Good to know you take time to read and understand articles.

It never claims use a USB HDD, it claims a game can be put onto a USB device for playback on the Xbox 360. It never says anything about the consumer doing such a thing, only the developers.

havent you heard already and for the last time metal gear 4 solid going to the 360 has been put to rest again its not going to the 360 ...... and you can not run games on external hard drives and not too metion developers are complaining about dvd space and mainly about live space limit put on by microsoft and no im no fanboy i own all systems hand held and home systems yes the wii which is collecting dust big time

This would not work with current USB drives.

The way usb drives are made is that they sacerfice length of use for storage. The larger the stick, the more closly placed the cells are. And because they are in blocks. That entire block must be modified by an electrical current. a non SLC stick wont last more then 100k reads. and even thats pushing it if you write back.

they would have to put it on the hard drive for this to be remotely possable

Gondee: Your right it will have it's limitations, but the USB port is really the only solution Microsoft has if they decide to do something about the complaints.

I think that there really isn't a storage issue in the eyes of MS. If there was, then they would seek to rectify the problem, Blu or otherwise. I believe the next xbox console will hit sooner than expected and that is why MS just shrugs off the storage issue if there is one.

So a big game costs $60 + the costs of a USB drive? No way never. I don't own a PS3 but this is a little far fetched. I have Blue Dragon and I actually like throwing in a new CD. It's a feeling of accomplishment.

that just wont work ... a 4gigmemori stick can go got 99 bucks and if they want to make BIG hd games they gona need lets say hummmm 25gigs atlest .. so lets see the price on that ....

it wont hapen in the end Microsoft made a bad pick going with DvDs .. and for more people dont like wen Sony says ps3 is future proff in the end they are right BlueRay does its work .. and space is not that big of a deal.. and HDD in every ps3 usb ports ..

the ps3 is ready for the next 6 years ( in my eyes is how much longer the ps3 will be alone as the Sony main console)

the 360 started wrong microsoft push it to much so it would be out a year befor the ps3 ..bad move .. if they had taken their timthse would never pop up as a problem nd no MGS4 wont show up on the 360
MGS4 is MGS4 because of its HD videos and gameplay so taking that to the 360 with out the full hd nd ia few dvds wont be MGS

inthe end bad move from Mcrosoft and now they gona come up with somethiid to keep up

There are USB flash memory aren't there? I've never seen a USB-ROM drive. In any case isn't 50gb of ROM cheaper then RAM.

If they can get 9gb in the DVD, and 32gb on a USB-ROM that's a lot of space. Seems silly though why not just allow people to install more data on an HDD. The side effect is having forced installs to the 360.

People who complain about the PS3 HDD installs might not use that as a bullet point for the system if 360 also had install requirements.

humm iasent that kinda dump ps3 does have more ExCl games that the 360 and ovaroul is much better .. going on the internet CHECK DVDs/ HD Blue Ray CHECK Online Gaming for up to 60 people CHECK games only for the ps3 (LB R2 K2 GT MAG FFvs and much more) CHECK

(oo ya i got a 360 and only cus of only good game th on 360 Gears)

Well, the first thing that Microsoft can do is to stop selling the Xbox 360 Arcades with no hard drive.

The next thing they should do is to offer anyone that already has a Xbox 360 Arcade a 25%-50% discount on ANY Xbox 360 Hard drive with proof of purchase.

I think that Microsoft's storage problem with the 360 could get worse if they continue to sell the Arcades. A USB Stick could be a step in the right direction like the article states, but knowing how Microsoft is, they will probably manufacture their own USB Stick and slap the Xbox name on it and sell it for an inflated price... hard drives should have been standard in every 360 to begin with like the first Xbox was. This is the HD-Era and Hard drives are a must... the Nintendo Wii is an exception because the Wii's games aren't even HD.

I have a better solution. A free HD-DVD addon with the purchase of a MGS4 HDDVD version of the game. You see you get MGS4 in a 51gb HDDVD disk and play it in your addon. It woun't be a lost because last time I check Wal-mart was sailing HDdvd addons for $5.

