Bullshit. Switching engines is VERY expensive and no serious studio will do it.
Upon switching, your advanced knowledge of one engine becomes a beginner level in the other, low intermediate at best. Now multiply it over a team. And also consider that most SDKs are only compatible with these or those game engines (mostly Unity tbh).

Again, not a single serious studio will do it.

It’s not unheard of, and learning new things isn’t always that steep of a curve. Studios switch engines already sometimes anyway, for all sorts of reasons.

Palitera1419d ago

Studios shift engines for reasonable reasons, like:
1. A specific partner tech or channel demands specifics engines
2. The current engine is not a good option for the next game(s)
3. Investment from new engines (Unreal, for instance, is making a big push)

So money and business, basically, not Twitter rage.

The CEO is John Riccitiello, you know the one who thinks your a dumbass for not adding in micro transactions. Nuff said.

Palitera1419d ago

"Micro transactions" is different than "implement monetisation earlier in the (development) process".

I don’t doubt some may try - and a few succeed in jumping ship - but what’s the alternative for decent 3D dev tools. UE, partially owned by the CCP? It’s making a living under the creeptacular rule of EA’s ex-COO who ruined their reputation now at Unity’s helm, or Tim Swiney - take your pick. The others like CryEngine, or ID Tech, are seemingly out of reach for most devs since they aren’t often used in any mainstream sense. Anyone developing something not 3D focused may well switch, since there are lots of good alternatives in the 2D realm.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit34d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing34d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9234d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
