Top 5 Things Wrong With Open Worlds

Open world games sure are popular, and there’s a reason for that. They provide unrivaled freedom to the players and can be a good way to goof off in an expansive world. The year’s biggest games, for a few years now, tend to feature an open world. Some of these games can be absolutely fantastic.

"This is okay when the sidequests manage to enhance the setting or deepen the lore, but sometimes it’s just a bunch of chores that don’t make sense to pursue."

I agree with this 100%, especially in open world games. I especially hate when the side quests are nothing but the same fetch quests you do over and over again.

"Collectibles as a Proxy for Gameplay"

Honestly, the only reason collectibles are in these open world games is to encourage gamers to explore their mighty huge world. But it's such an old tactic to use now. Developers need to find a better way to encourage gamers to explore. Especially with open world games being as common as they are in todays gaming world.

My biggest complaint is that open worlds are created at the expense of either game stability or general bugs. Looking at you Bethesda.

Don’t mention about Bethesda. They lost their good will this year.

I feel like every time a new open world game is announced the first thing we hear is how large the world is. Instead of making it so big keep it a bit smaller but add more quality content. Witcher 3 showed how you do side content and the last dragon age showed how you fill your game world with icons that represent fetch quests

Ubi I feel like as a publisher is the worst one when it comes to open world games. I don't know why but they feel the game world should mr filled with icons. There are way too many open world games
