Kotaku really don't like this game. I think it's the 10th Days Gone article from them.

CP_Company2583d ago

those swj leftist this game really triggered :D you don't like the game? just move on, but they can't. so pathetic.

Bismarn2583d ago

Us haters are entitled to hate on this game for as long as the pre-release undeserved hype lasted, so only about 8 more months, or 104 N4G articles whichever comes first.

xX-oldboy-Xx2583d ago

Bismarm - The games success must grind your gears, let it go - next stop stomach ulcer.

Silly gameAr2583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

I know this game's reception is really showing some people's true colors. From both sides.

Nitrowolf22583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

@Bismarn

Did this game really generate a lot of hype? Sure maybe leading up to release but that’s normal for any game, but iirc correctly the first previews of this game were rather “bad” with it getting more positives ones last year.

Either way, many had already in their mind that this game would probably be sitting at the lower spectrum of PS exclusives. Seems to me that for those of us who have played it, can see there’s a rather large amount of nonsense being tossed around to put the game down.

I don’t honestly think a lot of PlayStation owners honestly were expecting this to be the next big thing, but it certainly isn’t as bad as reviewers have made it out to be.

Yes there was hype but it’s no where near as big as other titles out there. Yes the game isn’t a “perfect” game, nor is it the flop reviewers are saying it is. It just “ok”

Fluttershy772583d ago

Why would this trigger a leftist SWJ?

Redemption-642583d ago

Why do the so called anti-sjw make topics unrelated to sjw about SJW?

Marioraider182583d ago

Anti SJWs are worse than SJWs. All I see is bitching from them.

meep3162582d ago (Edited 2582d ago )

I think a few of you just dont realize how deluded social justice warriors are and how much they look for reasons to trash things on social media for likes. Some of them are saying things such as the zombies in this game are too white... Im not sure how they took over gaming journalism, but here we are :(.
These are people who repeat nazi bs, just flip it around and think that will save the world.

meep3162582d ago

@Silly gameAr
What do you mean both sides? Its not two groups of people, its a bunch of lunatic journalists spreading their hipster racism vs everyone with a brain. You can be left wing without being a lunatic, just like you can be right wing without being racist.

jeki2582d ago (Edited 2582d ago )

Why are you screaming about SJW, leftists, and triggering people?

N4G is a game site, not a propaganda outlet.

meep3162582d ago (Edited 2582d ago )

@jeki because the game journalists won't cut it out. Most of us used to love game journalism when it wasn't agenda based..

Silly Mammo2582d ago

Most of the world are moderates. Some people haven't figured out that screaming "SJW!!!!” in every article is every bit annoying as the side they decry. Both ends of the spectrum are extreme and both are annoying.

Lord_Sloth2582d ago

@Bismarn

I didn't see much hype behind this game... Like... There was coverage of it and interviews but a lot of indifference for the most part.

GameStallion2582d ago

BAWHAHAHA! So true!!! I’m enjoying commenting on all these anti-Days Gone articles. Journalists are just so sad it doesn’t fit within their framework of what they think media should say.

If Kotaku hates it, that's a clear indicator that it's probably a good game.

zsquaresoff2583d ago

I am absolutely dumbfounded by the level of stupidity displayed in this article.

Knushwood Butt2583d ago

I don't doubt it, but I never give Kotaku a click.

UltraNova2583d ago

I am absolutely dumbfounded by the sheer hate this game is receiving. Its as if people are offended by its very existence...

game journalism has been poisoned by lunatics.

JesusBuiltmyHotrod2582d ago

totally agree....the games press are friggin awful.

AKS2582d ago (Edited 2582d ago )

It's similar to what I saw with the movie Alita: Battle Angel. They were bashing that movie and saying it is "a huge flop" over a week before it was even in theaters. "Critics" were relentless in attacking it just like these gaming...journalists.

IamTylerDurden12583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

I actually like Sam Witwer. Deacon is a bit of an antihero in this, he's conflicted, he's an outlaw. This isn't the cookie-cutter white bread good guy, he was a respected member of a hardcore motorcycle gang. Deacon is hard and he takes no shit, and i love it. People might not realize, but there are reasons for why Deacon is the way he is, he's actually a deep character and he does change and become more palatable as the story progresses.

I like how Deacon comments on things. It's dynamic and relevant, it adds to the immersion and overall experience. It's an extra system they put in place.

ClayRules20122583d ago

Yeah, I’ve been a fan of Sam for years, and when I found out he was playing Deacon, I was really excited. He brings Deacon to life & does a great job. When he comments on certain things (like when I went into a Ripper camp) his comments got me more engaged in what I was doing & it really adds to the experience!

