Well that's obvious, just like how MS won't disclose future consoles to Bungie either.

Sonyslave3940d ago

This sheet make no sense like don’t Sony give Ms info on their systems and other stuff for Minecraft & Zenimax 🧐 What make Activison different.

So Sony can’t get mad at Activison for Ps6 games not being ready and up to parity with XB 4 and need huge day patches.

darthv72940d ago

...you mean XB5. We are already on their 4th.

Sephiroushin940d ago (Edited 940d ago )

they probably do not disclose important information with those companies either... when sony developed the ps4 and ps5 they asked publishers and devs about many things and let them help with the developing of those consoles, controllers etc so they had a better platform and a easier way to work and understand the console, guess activision is out of the picture for that, they will probably provide enough information for them to make the game but most likely wont give them full details about their console and its features, they will get the developer kits when they are on stone and i mean when there is no way for sony to really change stuff around the system, btw MS probably do the same its business after all

LordoftheCritics940d ago (Edited 940d ago )

Even if MS buys Activision MS will lose in the end and gamers will have lost the most.

A company operating on profits over values forgets that values make a good game.

Good Luck gamers, we gonna need it.

Godmars290940d ago

@Sonyslave3:
More like MS could have access to detailed specs on the PS6.

darksky940d ago

It's to do with consoles in development. If Sony gave performance specs of the PS6 to Activision then MS would know what they are up against and improve the next Xbox specs to handily beat it.

GamingSinceForever940d ago

I believe he means during the R&D phase. If Activision like Bungie claims to remain multi-plat then Sony won’t disclose their secs and dev kits early on.

DeadlyFire939d ago

Minecraft still doesn't have a ps5 version. Legends does but its how many years later.
Zenimax already had all their projects going before buyout. I highly doubt we see any new ps5 or ps6 titles from them.

yeah the new xbox will be XB5 I know the naming has been confusing though. Xbox-Xbox 360-XB 1- Xbox Series X/S next one is 5th. idk what name scheme they will have yet though.

Abear21939d ago

1st party gets the dev kits first, then third party after. Activision prolly got it first bc COD is such an important game to get right. Hopefully this clears the runway for Killzone.

AirRevenant938d ago

CoD can't run properly on PC in my experience. Advanced Warfare had so many problems you can't play the campaign due to crashes in cinematics that are hard progression stoppers.

If they can't manage to progress on microsoft platforms, how could Sony ever be the excuse?

Magog940d ago

And gamers lose with games that are unoptimized for next Gen.

Markdn940d ago

Correct Sony said they can continue to develop on all consoles as long as they defo on ps. That's the way to do it. Think only thing Sony gets from bungie is maybe exclusive content.

Godmars290940d ago

Thing is MS would gain any most recent info shared with Activision almost immediately upon the sale going through. If Its not already being leaked already considering how chummy they've become.

DarXyde940d ago

Didn't Microsoft disclose info for MLB The Show?

Redemption-64939d ago

If memory serves me right, the 1st MLB game to come to Xbox was 21 and the new systems were already out by then

DarXyde939d ago

Redemption -64,

Ah. Yeah, that makes sense. That was an honest question. My thinking was whether they knew in advance because of the development cycles and such.

Knightofelemia939d ago (Edited 939d ago )

There is a big difference between Bungie and Activision. Activision is a bigger company with many games under their belt by other studios they own. And Activision dates back to the Atari days Bungie has been around since 1991. Bungie is a small developer with a few games under their belt and most of their stuff now is PvP. There is nothing to compare there. Activision's purchase by Microsoft creates waves Sony buying up Bungie is like a little rain drop. I don't think Microsoft is going to shiver in their boots over Bungie. Microsoft got what they wanted from Bungie and that's Master Chief.

Extermin8or3_939d ago

Correct although bungie is one studio people seem to forget activision is like a network of ehat 19 console development studios?

Rude-ro939d ago

😂 when people do not realize there is absolutely no secrets or magic with Microsoft consoles.

This “us or them” strategy reminds me of Sony’s tactics towards many third parties during the PS1 era

Christopher940d ago

As opposed to the "us or them" strategy of buying out major publishers?

