Fallout 3 is Overwhelming

Loot Ninja writes:

"I just embarked on the journey of Fallout 3 and I have to say that the game is so large and so open ended that I find myself lost at times. Fallout 3 makes no attempt to hold your hand and instead throws you into an apocalyptic nuclear fallout equipped with a BB gun and a dream."

The scale of Fallout is so massive that it can be easy to get lost and overwhelmed, fortunately this is in a good way.

greyishfox6327d ago

It's a huge game and I'm feeling like I'm missing points but I think this will just add to the replay value.

StephanieBBB6326d ago

I felt very underwhelmed when I first arrived in DC. I was like "is that it?". I Always felt like a second big town besides megaton and DC was missing. Baltimore would be sweet to include in fallout 3.

But I guess that Im used to Oblivions scale so fallout 3 is far from big according to me.

shovelbum6326d ago

I feel that this game is much less overwhelming that Oblivion which was just too massive with way too much to do. I am loving Fallout 3 to the point that FC2, Fable II (beaten already) and LBP haven't gotten any play in the past week. It just pulls you in and won't let go until your eyelids refuse to go along any longer. As for comparisons to Fable II; there isn't one IMO. It isn't in the same league even tho I enjoyed it. Fable did do one thing much better and that was with the dog companion. In Fallout 3 Dogmeat can get in the way and get lost for a bit but my dog in fable was a perfect AI companion. If you can only get one game this month, it has to be Fallout 3.

Was listening to Pete Hines from Bethesda on Major Nelson's podcast today. One of the major difference between Oblivion and Fallout is you don't have all towns on your map as soon as you leave the Vault like when you leave the Sewers in Oblivion. Since you've lived your entire life in the Vault, you don't know what's out there and you have to walk everywhere to discover things. Having it like this is fairly daunting, but there's a ton of exploration to do. I can easily see how people feel overwhelmed at the game.

taz80806327d ago

Yeha it is definitely a game where the developers are letting you experience the game and figure things out, it is a huge contrast from Fable where the devs literally hold your hand the whole way.

taz80806327d ago

Fallout 3 has potential for game of the year and also headache of the year if people rush playing through it.

drunkpandas6327d ago

Game of the Year is going to be a very tough call this year

greyishfox6327d ago

Not sure on GoY but going to say that there is no need for a Fallout 4 for a few years because I won't be done with this one yet.
Great game so far.

PirateThom6327d ago

You know a game is working when you can wander around for over an hour, not even on a quest, and still enjoy the exploration of it.

taz80806327d ago

Agreed, I guess I was not prepared for this aspect, as no real game has given this amount of freedom of styles.

tatotiburon6327d ago

i'm glad i bought the xbox 360 superior version

Porno Decepticon6327d ago

I'm glad you're a douche anyway.

mesh16327d ago

he is right tho i would be pissed o know im playing fallout and the 360 version has better texture work all round as stated by the playstaion 3 mag and ign . i hate playing left overs .

taz80806327d ago

wouldnt the PC version be superior? PC games visually look better (of course this is dependant on your rig) but if you have a very good PC they are typically superior graphically.

Would be nice if they had New Vegas ready as well, especially because of the show.

Hopefully this doesn't have the same performance issues as Oblivion Remastered.

cloganart51d ago

I haven't seen anything on these performance issues? What's been going on?

walken751d ago

Probably the Unreal Engine issues, I skipped it for that reason.

Snookies1252d ago (Edited 52d ago )

Throw in all the DLC as well, like Oblivion and I'll definitely bite. I recall having one trophy left to unlock on the PS3 version with 100+ hours in my save. When my save file got corrupted, lol. Very sad day.

To be fair though, Bethesda was trash at Playstation ports anyway.

Michiel198952d ago

all devs sucked at porting to ps3 for the first like 3 years because no one had experience with the cell architecture. Even 1st party took a long while to get proficient with it, the difference between uncharted 1 and 3 is massive for example.

Extermin8or3_52d ago

Oh oh oh I can do this too. GTA 7 will be made at some point in the future. Fallout 5 will enter development in the future too

jznrpg52d ago

Everyone there should know most gamers want New Vegas and Morrowind more than anything.

Christopher51d ago

Which is why we won't get them. Gotta keep floating "support this one and it might happen".

BlaqMagiq152d ago

Can't wait. Won't have to go back to my PS3 to play this when it comes out.

Fallout 3 remastered on the Nintendo Switch 2 is what we deserve, not the worst Fallout game

Fallout Day's disappointing news that Fallout 4 is coming to Switch 2 is a shame, as this 17-year-old entry is more deserving of a new port.

Why exactly do you think you deserve it??

Phoenix76124d ago

Fallout 4 isn't the worst game in the franchise. It's either Fallout 76 or Fallout BOS that's the worst.

gigoran8124d ago

PC and all other modern consoles never got a remaster of 3, but obviously the switch 2 was the tipping point to make it a reality... ahuh

1nsomniac123d ago

Meh, I thought 3 was garbage. I'm not a great fan of the franchise to be fair. They're like B-Movie films, really shallow and janky. 4 was definitely one of the better ones though.

UltimateOwnage123d ago

So the article makes a snippy entitled statement and acts like that is going to encourage a publisher to give them what they want. Okay.

Give us FO3 with all the dlc remastered like ESO. Load times faster, quality of life improvements, gun play improvements

I believe it shouldn't just be graphical they should make improvements where they can to make the game better. A simple face lift isn't what's needed

ZeekQuattro311d ago

Still my favorite one. I remember getting a digital copy of FO3 when I got FO4(XBO). It was nice to finally play a stable version of the game. Then when I got a Series S it was an even better expierence. Quick resume and FPS boost made it feel like a whole new game. Updated gunplay would be very welcome though. One of the few things FO4 did better.
