PS4 Back Button Attachment Review

Dual Pixels: "Who would have thought an accessory would be a game changer?  And for the price, it's definitely a game changer. I was skeptical when Sony announced they were making yet another accessory, out of nowhere."

They should make an attachment that improves the battery life :/

KillBill2307d ago

Real curious as to how this affects battery life seeing it draws battery for the display. Have not seen an instance where said display is in an off mode. Would be nice to see a detailed review of the device instead of the "i love you" reviews that give little actual specifics that we couldn't garner ourselves.

UltraNova2307d ago

Maybe those "I love you" reviewers didn't notice any noteworthy battery drain? Just saying...

SamPao2306d ago

its an oled, and you can see it turns off very quickly and its 2 buttons, they use nearly NO additional battery and reviewers say the same, they did not see any change

xetiro2306d ago (Edited 2306d ago )

Can't understand the fuzz with the battery life consumption from such a simple USB attachment device. This is a low-power accessory that only features a super small, low-res and monochromatic oled interface that automatically idles off after a few seconds. It only lights on the few pixels that it has when you touch it to change/update the buttons profile. Besides that, 99% of the time this accessory is a simple 2 digital button input. I would say that its virtually impossible to notice any real-life battery life drain from this device.

This is a well design accessory that fits the DS4 perfectly and does its job well at a fair price. That's the only reason why in overall the reviews and feedback of this accessory has been extremely positive. If battery consumption was even a problem that would stand out as a negative aspect of this accessory, but its obviously not the case.

kparks2306d ago

I've had this a couple days now Walmart was selling it early for 25$ the screen is only on for like 3 seconds and you have to activate it, I don't see any drain on the battery. The attachment will take some getting used to it feels really weird if your not used to it but it does seem well made. Hope this helps

rainslacker2306d ago

A couple have mentioned it, and said it doesnt seem to affect the battery life. The oled doesnt stay on all the time apparently

Idk why people complain. Yesterday i play from like 12 to 2am and the controller started dying at 2am and this is non stop playing days gone. So sure can it improves and yeah it shoul why not. But 14hrs gameplay non stop isn't that bad.

JackBNimble2306d ago

I don't get anywhere close to 14 hours, maybe a 3 hours and my controller is only a few months old.
I don't have a huge problem with this because I just plug into my phone charger but the DS4 battery life is shit.

rainslacker2306d ago

I only have issues on games which go heavy on the rumble function. Borderlands 2 was maybe 4-5 hours of constant play. Most games I get 8 or more hours, and I rarely play that long in one go. If by chance the battery starts going dead, I have a usb cord right next to my sofa

SamPao2306d ago

its called a cable and its almost always in stock :D

drunkenspy0072306d ago

I never had any issue with the battery. Not to say it won't run out, but I seem to get at least 12 hours or more before needing to recharge, and that just means connecting up to the cable. I have two controllers though, just in case one does need to charge.

Pre-ordered mine. Haven’t gotten it yet.

SeanScythe2306d ago

same preordered on amazon, but shows out of stock and that im on a list to be notified when it's back in stock. I thought preorder meant I would get one in stock. I can understand not preordering having to wait.

GameStallion2306d ago (Edited 2306d ago )

Seriously, I checked again to see when I pre-ordered and it was the 31st of Dec. 1st world problems I guess, bro.

SeanScythe2305d ago (Edited 2305d ago )

Canceled my amazon and found my local gamestop had them same price in stock. Went and grabbed one on my way home.

BlackDoomAx2306d ago

Just a few things I notice just by the look (and for comparing with a strike pack that I have): why put the screen on the back and not on the front? If you want to change it in game, you stop playing and turn it ? Then I think it won't fit for every hand as the buttons are in straight line ( compare with a strike pack to see what I'm talking about ). If you plan to buy one, you should try it before to see if you're comfortable with it.

Abnor_Mal2306d ago

Went to my local Gamestop to pick one up, but the store was going out of business. Most everything Gone off the shelves and what little they had was 70% off. They were even selling off the shelving units and odd furniture.

Will take a trip to Best buy tomorrow and pick one up, only hearing good reviews about this device. With reviewers saying the old screen is very dim and only stays on for a few seconds and there was no noticable battery drain.

As for why the screen is on the back, I would guess because it would be easier to hit and possibly change features while using the thumbsticks if the screen was on the front.

NO, that can't be... No! I can't... Really?/s

Cacabunga19d ago

They for sure chose the worst way to deal with it

-Foxtrot18d ago

Funny considering Bruce left half way through development and now we get told there was an internal conflict with the story direction.

Makes you think…

HectixRose19d ago

I think it was good decision, if he was still alive, he would have been a mascot just like Kratos, drake and many others. These old dudes gotta die for new characters to take center stage with their own storyline. They keep dragging the emotional baggage into many sequels and eventually the story just turns into absolute shit show.

JEECE19d ago

It was ironic because people complained heavily about the story in the Uncharted games not having sufficient stakes because all the key characters always survived, despite the dangerous situations they were always in. Then ND killed a character in a more serious series and everyone lost their minds. Just shows that people don't always really want the thing they say they want.

CantThinkOfAUsername18d ago

I thought the more common complaint about Uncharted franchise was how the main cast are the good guys acting so nonchalantly while killing hundreds in cold blood (aka the dissonance between gameplay and story cutscenes). They just did it again in Part II.

Soy19d ago

Didn't have to kill him. Just have them part ways or Joel can "retire," whatever.

DarXyde18d ago

I don't think he would necessarily need to become a mascot (and besides, technically, I'd say Ellie is... So regardless, someone was going to be).

From a narrative perspective, I do think it has a similar effect to Ricky dying in Boyz N Da Hood: very likeable character, and you're really motivated to see the get back—in this case, it's more intense because it's an interactive experience. Most people hated Abby, but I get what they were after with portraying the cycle of violence and revenge—unfortunately, the game appears to want to take the side of the bad people.

But I will say that if Joel survived, it does become harder to tell an interesting story. What COULD have happened is an exploration into the rift between Joel and Ellie after the trolley dilemma events of the first game. It could have been interesting to see Abby out for revenge at the same time Ellie hated Joel.

Ashunderfire8618d ago

Sorry just had to say this lol! RICKYYYY!

Man Cuba Gooding Jr was miscast in that movie, but that part was cringey it was sad and funny at the same time man.

Ashunderfire8618d ago (Edited 18d ago )

I understand but the way they went about killing Joel, was poorly executed. Even the show of the Last of Us games tried to improved it, but it was just as bad. Well at least Joel got to know the reason why he had to die, before the death happened in the show. That part gave us the full context, but the game just let it happen with no pay off.

Joel death should have been a midway thing through the story, so we at least get to play him a little more with Ellie. Abby didn’t need to be this Hulk looking woman, but more like the show Abby which is a beater idea in my opinion.

The only ND game that was so disappointing to me I couldn't finish it.

pwnmaster300019d ago

Honestly as much as I loved the game, they could have just not killed him off.
I get it creator vision and all but killing a character that made you millions is just wrong imo. At least have him go down fighting.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle18d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