Prime157940d ago

@ANGAINORG7X

What? A monopoly is a monopoly. You can't put lipstick on a pig.

When is enough enough for you people? Pick up a history book and see the trends happening all over again...

got_dam940d ago

@prime157 you can absolutely put lipstick on a pig. Hell, We put eyebrows on the dog once. I suggest you try it. The expressions become more human and absolutely hilarious.

King_Noctis940d ago

Sony buying 11 studios recently isn’t an “us or them” strategy too?

Christopher939d ago

***Sony buying 11 studios recently isn’t an “us or them” strategy too?***

No, it's not. But I'm not the one that tried to make only one side about "us or them" am I?

Also, do we really want to compare every single Sony purchase to the single value and breadth of ABK? Because there is nothing like it, adding up all Sony studio purchases.

mandf940d ago

It was about cds vs cartridges. Pure money. Sony only provided the tech. The industry decided nothing underhanded

Prime157940d ago

You really can't compare Sony 's market share and purchasing power to Microsoft's.

$7.5 billion for Bethesda
$10 billion for discord stopped only because Sony became minority holder
$70 billion for Activision.

This is how monopolies start, and this is VERY bad for gamers.

dumahim940d ago

The continued narrative about buying ABK is the same as buying a smaller dev is just getting sad at this point. It's like saying buying up a beer-league softball team is the same as buying the entire MLB.

shinoff2183940d ago (Edited 940d ago )

Prime your absolutely right. Look at their past in the pc market. As a consumer how can you condone this. O cause you'll get cod rented to you for free

amazinglover933d ago

This isn't true Discord reached out to several companies, and MS offered $12 billion.

Discord ultimately decided against it and will go public instead as they are valued at $15 billion.

Discord rejected the offer it had nothing to do with Sony.

PhoenixUp940d ago

@ Chris

I’m meant the attitude of how Sony quietly applied pressure on developers and forced them to choose: “You can make games for Sega, or you make them for us. Not both.”

Obviously the circumstances are different, but the mindset remains similar

@ man

I’m talking about Sony vs Sega in that era, who both went towards discs.

@ Prime

I understand Sony’s mindset, just saying this isn’t the first time they’ve behaved like this towards a third party

I’m no way saying Sony isn’t justified in this particular situation

CBaoth939d ago

well maybe if Sega hadn't shot themselves in the foot, companies would have had the confidence to release wares for their machine. They canned the Genesis early in the States when it was outselling the SNES. They tried to get their customer base to buy an add-on as the next big thing instead of a hardware refresh. Then they shadowdrop new hardware at an E3 event. Sega killed themselves long before Sony entered the scene. I loved the Dreamcast but stop with the revisionist history. It sold 11 million units, 3 less than the WiiU. Let that sink in.

As far as this topic is concerned it's a non-issue and completely stupid to write an article about it. If the merger goes through ABK becomes essentially MS 1st party. So why would Activision receive dev docs from Sony on PS6?

darthv72939d ago

@CB... sega did not can the genesis early. It had 6+ years on the market, which was loger than the average of 5. And they even tried to keep it going with the likes of the addons you allude to. Sega was doing fine until Sony started wooing devs to cut off support for saturn. Tomb raider 2 and res evil 2 were both being worked on for saturn and ps1 when sony convinced the devs to drop saturn and focus attention on ps1. And Dreamcast also only sold 9m+, not 11m. I think it is you who are revising history.

CBaoth939d ago

darth - thanks for furthering my point. It sold 9 million, the same as the Saturn. Funny how you glossed over that system's failure as Sony pressuring developers to stop developing for it. Pretty sure it's selling 9 MILLION CONSOLES a fucking gen will do that to ya. Due to the haphazard design and shadow launch of the Saturn it failed miserably outside Japan, selling 4 million globally. Retailers and developers were caught off guard. So they took their time next round. But the Dreamcast was one of the most expensive consoles to manufacture at the time, causing Sega to sell it at loss a la PS3. When you sell 90 million units, you can recover losses via software sales and royalties. When you sell 9 million units back to back gens, you end up 3rd party.

sinspirit938d ago

@CBaoth

I'm not totally knowledgeable about that era of gaming.. But, this topic sounds like the next fairy tale to go around this site to spread FUD about Sony again. Did anyone else per chance read when people kept trying to claim Sony performed terrible monopolistic practices to keep MS out of Japan? This was stated numerous times and I did my research. Turns out Sony did absolutely... nothing to keep MS out of Japan. They simply saw that the market never budged in Microsoft's favor so they didn't do a single thing to stop them.

