Silent Hill or Resident Evil?

Jacob St-Amour from Link-Cable writes: "There has been much debate in the gaming world as to which franchises are better than others. From the classic rivalries that have brought gaming where it is today to the newer series’ that are taking the world by storm, there have been countless conversations as to which video game series is better over their competitors. Today, we wanted to take a moment to look at two horrifying series that have competed against one another for the most terrifying game franchise of all time between the psychological thriller that is Silent Hill and the zombie shooter titles of Resident Evil and see which series is the best in the genre."

Silent Hill was the better horror series. I can't understand why it died and resident evil keeps going.

Gaming4Life19812270d ago

I like resident evil more but I also liked silent hill. I am never going to forget that time on silent hill 2 when you first encounter pyramid head and I fought him for like 4 hours non stop. I used everything I could and he would not die. I finally was out of everything and decided to just run around to think and my nightmare ended as that was all I had to do to defeat him lol. I was mad but all I could do was laugh. Good times

Horrible camera tons of glitches is the reason why I never picked it up RE had a better camera and less glitches than SH plus better design and game play

Smokehouse2270d ago

Growing up I was a SH dude. I didn’t play RE until 4 and that’s when I switched. SH didn’t evolve like RE did.

Vanfernal2269d ago

Not sure dropping all horror for action is "evolving".

Smokehouse2269d ago

I mean gameplay wise. If a new silent hill came out and felt like the RE2 remake then I would be a true believer. I’m not one of those people that thinks “shitty controls makes it more suspenseful”. It’s why I wasn’t a RE fan until 4. RE5 isn’t as bad as people say. RE6 is trash. RE7 was pretty good, amazing in VR. RE2R was amazing.

Silent hill 1,2,3,4 were great. Anything after that I didn’t care about.

Vanfernal2269d ago

Honestly the gameplay in SH was never tight. It was the story and atmosphere that made that series a true classic. But it went downhill after team Silent disbanded. That's what truly killed the series.

Smokehouse2269d ago

No It wasn’t anything great but it was appropriate for the time. It felt better than RE lol. Imo of course. What was the last game team silent made?

Vanfernal2269d ago

Team Silent made SH 1-4. From there the franchise was handed to western developers and they could never quite capture what made the series great. They couldn't recreate the psychological horror of the original games.

specialguest2270d ago

SH is a better horror game. There isn't jump scares or some menacing huge monster(though pyramid head is pretty menacing). It's the atmosphere, the uneasy and dreadful feeling you get knowing you're about to enter that hospital or elementary school and face the unknown. Even the human characters you encounter have a sense of something a little off about them. Then there are the cryptic messages you read that seems puzzling yet ominous

bangoskank2270d ago

I haven't played a good Silent Hill game in years. Konami can't manage that IP for s***. Capcom on the on the other hand has been amazing.

MadLad2270d ago

I feel like I'm the only one who thoroughly enjoyed Downpour.
Then again, I'm also in the boat of those who thought 4 was the best in the series.

Smokehouse2269d ago

I’m with you on 4. The creep factor was intense.

cammers19952268d ago

4 imo was the best. I adored everything about it. Downpour was horrible though.

Resident Evil easily it made the survival horror genre and while there has been some duds in the franchise its still going strong as opposed to being Pachinko.

At first I was like, No Code Veronica on the list!? But then I seen Mainline. The list checks out, but I would personally put 2 over 4.

KwietStorm_BLM87d ago

I'll take 2 over 4 also. And even without a number, I don't see how Code Veronica, my other favorite in the franchise, isn't mainline when it's the actual sequel to RE2.

Rebel_Scum87d ago

The original RE was the best. Its not on the list which makes no sense.

The remake of it was alright but should be higher on this list.

-Foxtrot87d ago

The original RE smokes VII and Village, come on.

ivoryrolland9567d ago

i’m fine with people calling it “mainline,” but leaving out the original re1 entirely is wild, since it basically defines the whole series. i’d still put re2 over re4 for pure pacing and atmosphere, even though re4 is the more replayable game. also, the “mainline” label gets messy with code veronica since it feels more essential than some numbered entries. i swear half the time i’m reading these rankings i get derailed by random gambling tabs i opened earlier, including https://monopolybigballerli... and https://football-studio-dic... and https://red-baron.org/ which is a weird contrast to talking about survival horror.