Three USB ports for every XBOX 360 sounds good, but in reality two are meant for other devices while one was meant for the WiFi adapter. So for the ones who have the WiFi adapter would mean nothing to them so stating that Microsoft was smart to include three USB ports was useless.

Now releasing games with a USB stick must be the strangest idea I've ever heard. Let’s look at memory sticks, for a 2.0 memory stick on Best Buy (Canada) will run you at $35.99/$34.99

$35.99 x $1.15 (tax changed but close enough) = $41.3885 (41.39)
$41.39 / 2GB = $20.695 (20.70)
$20.70 x 100GB = $2,070 for a 100GB Memory Stick

Now the USBs, a decent 2.0 one at Best Buy (Canada) will run you $9.99 for a 1GB drive.

$11.4885 (11.49) x 100GB = $1,149.00 for a 100GB 2.0 USB Drive.

As of speaking of now this will be too expensive to do when developers can just make games exclusive to the PlayStation 3. As the prices look as of today will not be the solution for XBOX 360 first party developers and will have to make do with what they got. Microsoft’s plan looked good for the short run but the long run Sony’s plan is gold. I can see all those exclusive titles that were once exclusive to the Sony brand coming back to Sony exclusively once again with their second or maybe third integration.

You would also have to think about what are each customer user the USB ports for. I'm using it for charging my controller(s), is the next person so adjustable as I am would be an important question? The funny thing too is that the PlayStation 3 is more suited for this than the XBOX 360.

You can't simply take retail prices to determine the per-unit pricing of gigs. Those are the markup prices and a gross-misleading at least. Did you know that it really costs about $3 to make a 1GB stick, the manufacturer sells the stick to retailers for $6-7 and then the stick is marked up to $10. So going by your math, you're way off because mark-ups have no weight on how much it costs manufacturers to make flash sticks.

Let's assume that it does cost $3 for a GB.

$3 x 9GB = $27 for a 9GB stick, which with mass-producing will reduce the volume pricing by $0.65 per stick.

$3 x 100GB = $300, however because you're using the same board for MLC(Multi-layer cells), you can knock off around %40-$50, which will be around $100-150. About a $1000 difference from your predictions.

I'm not saying that USB Sticks are a feasible solution for the 360 because MLC isn't favored due to low read-speed, write-speed, but I am saying that your math is way off when it comes to calculating costs.

If you honestly think a 100GB memory / USB stick would cost $150.00 you'll sadly mistaken. Yes I do agree that prices are changed once we finally see it in stores, but developers don't make USB drives. Microsoft makes their own hard drives and it's at a higher price than the regular ones on the market. If anything my calculations are lower not higher because if it was easy to fit 100GB we would see it.

Like for example the technology in Blu-ray discs are different than the technology in DVDs. They had to change the laser's wavelength (405 nanometres) allowing it to hold more data. So by the time we start seeing 50GB / 100GB memory stick / USB drives it will most likely use new technology that would cost more to produce not less.

With the $3.00 will most likely go up to $10.00 or even $15.00 just to make alone then adding on the distribution prices on top of that. This is how people make money, you never sell something at the price it cost to make it.

Some people are seriously super slow. Just 3-4 days ago, KONAMI stated once again, that MGS IV is NOT coming to the 360 what-so-ever because of HARDWARE and CAPACITY. The Internet is your best friend. You can contact KONAMI at www.konami.com

Edit -- Btw, to the newbie who said "60 player is ANNOYING" you are just jealous because the PS3 can handle that many players on large-scale battlefields. Don't forget, those large space ships that you see are also IN-GAME (CG graphics) while you are in LA. I've seen them and died twice looking at them while shooting at other players. You should do more review on how the 60 player works. And R2 is the FIRST shooter to have Co-op on a console.

Poor Gears of War 2, low on Capacity to let Co-op be avaliable? Or is Unreal Engine 3 their best choice? Where's CG modeling? ... Hardware can't take it? Very sad.

DVD-DISC/XBOX Live bit torrent. While playing the game the parts of the levels will be downloaded in the background and streamed for game play. There is no space issue. Intelligent disc/ download ratios can be established.
