With the amount of monthly free games, game subscription services, and frequent discounts it’s nigh impossible to get through my huge backlog

First world problems to the max

UltraNova2265d ago

I've accepted the fact that I'll never get through my backlog...just play what you feel like playing.

rainslacker2265d ago (Edited 2265d ago )

Sometimes I wonder if I should cut back on buying games just to save money. I still collect games from last gen and before, but I couldn't bring myself to try too hard this gen. I have tons of current gen games in my backlog, and I do like supporting devs by buying the games I want to play, but part of me also thinks I should be more frugal about it.

As far as having too many....I do sometimes have a hard time deciding which game to play next. There are some I'll play right away, or very close to release. Others, I'm not as keen to jump in, so I may sit there and have my ADD make it hard for me to decide. Once i get going though, I'm usually good to go until I finish, or decide to move on.

saladthieves2265d ago

This is correct. I have over 300 games on Steam alone. I'd love to play all of them, but I know I will never have the time to play them all. I have accepted this.

I think it also has to do with the fact that we get older, have more responsibilities and priorities to deal with in life. I remember spending months trying to finish a game I'd normally beat in less than a week. One of my frustrations in life is how little 24 hours is in a given day.

Gaming1012264d ago

The key is only buying games when they're dirt ass cheap, never on new release. Buying on new release is a waste of money if you have a gaming backlog. It isn't like games have a shelf life where they are no longer playable, and with patches the general trend is that games get way better after release with bug fixes, balancing issues addressed, more content added etc, so you pay less for an ultimately better game than on release day.

The only exception to this is multiplayer games, where there are a million kids online who will have massive learning curve advantages over you. This just means you need to get good fast if you want to play online, otherwise you're mostly toast.

ifrit_caress2264d ago

I'm with you, UltraNova. With all my responsibilities I have with my job and family, I am only left with, at most, 10 hours a week for gaming. Nevertheless, I don't care how big my backlog gets, and it is still growing, I love playing games and I will never stop.

Army_of_Darkness2264d ago

Having too many games is the very least of my problems.

i have nearly 400 games on my backlog. i'm an idort so that's why there is so much. Most of those games are short but yeah.

iplay1up22266d ago

I just got a ps4 for Christmas. I have a ton of games I am playing. Uncharted 4 was great! I have also played through some shorter PS4 exclusives like Rush of Blood VR, Until Dawn, and some others. The main games I am playing are God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn. After those I still have a ton of games I haven't played yet.

UltraNova2265d ago

Bloodborne, Spiderman and Days Gone!

I have received $18756 last month by operating on-line from home. i'm a university student and simply doing this home job in my half time less than three to four hrs every day. this job is extremely simple to try to to and its regular earnings area unit nice. every one will currently get this job and begin creating cash on-line right away by simply follow details on this internet.........

I have over 700 games in my Steam account, I don't think that is too many.

I like to have the games there and ready to play when I feel like it. I wait for sales or bundles, buy my games and most will go untouched until I have the urge to play them. It's better than having the urge to play a game you don't have and then seeing that that game is selling at full price.

MeteorPanda2265d ago

problem there is that you're NEVER going to play these games. not even really helping devs as you're buying thm at such a discount. it's hoarding.

SegaGamer2265d ago

" not even really helping devs as you're buying thm at such a discount"

Well, I am, because if I didn't get them in sales or bundles, there could be chance I would never buy them at all. Some money is better than no money.

Also, you don't know that I will never play these games, at least they are there and ready to be played when I do feel like playing them.

Tech52265d ago

i still manage to dedicate time for some games. I'm even playing some games that are from the 16 bit and 32bit era so. some gamers also take their games with them wherever they go. whatever works in knocking out the backlog of games. so far i got 70% of my back log under wraps.

Tekken666342265d ago (Edited 2265d ago )

have a gaming buddy to join in or family or a spouse. games are meant to be shared. that should help with depleting a back log of games.

NotoriousWhiz2265d ago

I used to do that but I realized that I just end up with a bunch of games I won't play. So now I just wait until I'm ready to play a game before I purchase it. I buy more games at full price but fewer games overall and end up spending less overall.

SegaGamer2265d ago

I have slowed down a bit in recent times though. I tend to only buy games during big sales events now and only really buy bundles when they have a few games that really interest me.

ZeekQuattro2266d ago

I've come to grips with it once I realized I have a backlog of games that spans multiple console generations. Lol It's a lost cause. I at least go back and beat games more than I see too.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio28d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing28d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9228d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit28d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing28d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
