Elden Ring review - ChristCenteredGamer

CCG writes - "It’s fair to say that Elden Ring has changed the rules of what an open world game can be. Favoring exploration to tedious quest logs, the player is free (and fully expected) to roam the different areas of the game in search of unique landmarks. This landmark may be a long-fallen city, a small settlement, a cave, or something more impressive such as a stronghold or castle. Exploring these areas will always be rewarding, and will generally grant treasure in the form of a new weapon, armor, or spell."

I have about 110 hrs in so far. I would give it an 85 so far into my playthrough and still GOTY easily. My only complaint is the bosses after Morgott, the Omen King. The captain Niall fight in particular. It's running in a circle to take out his summons one hit at a time. Then baiting Niall's lightning leg so you can hit him once or twice if you are lucky. I hate to say it, but this isn't fun.

Point is you have the option to load out your character however you want for the boss fights. You can literally walk into any boss fight and gank them with ease if you prep your character out prior to the fight. If my 10 year old has already beaten every boss with relative ease and playing in NG+ levels now then I am not imagining the bosses are really that difficult.

I am not saying they are hard. I am saying they are not fun to play, because the attack windows are smaller than any other souls game. Even Orphan of Kos has bigger attack windows.

[edit: I edited the rest. ]

I’ve been stuck on the last boss for about 5 hours. The bad part is that I cannot make it to the 2nd phase consistently.

anast1326d ago

This is what was foreshadowed during the fire giant boss fight. The windows are getting super small and the damage the bosses deal is off the charts. Since they nerfed mimic tear (easy mode), really it is all down to skill, memorization, a bit of luck, and don't miss the one opening you get after the 14 combos the bosses throw at you.

GamingSinceForever1326d ago

I also think that the camera angles make things harder than they should be. The final bosses jump in the air so fast and by the time you get a view of them it’s too
late. 😡

I've not got that far, but are you still able to go explore the rest of the map? Might be worth just levelling up and trying different weapons. Also heard the Black Knife Tiche from Liurnia is the best summon in the game.

GamingSinceForever1325d ago

You are free to do whatever in the game. I’m not sure your level matters because the last few bosses hit hard as hell. I finally finished the game last night. Level 162 and 207 hours played.

No I am not doing an additional play through. F that game. 😂 😂

Haha, well done on completing it. I'm about 55 hours in and level 85ish i think. Only just gone onto the Altus Plateau, so maybe half way through? Probably my favourite game ever based on my time with it so far, love it.

That Tiche fight is insanely hard for me. So, I decided to go at the game using nerfed mimic tear (or not) to help with the second phase of some of the boss fights depending on my mood. The last bosses can clear you out even with high vigor. I've heard people getting 2 shot'd with a vigor of 60.

I beat the Fire Giant with a longsword quality build RL80 ish and confessor armour. I was thinking a cool, I get to use my favorite low fantasy build, but I was wrong. The Twin Godskin fight obliterated my character. Yes, I know that people can finish the whole game at RL1, but they are the exception. So, I leveled to RL 100 respec'd leaving only 45 vigor and putting the rest into a dex-bleed build (Curved Scavenger sword main and katana secondary for length), wolf armour because I like the way it looks, and a nerfed mimic tear, and this is the build I have been using for the last 10 hrs or so.

The jump from the Fire Giant to Twin Godskins was crazy. I will probably go back to memorize the attack windows, but at that point they were so small, it got a bit annoying. I had more fun being stuck on Orphan of Kos for 5 days or Dancer for 2 days.

I am not worried from the start. XD

Neonridr45d ago

definitely looks like it's running more stable now. Here's hoping the delay isn't too much longer for those who want to play it.

By the way, Isn't it amazing that the person playing in the video is an expert Elden Ring player? XD

What a name for a title with bad performance right now. Yup Tarnished Edition is about right. They made the right choice to delay this game.
