What benefit is there to announcing a game 4 or 5 years before you even get started on it vs. announcing a game that you're 5 to 3 months about to release?

Who comes up with these headlines?

I understand anticipation and all that but come on....there's other games releasing sooner.

I've heard of this game once for like ten seconds. Such a roller coaster ride ! Lol

Elden Ring, Metroid Prime 4 and a Bayonetta 3 were all announced without showing gameplay. None of previously mentioned titles have shown any gameplay since their respective reveals years ago.

Even though I love their previous works but after Cyberpunk 2077 I can’t overhype these games based on a developers past work without seeing a shred of realtime gameplay anymore.

QUIT ANNOUNCING GAMES SO EARLY!!!

The Elden Ring was announced b4 the new consoles were announced and the added work for so many ports along with the Trump-19 virus has caused a slow down in the process. I'd say a release no later than Spring 2022 so a year at most.

What roller-coaster? It was announced with a trailer and that's it. Not really a roller-coaster at all

they probably gearing up their efforts for current gen before they show some actual gameplay. im happy waiting as long as its needed

Last time was THQ and R.A. Salvatore and that game basically brought the studio to its knees and in the end had one of the most lackluster narratives I have ever sat through while constantly waiting for it to... get good. Maybe from software will start making story driven games. I am not going to hold my breath.