Hardiman2583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

It's like I'm in a different reality or something because I see nothing in Days Gone that warrants the hate it's receiving. It controls great, looks awesome and it's fun as hell to play, so I just don't get it.

Sam Witwer does a really great job and I have no issue with his inner convos. Now Alexios in AC Odyssey was someone who I wish would've shut up more because he sounded like an idiot in his over delivery of a majority of his lines but it was still fun and there's always Kassandra.

It's narrative doesn't match HZD, GOW, TLOU or Uncharted but most games don't and it doesn't have to because it's well made and again it's fun. I wish M$ would release exclusives like Days Gone because I'd buy an Xbox again if they did. If Days Gone is bottom of the barrel, then gaming is in a really great place!

ClayRules20122583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

Well said.

While it’s narrative doesn’t match those games, like you mentioned, it’s a great game in its own right. While certainly a bit rough around the edges “in my opinion” it’s so much fun.

Bend has done a great job with their first console game in so so many years, and I can’t wait to see what they do next.

Hardiman2583d ago

Clay I hear ya and I too have said it has rough edges but the more I play it the more I see that it doesn't. It has a more detailed world than AC Origins/Odyssey. I mention them because the last year or so I've put considerable time into each and still have stuff to do in Odyssey but Days Gone is just as good as any third party title. The benefits of the devs only having to focus on one machine really shines through.

I'm really impressed with Days Gone. It's everything I anticipated and more. The only thing that bugs me is when I go to sprint in heated moments I go to the menu screen because of the touch pad.

xX-oldboy-Xx2583d ago

It's an easy target, on the surface it checks a few bullet points for a certain group to rage about. But the game is everything you said - looks, plays and controls great. The sound deserves a mention too.

They'll keep having cracks at it, even into next gen! Owners of the game know better, it ain't perfect - far from it. But it's a solid fun to play game on any level.

Looking forward to the sequel.

Hardiman2583d ago

The sound design is on point. I love the roll of thunder and the crack of lightning. I also love the stealth mechanics and all the ways you can take down an enemy encampment.

xX-oldboy-Xx2583d ago

The grenades and explosives/explosions are on point, debris falls all around Deacon.

Dark_Knightmare22583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

One of my favorite things is how lived in the world feels which makes it seem like a real place. I don’t know if any one else has noticed but I love how the lootable materials are in places that actually make sense like alarm clocks, beer bottles, rags etc. The dynamic weather system also deserves special mention it’s hands down the best one I’ve seen in any game imo.

Knushwood Butt2582d ago

^

just one of the audio highlights, but I love sometimes when it first starts to rain, and you hear a few raindrops hit around you. Good stuff.

AKS2582d ago

The directional audio is also surprisingly good for a single player game. I'm able to locate freakers I can't see and tell where enemy fire is coming from with my headset (using Siberia 840 currently), which I expect will be quite useful if there is a more difficult mode coming via DLC.

Shut the hell up, Kotaku!

BTW that second paragraph shows and gives away exactly why Kotaku hates this game.

Myself and many other gamers have no issue with this at all. Personally I think its actually very realistic because if you are alone in the wilde you will most certainly be talking to yourself almost all the time laying out whats ahead of you, hek I do at home. We as gamers should know this all too well because all we do is talk to ourselves when we play. Dont believe me? Record yourself.

So again Kotaku, shut the hell up! You are not a game site anymore so why dont you get away from gamers and go spread your BS on the few people who still think you are relevant.

OB1Biker2583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

I already talk to myself all the time. Haha
Seriously it's obvious Deacon is mentally unstable or traumatised. His talking makes sense.
Also they were complaining of a generic character but now they complain he's got too much personality. Which is it?

Dark_Knightmare22583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

Lol same here my brother will walk in and ask who I was talking to lol. I remember reading a study from somewhere that people who talk to themselves uh like thinking out loud and working through a problem verbally tend to be smarter than ones who don’t. I wish I could remember where I saw this article so I could link it.

rainslacker2583d ago

And yet, they loved the Tomb Raider games. Lara wouldn't shut up either.

ClayRules20122583d ago

Lol, good point. While I loved Lara (in the reboot game) Rise & Shadow didn’t do much for me, for a few reasons. But on the subject of the Tomb Raider games, Lara’s friends never were really likable or interesting, for me. Where as in Days Gone, I’ve really enjoyed all the different characters you meet in the story.

rainslacker2583d ago

I liked the game alright. Story of the first was so-so, 2nd had a terrible story, and haven't finished the third. I just find the new Lara's personality annoying as all piss, and have long said in forums all she does is whine incessantly.

Inzo2583d ago

Damn thats a good point.

