Fallout 3 Graphics Performance In-Depth Look

"Recently we looked at how various ATI and Nvidia based graphics cards fared in Far Cry 2 and the results were somewhat unexpected as we found that mid-range graphics cards were capable of playing this game in all of its visual glory. Today we have yet another impressive new game called Fallout 3, which has had the same level of hype and anticipation surrounding it as Far Cry 2 did during the entire year."

To be honest, I can't even see the difference

moses6327d ago

The textures and models in fallout 3 aren't all that detailed, but the main difference in the settings are the detail in draw distance, and AA. As of right now, there are a bunch of people working on textures mods to make the game look 2x better!

It's also good that it isn't a crysis like game because more cards can run this MASSIVE game comfortably.

Bolts6327d ago

Fallout 3 rips through 50 FPS on my PC on ultra. While the game doesn't look amazing it looks a hell lot better than my cousin's 360's. There are a lot character textures and details missing on the console. However the biggest difference between Fallout 3 on the PC and the console is the load time. The PC quick load is so fast that sometimes I get lost and can't even tell what just happened.

kwicksandz6327d ago

The PC version loads so fast that you dont have time to read the tips they put on the loadscreen.

As for the actual visuals i dont think they are that much improved really. A few cleaner textures here and there but you can tell they scaled the engine down for consoles =(

lagoonalight6327d ago

On the water shot there is a VAST difference from Ultra to High.
Vast as in very large difference in textures, lighting, depth, etc.

My question is the 360/Ps3 version water looking like high or Ultra.

I will not be getting this game simply because I don't have a PC and I am
not about to accept the version I have been given.

swinesucker6327d ago

That is a good question. Ultra looks way more refined in certain shots. Some of the High ones look like crap, that water is atrocious.

z1ck6326d ago

play this game in ultra high using my hd 4870 but had to decrease a little how far you can see the tree and houses so that i could have a constant 60 fps everywhere also had to remove the water reflection ( but i think it was not necessary the last ) anyway next catalyst will bring fixes but the details are at the max so the games is perfect

Would be nice if they had New Vegas ready as well, especially because of the show.

Hopefully this doesn't have the same performance issues as Oblivion Remastered.

cloganart55d ago

I haven't seen anything on these performance issues? What's been going on?

walken755d ago

Probably the Unreal Engine issues, I skipped it for that reason.

Snookies1256d ago (Edited 56d ago )

Throw in all the DLC as well, like Oblivion and I'll definitely bite. I recall having one trophy left to unlock on the PS3 version with 100+ hours in my save. When my save file got corrupted, lol. Very sad day.

To be fair though, Bethesda was trash at Playstation ports anyway.

Michiel198955d ago

all devs sucked at porting to ps3 for the first like 3 years because no one had experience with the cell architecture. Even 1st party took a long while to get proficient with it, the difference between uncharted 1 and 3 is massive for example.

Extermin8or3_56d ago

Oh oh oh I can do this too. GTA 7 will be made at some point in the future. Fallout 5 will enter development in the future too

jznrpg56d ago

Everyone there should know most gamers want New Vegas and Morrowind more than anything.

Christopher55d ago

Which is why we won't get them. Gotta keep floating "support this one and it might happen".

BlaqMagiq155d ago

Can't wait. Won't have to go back to my PS3 to play this when it comes out.

Fallout 3 remastered on the Nintendo Switch 2 is what we deserve, not the worst Fallout game

Fallout Day's disappointing news that Fallout 4 is coming to Switch 2 is a shame, as this 17-year-old entry is more deserving of a new port.

Why exactly do you think you deserve it??

Phoenix76128d ago

Fallout 4 isn't the worst game in the franchise. It's either Fallout 76 or Fallout BOS that's the worst.

gigoran8127d ago

PC and all other modern consoles never got a remaster of 3, but obviously the switch 2 was the tipping point to make it a reality... ahuh

1nsomniac127d ago

Meh, I thought 3 was garbage. I'm not a great fan of the franchise to be fair. They're like B-Movie films, really shallow and janky. 4 was definitely one of the better ones though.

UltimateOwnage127d ago

So the article makes a snippy entitled statement and acts like that is going to encourage a publisher to give them what they want. Okay.

Give us FO3 with all the dlc remastered like ESO. Load times faster, quality of life improvements, gun play improvements

I believe it shouldn't just be graphical they should make improvements where they can to make the game better. A simple face lift isn't what's needed

ZeekQuattro315d ago

Still my favorite one. I remember getting a digital copy of FO3 when I got FO4(XBO). It was nice to finally play a stable version of the game. Then when I got a Series S it was an even better expierence. Quick resume and FPS boost made it feel like a whole new game. Updated gunplay would be very welcome though. One of the few things FO4 did better.
