Intel embraces Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform for future graphics drivers

Intel has a new graphics driver available, but it's a bit different than previous versions and comes with a pretty big warning—be careful if rolling back to a previous version, or you could mess up your system.

Why does this sound like Microsoft pr? It’s kind of misleading as well, they are talking about integrated graphics but fail to mention it.

Eonjay2732d ago

PC gamer has been releasing gushing pro Microsoft articles lately. First this us about drivers not UWP and second Intel stated:

"Note that Microsoft requires the use of Windows Modern Drivers for Windows 10 1809 (RS5) and later. Intel will begin distributing Windows Modern Drivers for its products beginning in November 2018,"

Requiring someone to do something and then saying that they are embracing a completely separate system is not just dishonest, it makes it look like PC gamer thinks their audience is stupid.

I see the astroturfers disagreeing, but no real good defence this time.

timotim2732d ago

Of course its about integrated graphics...its UWP...for anyone to not understand this means they don't know much about the subject. This is a power move by Intel and Microsoft because the vast majority of consumer PCs run on integrated graphics. Think about Surface devices, Ultrabooks and tablets. That's big.

kevnb2732d ago (Edited 2732d ago )

Heres the thing, most people dont know much about these things. Thats why we see things like sd cards for the switch, or blank cds for music etc...
If anything intels drivers should have supported these apps long ago...

timotim2732d ago

That's true. My guess is that the 2n1 market has become too big to ignore for Intel. Surface Pro and Go continue to gain in market share. Windows on Arm will be coming on strong in 2019. Andromeda...it makes total sense.

UWP is disgusting.

timotim2732d ago

UWP is what all Xbox One games and apps are based off of. Forza Horizon 4 is UWP...

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing27d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit27d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing27d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