OB1Biker2583d ago

Lara is worse. She has a sort of self pity attitude (from the first reboot I played) whereas Deacon has an angry attitude mixed with understandable melancholy of course.

uth112583d ago

And Aloy in HZD was talking constantly as well

AKS2582d ago

I wish Aloy would remind me a few more thousand times about checking on what I can exchange for Bluegleam.

rainslacker2582d ago

It's equally old regardless of the game when it's frequent and there isn't enough variety to the comments. A lot of times it's just a passive sub-routine when you meet certain conditions. For instance, the bluegleam in HZD, when you have a certain amount in your pack, it keeps trying to highlight that you should use one of the features in the game.

I don't generally knock games for it. It really depends on the nature of the comments. Some that try to make it seem cool or trendy, I like the least.

Sony scrapping Days Gone studio's live service IP didn't come as a surprise to one dev

Responding to one user saying that they'll "never get over what they did" to Bend Studio, Morrison says: "To be fair we didn't make enough substantial progress over the three years I was there. I saw the eventual cancellation coming prior to it."

This live service push should’ve never happened in the first place! It put most of their major studios behind schedule big time.

209d ago
Redgrave209d ago

A big thank you to Jim for this shortsighted, greedy blunder. A half thank you to Herman, because he stupidly kept some of them going.

The PS5 gen has essentially been a bust, though a few gems such as Returnal, Astro Bot, and Steller Blade.

We might not have had unnecessary remasters (Last of Us, Horizon) or remakes (Last of Us, again) if not for this. Alas, with the die already having been cast, we hope for a return to form.

But, along with the current state of the industry, I don't think we will get it.

S2Killinit208d ago

I disagree. Somy needs to be able to compete in all genre. They have nothing less than studios that do have successful live service games, including MS which is solely focused on service games. Sony had a live service success with Helldivers that people like to not mention in these articles.

209d ago
TheColbertinator209d ago

Sony is stupid for thinking live service would work for them. Or anything else they do for that matter.

Inverno209d ago

To work on something for 3 years and say that no substantial progress has been on it seems to be the trend happening across the industry. It's one thing to work without stress or crunch but in 3 years they could've used everything made for Days Gone and had a sequel out by now. Or worked on something smaller that they actually wanted to work on and with actual direction.

Travesty209d ago (Edited 209d ago )

Sony was the one telling them to do something different. I don’t blame Bend Studios. It was a lot of pressure pushing live service titles out and it backfired.

DaysGone wasn’t a bad title. It sold pretty well too. It sold 8 million copies on PS4 as of 2021. Almost 2 million on PC as of 2022. I don’t know the remastered version but it sold decent for a game that was already on the PlayStation Catalog.
They should have let them make a sequel. The series was made to be a trilogy.
The canceled game was reportedly using the Decima engine. It would make sense if their next game would be using that. I know DaysGone was using UE4. But if they did make a sequel I would prefer Decima over UE5. But that’s wishful thinking.
I’m not against a Syphon Filter remake. But just give us something memorable.

isarai209d ago

This is where there's a huge misconception that everyone is still running with. The idea of a sequel wasnt taken off the table, ONE MANS PITCH for a sequel wasnt greenlit, there would definitely be more than one pitch for a sequel

Travesty209d ago

The one man was the former director of Bend Studios. It not being “greenlit” was what I was referring to when they asked if Bend Studios would be interested in making a Syphon Filter game, after they released Days Gone. Don’t understand what was misleading.

https://www.thegamer.com/so...

isarai208d ago

The misleading part is that studios get several pitches, their could've easily been like 3 separate days gone sequel pitches, just because he's director doesn't mean his pitch couldn't have been lame, i mean he was talking about it being a multiplayer game, that already sounds iffy. But everyone talks as if the idea of a sequel as a whole was dismissed and we just don't know that.

I don't know why you're being downvoted. It is a new thing in the remaster. Perhaps it's not worth the $10 upgrade if you've played. But, I mean, if you never played the game, then just wait for it to go on sale, forget about it, and continue not playing it like you did for the last 6 years?

TheEroica382d ago

The downvotes are likely from the excuses... Horde mode doesn't obsolve Sony from cash grabbing its easily duped fanbase.

S2Killinit381d ago

I love how people call this a money grab while the real money grabbing is in other genres. But, I think people who are that dumb deserve to be fed with skins and micro-transactions, and don’t get to complain that single player games of this caliber are few and far in between.

IAMRealHooman381d ago

@TheEroica
they changed the header. it was originally the " Remaster has nothing new" or something similar.

Christopher381d ago

It's still in the description: "Fans of the original won't find anything new here."

princejb134382d ago

Days gone is amazing regardless and for those that didn’t play the original I highly recommend.

