Hmm... why don't they look to Sony or MS to sell some of these to?

n1kki6880d ago

So these studios aren't profitable for embracer, but you think Sony wants to use capital to purchase unprofitable studios? Buying IP sure, but buying unprofitable studios?

TheCaptainKuchiki880d ago

It's not that they're unprofitable.
It's that Embarcer burned through cash too fast to expand. Now they have to reduce the size because their earnings are below what they spend to acquire studios (and pay all those people).

Obscure_Observer880d ago

"Buying IP sure, but buying unprofitable studios?"

Sony has been buying a lot of small/unknown studios that many would call, "unprofitable".

Heck, I remember the time some users on N4G used to mock MS for acquiring Obsidian , by calling it a "near bankrupt" studio.

All it takes is to either Sony or MS to see the potential of those Embracer´s studios to warrant an acquisition.

n1kki6880d ago

You don't close your profitable investments because you are cash poor. That is a quicker way to go under. To the point of Sony or MS buying unprofitable Studios, it's because IP came with it they thought could be valuable.

Time to Embrace the consequences of gobbling up more studios than you can handle.

blackblades881d ago

That's how imagine MS gobbling everything up along with GP.

wiz7191880d ago

@blackblades that’s why those companies still operate independently , they handle their own issues .. MS is just cutting the checks now

raWfodog880d ago (Edited 880d ago )

@wiz
Not sure how ‘independent’ you think those companies are but you’re mistaken if you think MS gives them free rein to just do anything they want. They definitely operate under MS (or Sony’s) guidelines. Only truly independent companies like Larian have that luxury of true freedom.

wiz7191880d ago

@Rawfodog I’m going to assume ppl don’t know what the term operate independently means. Do yourself a favor and google it , I never said they can do what ever they want or even alluded to that .. MS doesn’t directly manage any studios under Zenimax and the same will be true with Activision Blizzard , they operate as a separate business ..

@Jin_Sakai

"Time to Embrace the consequences of gobbling up more studios than you can handle."

Didn´t Sony shut down PlayStation Studio PixelOpus along with it´s new unannounced AAA game in development, just a few months ago at the same time they were celebrating world breaking numbers for Playstation?

I think the decisions on shut down studios are very difficult ones for everyone involved and way more complex than most pretend to comprehend, before start and make judgments.

Today is Embracer, tomorrow might be MS, Sony, EA and even Nintendo. We can only hope for the best.

@Obscure_Observer

As Sciurus said below.

“Embracer has over 125 studios and over 15,000 employees. The company has more studios than Sony, MS and Nintendo put together, yet it never once generated enough revenue to crack the top game companies in terms of revenue”

Big difference.

Company of Embracer’s size isn’t sustainable, especially when it’s out performed by much smaller companies (EA, Take-Two, Ubisoft and Bandai-Namco.

Well these companies are going indie and new names lol.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty6h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan9h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher6h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty6h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies1226m ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.