The only monopolistic practice that either of them did was Microsoft bought multiple major AAA Japanese titles to be exclusive to 360 and tried to push PlayStation out of the advertisement space in Japan. You know what sucks? This generation is what basically killed the major JRPG market because they were exclusive to one console and all we got was a not so good Final Fantasy series during this time. No dev wanted to put the money up for a major JRPG again because of the fanbase dying out. Look at how many major JRPG's actually exist since then. A monopoly tactic is one that deliberately hurts others to boost yourself up. Using heavy handed techniques to directly harm the competition to get an edge. A monopolistic tactic isn't just being the biggest in the market and still making purchases. That's not how it works. Good work gets good results. Sony earned their position. Just because MS is last doesn't mean they aren't doing monopoly tactics. They've done the most by far. So funny that Microsoft just goes around tossing money at all sorts of things. They've bought up how many services, started their own services that they just can't manage right, used heavy handed techniques like they did with Mixer to take talent away from other platforms, and even tried to make a purchase of Discord for no beneficial reason other than to own it and likely fuse it with XBox. Thank you Sony for buying a minority stake in Discord to keep it the same as it has been.

And nintendos early third party strategies. Nothing in gaming has changed since damn near day one. Learn up

You made a game for Nintendo I was only to be on Nintendo. No where else

gold_drake939d ago

really?
did you read any reports or data leaks during that time?

im sure the mid 90s and early 2000s had massive amounts of magazines talking about it in detail. lol.

DigitallyAfflicted939d ago (Edited 939d ago )

In the ps1 era Sony was nobody in the gaming industry, competing with giants like sega and Nintendo plus PC gaming at it's most popular

Neonridr940d ago

lol, this totally doesn't sound like a jilted ex.

-Foxtrot940d ago

Not really

They'd be part of Microsoft, you give Activision the full low down on the PS6 and Microsoft will use that to counter them. Specs, price point, how many launch games, any cool new features like the Dual Sense and so on

It's literally playing it smart.

Neonridr940d ago

I'm joking my man. You don't think MS didn't know what Sony was working on with the PS4 and PS5 and they just magically came out with near identical specs CPU / GPU wise? MS would have ways of figuring it out for the most part, without the need of Activision.

dumahim940d ago

Makes me wonder how that will work out with MLB The Show if that arrangement is still like it is when the next gen comes around.

KingKionic 940d ago

Yes Jimbo thats....how that works. Bizarre statement. I guess this is the death throes before Microsoft snags the W is like.

Christopher940d ago

Gets asked a question, Kionic takes time to ridicule him for answering the question. Would you praise him if he refused to answer?

KingKionic 940d ago

Lol i just thought it was super weird and hilarious. The interviewer brains are on Patrón.

940d ago
RauLeCreuset940d ago

"Bizarre statement."
"The interviewer brains are on Patrón."

What makes you say that?

KingKionic 940d ago

He asked a question that was rhetorical. This common sense if Xbox has Activision under there belt why would Sony tell Microsoft about there console?

Lol the interviewer is suppose to be great at phrasing questions.

RauLeCreuset940d ago

@KingKionic

The "lawyer."

This was a deposition.

The lawyer asked a question that was in no way rhetorical. The point was to get Jim Ryan's answer for the record. They are making the case that there would not need to be an intention to sabotage CoD on PS for next-gen PS consoles to get an inferior product, than they would have sans merger, because Activision being acquired by a rival would practically prohibit PS from sharing sensitive information and access to aid in development.

Cockney939d ago

@kingkionic its an interview, none of the questions are rhetorical.

XiNatsuDragnel940d ago

Honestly Sony has the right too tbh.