SimpleSlave382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

Yes. All of Sony's Remasters - all the ones stemming from the PS4 library - are cash-grabs. When all they needed to do was patch them to run at 60fps, up the resolution, and be done with it. But then they had to actually care about Bloodborne, and that's a cardinal sin over at Sony.

On a side note. I just got The Sinking City Remastered for free, because I owned the game. Weird...

anast382d ago

The Bloodborne thing is a real issue.

SimpleSlave382d ago

I'm sure they banish people to the Nightmare Frontier if they as much as whisper the name in the office.

Bebedora382d ago

Cash-grab or not. As long the Bend Studio gets their share, I am for it. I don't know, but I still hope for making of a second title. However, in a way It's a cash-grab. They still put something extra to it (horde mode), that is.

anast382d ago

lol Yeah they seem to hate the idea of a new Bloodborne anything.

I've still got to play the shrinking city. I enjoy Lovecraftian stuff.

RaidenBlack382d ago

Hope the recent remasters like Sinking City and Oblivion, ups the ante and alters the industry's approach.
But what fans really want is just a straight up sequel ... oh and add sequel to 1886 as well.

GhostScholar382d ago

I would love a days gone sequel. Days gone to me is such a better game than the last of us. The world in days gone was so great.

382d ago
mkis007382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

To me they appeal to different players outside of just being zombie games. I like them both, but days gone is more fun to me. The last of us 2 is my murder game though along with red dead 2 and gta 5. Love the realistic violence.

jznrpg381d ago

I’m a big fan of Days Gone but TLOU is a better made game. How much you enjoyed each game is of course up to you.

neutralgamer1992382d ago

With the recent cancellation of Bend Studio’s live-service project, there’s now a real and exciting opportunity for the studio to revisit Days Gone 2. This might be the perfect time for Sony to greenlight the sequel—especially with the PS6 likely on the horizon—because Days Gone already has a strong foundation, a passionate fanbase, and significant untapped potential.

It’s worth remembering that Days Gone was Bend Studio’s first major AAA title developed for a home console. Before that, the studio had primarily worked on portable systems like the PSP and PS Vita, or acted as a support studio. That leap to a full-scale open-world console game was ambitious, and although the game launched in a somewhat rough state, that context is crucial to understanding its initial reception.

Gaming critics were often harsh in their reviews, frequently comparing Days Gone to other PlayStation exclusives that came from more seasoned console studios like Naughty Dog or Santa Monica Studio. Despite these comparisons and the early technical issues, Days Gone still went on to sell over 7.6 million copies—a remarkable achievement for a new IP. Even more importantly, Bend Studio listened to fan feedback and steadily improved the game through patches, updates, and optimizations. Today, Days Gone stands as a much more polished and enjoyable experience than it was at launch.

That kind of growth shows Bend Studio’s resilience and potential. A sequel would not only benefit from their hard-earned experience, but also avoid many of the pitfalls that affected the original’s development. Much of the foundational tech, gameplay systems, and world-building has already been done, meaning the studio can focus more on innovation and storytelling rather than reinventing the wheel.

Compared to the high-risk, long-development timeline of a new IP—which could take 5+ years just to get through pre-production—returning to Days Gone is both a smarter and more efficient route. If Sony and Bend Studio commit to Days Gone 2 now, there’s a strong possibility it could be a key PS6 launch title—offering a fan-driven, proven IP with greater polish, depth, and scope.

Let’s not forget Bend Studio’s deep legacy either. This is the same team that brought us Syphon Filter, a series that helped define early PlayStation experiences. With the right support and direction, they can absolutely deliver a worthy sequel that lives up to the franchise’s potential and the studio’s legacy

Days Gone PS5 Is a 'Really Good Piece of Work', Say Tech Experts

Sammy writes: "Back when Days Gone Remastered was announced, many fans were squinting to see the differences between the excellent original PS4 version and its PS5 re-release.

But now with the game readily available – and our 8/10 review declaring it the “definitive version of a fan favourite” – we’re beginning to get some meaningful tech analysis.

And according to Digital Foundry, this is not just the bare-bones resolution upscale some had anticipated – “a lot of effort has gone into it”, according to the tech experts. "

First game sell well enough to warrant a sequel? Our received well enough?

Alos88396d ago

It sold well but reviewed only okay, which apparently wasn't enough for Sony.

Sold well and received even better.. had a bad first month due to technical issues but ended up being one of the best games from last gen

Knightofelemia396d ago (Edited 396d ago )

That's the nature of the beast. If a game like a movie does not meet certain numbers then they write off the franchise. EA scrapped DS2 because the DS1 remake did not meet certain numbers. I was hoping the remaster of DG and the fact it also came to PC would convince Sony to green light a DG sequel.

PanicMechanic396d ago
