The comments on that website are laughable..
Ya know it's sad that those packs were taken down and people were punished, but it is clear you can not modify a game unless you have permission for it.

What do those people expect? Obviously Nintendo will take something like that down.

Like if these packs can not be spread trough Torrents or whatever.
Lol, people suddenly boycott Nintendo because they have the rights to protect their stuff. But they won't boycott them for different reasons.

But then again, it's all sad indeed.

FantasyStar6350d ago (Edited 6350d ago )

Legally, you're correct and Nintendo has every reason to shut-down the modders, but beyond the legal bounds: Nintendo is only setting themselves up with bad PR.

Do you remember the public backlash when Microsoft shut down the modders that were developing a Halo RTS mod, just so Microsoft themselves could release their own Halo RTS? Also, do you remember when Epic Games sent their lawyers in on a random fan that just happened to create a one-of-a-kind Marcus Fenix Munny toy to give to his cousin as a Christmas gift?

http://www.xbox-scene.com/x...

Legally, all the companies I just listed are well within their legal powers to protect their IPs, but man oh man, do they look like douches and scumbags to the VG Community. Nintendo pisses off their die-hard fans for considered "retarded and overall stupid" just to save all the money that they can get. It's how the article sums it up.

"Nintendo, if you’re reading this, what do you have to gain by putting a few fan-artists in jail? I know you need money but this is ridiculous. Going after the Homebrew Channel? Nope, gotta sue the fanartists. Going after GCTracker and all the other piracy sites? Nope, sue the fanartists! Instead of taking it out on your fans, the people that like you, want to pay tribute to you, take it out on the enablers of piracy. Syntax-Error wasn’t even going to distribute an ISO. It was a patch that would be worthless without an ISO. They had long, winding legal agreements. They had all the attempts they can to remove anything illegal or promoting piracy. I don’t believe your legal department, with your infinite cashwads, could turn such a blind eye to all the pirates yet sue the people who are actually trying to make sure they don’t do anything illegal. That makes no sense. But, since you’re a huge multi-national corporation, I think you’ll enjoy ignoring this while you take it out on the little guy. G’night!"

Voiceofreason6350d ago

They didnt put anyone in jail... You need to calm down and give them the same repsect you would if it were Sony. Who by the way did some similar things with LBP and a contest they ran. Took all the credit for others peoples work because they owned the game. Companies have the right to protect their games as they see fit. All they did was have them remove something they never should have had in the first place... Also there is nothing wrong with MS stopping people from making any type of Halo game. I have a feeling that if it were a Sony property being stolen you wouldnt be upset, I notice that not one time did you call them out for their part in protecting their properties..

ChickeyCantor6350d ago (Edited 6350d ago )

I know it's bad PR, but people shouldn't really expect something different...its bizz.

Like Corrupt said in the forums, Sony closing down lik sang was worse.

Jecht6350d ago

The two are COMPLETELY different. When you entered the LBP contest, you agreed to the Terms and Conditions of the contest. One of which states that all submissions become the property of Sony, and they are legally entitled to use said submissions however they wish.

These guys ILLEGALLY hack games. BIG difference.

Voiceofreason6350d ago

You can say it is different all day long. Doesnt change the fact that Sony protected their IP and Nintendo is doing the same... I wasnt saying Sony did anything wrong.. I was just pointing out that they ALL protect their IP's as they should and are allowed to do.

steveg25646350d ago

I think we all know why you're not in charge of a large corporation.

Jecht6349d ago (Edited 6349d ago )

How is it that Sony is protecting their IP from themselves?

Let me make it clear for you.

LittleBigPlanet: The contest in question saw users WILLINGLY submitting content for a contest THEY KNEW was going to become the property of Sony. They understood that Sony could, at ANY time, use said content and DID NOT have to reimburse them because the submitter is taking a gamble at winning a contest in which they really don't lose anything and can potentially gain a small measure of fame. So, we can clearly see that NO ONE is TAKING ANYTHING from Sony or MM without their legal consent, hence no protection of anything on their part is needed.

Nintendo Game Hacks: Users are WILLINGLY performing an ILLEGAL hack of game code, which is EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN under ALL Terms of Use documents, using Intellectual Property developed by paid Nintendo staff and not providing compensation for use of said code. It is a form of theft. So, protection, in this instance, is justified.

Sony = Nothing taken, or used without permission.

Nintendo Game Hackers = Code modified and used without permission.

Do you see the difference now or do I need to explain it again?

AHHH!!! I love Sony, but I had forgotten about Lik Sang. That was an amazing site. I think I'm going to stew for awhile now trying resolve this mental conflict.

Where are the grammar police when you need them?

It is funny how I can Mod my car, but I can't Mod my game?

Intellectual rights are the biggest scam going, and Nintendo is just one part of the big scam.

ChickeyCantor6350d ago

When you buy a console/games there comes this "readme" thingy with it.
That's the contract that comes with the purchase.
A car is entirely different from software>_>

Product6350d ago

Actually you cant mod your car .......it voids the warranty.Meaning no more support from the maker who made the car.Although you can mod a car without punishment beyond the warranty because after the purchase thats the only thing a car company has control of.

steveg25646350d ago

It's a good thing for you Nintendo isn't making cars, eh? Thankfully you still have the inalienable right to mod your car. Or is that why the big 3 are in trouble? Hmmm. Maybe Nintendo is doing the right thing.

"THERE SITE".

Thanks for the news.

Edit: Now that you've corrected your post, you make mine look silly.

Why the Wii is Such a Nostalgic System in 2026

The Wii is now a retro console. Let’s get nostalgic about an often maligned system.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg19d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree19d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai19d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

To me smash brows Melee is my all time favorite. I can't tell you how many hours I played that game between friends and family. When I was a kid, my parents couldn't afford a gaming console so I had to go somewhere that had an arcade like setup with the only difference being instead of arcade cabinets, they had big screen crt TV's and gaming consoles setup. I would go with my friends on special occasions after school or with my family on the weekends.

I would meet and make new friends at that place as we were all gamers and we also brought our game boys and would trade pokemon. I don't think those places exist these days but back then, it was easy to meet like-minded people and have fun for hours.

franwex456d ago

Well, I’ll add my extremely subjective ranking too. I won’t include the 3DS version as I don’t owned it. I did play it for a few minutes though.

5. Brawl.
4. N64 Smash
3. Ultimate
2. Wiiu Smash
1. Melee

BlaqMagiq1456d ago

Yup Ultimate for me BY FAR is my favorite.
