That won't help them. Their business model, their lies and the obvious lag is horrible.

nyu12226d ago

The lag won't matter for some games.

It's the business model more than anything else, not to mention the data costs of streaming etc.

Smitty20202226d ago

I thought it already flopped tbh

DarXyde2226d ago

They're also competing with GeForce Now, and if developers stop getting greedy, Nvidia is set to annihilate them.

Spurg2227d ago

They need to contribute by giving use new games not host games that other people make. So far right now Stadia is a glorified streaming store and isn't offering anything that others aren't already.
I look forward to what stadia can create with their studios but I think they jumped the Gun and now everyone doesn't see the point of having stadia.

Guess that's the thing about someone like Google releasing a product, even if it's doing terrible, they can just bury their heads in the sand, pretend it's a huge success and keep pumping money into it.

Profchaos2227d ago

I guess the thing about cloud is they already had the compute.sitting their as they failed to capture mass adoption nwith Google cloud so stadia wasn't much of a loss for them since cloud is where they are writing off the loss

FinalFantasyFanatic2226d ago

They have killed some of their other projects off for less, which makes their plans to go ahead with a successor to Stadia even more perplexing.

I don't think this is the kind of problem that fixes itself by throwing more money at it.

rainslacker2226d ago (Edited 2226d ago )

I think there is too much potential in the cloud gaming market for them to give up when they have a chance to get in before it expands its market. If they back out, they're either stuck not being in the market, or paying a lot of money to buy another successful venture. The long term may be cheaper to just keep plugging away at it with what they have, because it's not like their servers arwnt already there anyways.

Itll probably take years without success before they'd actually drop it as cloud gaming isn't really a fly by night silicon valley trend that really has no market. Ita a venture with real substance. Even if we as gamers arent that keen on it, it will have a place in the market over the long term. It wont likely supplant traditional hardware as some posit, but like mobile, have its own customer base

Tross2227d ago

Because Gen 1 was such a success that it merits a Gen 2?

Ratchet752227d ago

Well Microsoft made the x360 after the first Xbox.

If you first fail to succeed, try again.

DerfDerf2227d ago

The original Xbox was an amazing console and definitely not a failure. It came out later than the compeition and was their first foray into console gaming. It has some incredible exclusive games though, not to mention it was essentially the Dreamcast 2.

AuraAbjure2227d ago

Do you enjoy online matchmaking? Thank the OG Xbox for pioneering that service with Halo 2. Trying to take a stab at the great box smh.

MadLad2226d ago

The first Xbox was a pretty damn good system, and did well enough to warrant another.

DJStotty2222d ago

@joejoejoe

I think this is what rockwhynot is getting at :-

"Matchmaking saw its next major evolution with the release of Halo 2 in 2004. The clan culture needed to support dedicated servers had not made the leap to consoles, and expecting players to self-host had proved limiting. Halo 2 resolved the issue by automating the self-hosting process with the twin concepts of playlists and parties,[1] a system which proved so successful that it quickly became the second industry standard for matchmaking."

Didn't know they had even started on Gen 1 yet. Is gen 1 even out of beta yet?

rainslacker2226d ago

So is this akin to Sony marketing the PS9 soon after the launch of the PS1?

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio29d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing29d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9229d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit29d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing29d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9229d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
