"Using the full potential of Meta Quest device resources helps ensure the highest quality content..."

I have a Quest 2, and I enjoy it, but I have no disillusions that it is the "highest quality content". For that, I hook it up to Steam. That was the biggest selling points for me, access to the "highest quality content" for a lower price. We won't be running Half Life Alyx natively on a Quest 2, but still glad I experienced it on the headset.

ZycoFox1238d ago

True this will make little difference to the headset as standalone, but I imagine those that care about performance will either be linking up to their PC with cable or via wifi

So this is only for developers taking advantage of it going forward, only? Patches too I guess. Wonder if there'll be some sort of boost (mode) for older games.

IanTH1237d ago (Edited 1237d ago )

It's just going out to devs first, it'll go out to everyone though.

"a 7% increase in GPU clocks will provide a better experience for both you and your app’s community"

Eidolon1237d ago (Edited 1237d ago )

Yeah. Well it has to be developed around the boost is what I was saying. Assuming they aren't lifting the clocks for the system so all games you have will have less performance dips, unpatched.

deleted1236d ago

Yea, it's so easy to switch to Dev mode though, and actually necessary to run Sidequest. I wonder if any games run on a scalable engine that may benefit right away without having to have a proper patch.

IanTH1237d ago

Also, regarding the "boost mode for older games"....essentially, depending on how the app is built. Kind of like how PS4 games that had dynamic resolution scaling or uncapped framerates benefitted from the PS5. The article says:

"No integration or coding is needed to start reaping the benefits of this improvement—the dynamic clocking system will automatically increase the frequency as it detects that your app would benefit from it"

and

"The increase in GPU power will also automatically integrate with dynamic foveation if you have enabled it in your app. Upon an increase in compute needs, the GPU will maintain higher visual quality as long as possible by increasing from 490 MHz to 525 MHz first, instead of increasing foveation. "

Eidolon1237d ago (Edited 1237d ago )

Games that had frame dips under cap benefitted slightly from the PS4 pro boost too. 7 percent is pretty big for 90hz/fps.. depending if it's CPU or GPU bottlenecked.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing14d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit14d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing14d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
