0.2 won't make any difference. Should have given a 10.

Lol any other game that runs as poorly as Elden Ring would never get scores like this.

Crows901420d ago

But are those games AS good?

JEECE1420d ago

Perhaps not in certain aspects. But running at a reasonably stable framerate is an expected part of a AAA game release at this point. Just because your world/lore/combat etc are good does not excuse your game from meeting basic performance standards.

A lot of games with stable frame rates that get auto 10'd and still suck. You don't make any sense. It's reductionary. Provide more information or not. It's not up to me I suppose.

JEECE1420d ago

Your point doesn't make any sense. You are refuting an argument I did not make. I never said a game that has a stable framerate should automatically get a 10. I only said that a game with a janky framerate like Elden Ring should not get such high scores.

Honestly it's really telling about Fromsoft's fans that they prefer to ignore the flaws in Fromsoft's games and get mad at the people who point them out rather than expecting a stable release.

I see I miss read. Thank you.

Like Horizon crashing and clipping characters?

JEECE1420d ago

Yeah, a game with a much lower metacritic score and far more people giving it middling reviews. And an occasional character model glitch is undesirable, but much less disruptive to gameplay than a constantly janky framerate. Especially since Horizon is not really a game that depends on precise timing like Elden Ring (at least the first one wasn't, I haven't played the new one).

Crows901420d ago

It boils down to this. A game has one chance to get scores out there. Just 1. If we were to heavily punish games that are perfectly playable but have some issues then they would never recover from that score even after the game is fixed.

This isnt something new either. Games have had issues since the dawn of gaming. I'd say unless the game is unplayable due to the technical issues then the score shouldn't be touched.

I would much rather reviewers focus on scoring the game and what is instead of saying it sucks because of bugs. I'm interested in the gameplay and story. We all know many of the technical issues get fixed so it makes no sense to kill a games score because of it.

Playing on PS5.
A 97 on metacritic (universally acclaimed) tells me the game is near perfect.

Great, then, when I start said game & I get frame-rate issues it affects gameplay. Especially in a game like Elden Ring.
When an enemy magically hits me twice without ever moving a muscle (animation doesn’t start), albeit impressive, gameplay once again is affected.
When a game crashes, the whole experience is affected.

When all that happens then said game is not deserving of a near perfect score, unless I’m lying to myself & others, then that’s another story.

It’s a great game, but I have an issue with the industry reviewers considering it a masterpiece (a word I don’t use/take lightly) when clearly (to me) it cannot be due to the issues that are clearly there. If we lower the standard of a masterpiece then we end up just throwing words around.

@hatchetforce

You know damn well I'm not taking about a .5 difference or some crap like that.

Also never said a 9.5 isn't a great score. But to your point...how is a .5 decrease going to really affect the messaging? They'll still get away with it.

I don't care what other people said on here. But you say the score unjustified...so tell us why you're right and they're wrong. Tell me what's wrong with the game without mentioning technical issues that will be fixed.

The only Souls game that has run pretty much perfectly since launch was SotFS, and even then the 60fps broke the weapon durability lol, since it was tied to the animation frames. Despite performance, every game they've released since Dark Souls are all considered some of the greatest ever made, so they're still doing something right I suppose.
People have been complaining about their optimization since WAY before Demon's Souls.
I dunno. The only AAA games I've played without glaring performace issues, since this gen launched over a year ago on console, have been exclusives. Either developers across the entire industry aren't delivering, or we're expecting too much out of the hardware we've got.

outsider16241419d ago

I heard about its performance. Is it that bad? How is it on PS5?
I envy the guys who love playing these type of games. These type of games are really not my type. I mean i never could get into Bloodborne..no matter how much i tried.

Not even nearly perfect. This game is reviewed by hc souls fans. No any other person take the job in company which make the review. User score is less than FBW on google.

Pickledpepper1420d ago

I really enjoy the dark souls games but really not enjoying elder ring, been playing about 10hrs in and just find it boring, its not got the same lore and is more of a hack n slash.
This is just my opinion, but I don't class this as a souls game, I'd give it a 6/10.
Glad some people are enjoying it

By the way, Isn't it amazing that the person playing in the video is an expert Elden Ring player? XD

What a name for a title with bad performance right now. Yup Tarnished Edition is about right. They made the right choice to delay this game.
