Goodwill? nah, it's called trillions$$$

For me gamepass is the only reason why i own an XSX. In the past i usually buy all consoles as i like to think of myself as a well rounded gamer but this generation i was heavily considering go with just PS5 and Switch and now the Steam Deck.

But since i can get gamepass for cheap with all the 1 euro offers that MS peddles out and with MS rewards i don't ever actually pay for the service full price. I ended up buying myself a XSX though i do still buy most of my 3rd party games on PS5 i use gamepass to play MS exclusive games and for cheap. So i save money via gamepass (thanks MS) and spend it on 3rd party and Sony's Exclusives.

Overall MS has a lot of goodwill with me for gamepass.

Not long. Series X & S have been available for BELOW RRP in England. On and off deals.

They simply can't sell them... Ps rules here,. Africa. Whole euro-asian segment. All of Scandinavia, etc. Just USA where Xbox sells, and even there Ps equals their sales in their own back yard. Obviously Japan is a small tiny country and sells ps in tens of thousands while Xbox in hundreds. If at all. Sometimes not countable.

MS unfortunately has the tendency to overpromise and underdeliver
For example, hyping that you can play all major Xbox games on Day 1 on Game Pass but failing to release a game that feels like a major release.
Also, I feel that MS is always failing to capitalising on what the player can buy or play at the moment.
Here's a prime example of MS vs Playstation with handling a 3rd party game
We all have seen the Calisto Protocol ads for PS5 and they have it treated it like it's a massive AAA PlayStation game
on other hand Microsoft managed to release the great PLague Tales Requiem on Gamepass Day1 but to basically no fanfare.
1 average AA game now feels like a major AAA Playstation 5 title while 1 of the best games graphical game of 2023 has barely been noticed.

MS should simply focus on putting the spotlight a bit more on what they are releasing (cue Hi-Fi Rush) instead of flashing tons of game that feels like you experienced nothing.

As long as it takes. Microsoft has poured billions into staying alive for the gaming industry. If they ever start to falter, expect them to buy more studios and franchises.

If Xbox had no games for 9 years and Sony had great games for 9 years....then in final 10th year Xbox had great games and Sony didn't, Xbox fans take that as a win that they have the better deal

The bar on Xbox is so and so low, after many years without decent games, that when users get a decent game (hi fi rush), they get crazy and believes that Xbox is suddenly the king of the world!!!

Let’s be honest, I have loathed my Xbox since Halo dried up, but Hi-Fi Rush absolutely bought Xbox more good will than it probably deserves.

One thing we hear over and over again is: reveals and showcases take a ton of resources away from actual development, and they’d rather not do it. They’d rather we’d be patient and trust them to deliver.

Sony has garnered plenty of goodwill over the past few gens by consistently delivering AAA console sellers…. Maybe their lack of showcasing for SM2 and Factions is just them flexing their earned goodwill.

The ps5 in more ways than one is designed to make game development easier for devs (see Cerny’s ps5 breakdown and his focus on “triangle time”). For example, a key reason the SSD is twice the speed of the XsX’s (and the most expensive part of the machine, a first for a console) is to make rendering easier and consequently streamline development.

So, Sony’s reluctance to showcase might be part over their overall strategy for maximizing pace of development this generation.

Either way, I still trust Sony more than Xbox to deliver this gen as a whole, even if 2023 is by and large just a year that Sony fans *only* get Spider-Man 2…. Color us bored, right? /s

(any Xbox owner would have to admit that if Spider-Man 2 is a light year, then how would you describe Xbox since Halo and Gears dried up?)

Basically since halfway through 360 days. Quite a while. Know people are forgetting they just bought out studios to keep games away from the competitors. i like to be consistent... If timed exclusivity is crap this is much worse

I absolutely loved xbox around the 360 era. Tons of games, loads of new ip's, Xbox live was blowing up.
Hated xone and everything it stood for, absolute stain on ms record.
Xsx as a console is incredible but they lack first party reasons to even own the system and its mind boggling.
Theres currently not one single exclusive to xsx/xss.
I'm personally tired of waiting.
If it wasn't for their dedication to backwards compatibility and them now owning Bethesda, id stick with gaming on my ps5.

What 'goodwill' exactly? What has Microsoft even done to garner goodwill since 2013? Its been 10 whole years of mistakes, lies, scams, rushed unpolished releases, broken promises, scummy business practices, and attempting to buy their way to success.

Judging by the drop in sales not very long. They need all these titles they have been talking about for 4 years now to come out in 2023. Anything less than 5-6 quality 1st party exclusives is a failure in my eyes.

I tried Hi-Fi Rush on GamePass PC last night.

It's cute for 5 minutes but not something I felt the need to invest time in.

Seriously. These games better be good. I love my XBSX and game on all systems when I can. Just stay consistent with good releases and you'll be fine.

After a few generations, it's best to keep expectations for Xbox non-existent.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
