This is the one problem with the Nintendo Switch

Commentary: Nintendo's transportable console is a massive hit, but the pricing of its games remains a sore point for this CNET editor.

Nintendo are notorious for keeping the price of their first party software high years after releasing.

Not to mention that their digital sales are usually mediocre to underwhelming.

They make excellent games, but the prices of some of these titles in their ecosystem is absurd.

Neonridr3033d ago

It's true. Their first party titles hardly ever go on sale, even years after they come out you can only expect small discounts. I guess it's a smart business decision since they know every Switch owner is going to buy BOTW or Mario Odyssey. So not discounting them means a heck of a lot more money for them.

I don't necessarily agree with that thinking as that is purely a business strategy, but it is what it is.

Plus, once they stop production on any games they usually get even more expensive, even used ones.

Fist4achin3032d ago

It is insane buying 3ds games because their prices hardly ever budge. Crazy, since they seem to be slowly killing it off because the switch is their direction for the future. Im not sure what they are doing with the 2ds, but i hope games continue releasing for 3ds for a little while longer.

letsa_go3032d ago (Edited 3032d ago )

You must not pay attention to sales or don't have best buy gamers club. 3DS games are on sale all the time! I used to resell them on ebay for a profit.

Vegamyster3032d ago

It sucks that their prices remain high but on the other hand they also hold their trade value a lot better than other games because of this, obviously that doesn't benefit those that keep all their games though.

It's mainly because of how things work in Japan.

You can buy a game for $60 and a year later trade it in and get $45-50. It's a different type of market, so that extends to the U.S. and Europe as well.

Still does 60 fps in a lot of games. Can't say the same for the PS4 or XBone.

DarkHeroZX3032d ago

Hardly any games do 60fps lol

letsa_go3032d ago

It is easy when it is running ps3/360 quality graphics. Let's see the switch run uncharted 4, until dawn, halo 5, gears of war 4 at 60fps. Protip: It can't, and not because those are exclusive

ClanPsi13032d ago

@letsa_go Why would anyone with a Switch... Why would anyone at all want to play Halo or Gears?

Shiken3032d ago (Edited 3032d ago )

@letsago

Well the Switch can do better than Uncharted 3 or The Last of Us easily. For a portable, that is damn impressive and leaves games potentially looking good after PS4 downgrades.

Your point falls flat my friend. No one is expecting it to run games at PS4 level, just to run them on the go.

This article is rife with inaccurate pricing. for example, Minecraft being $40 digitally... when its not? meh

joshljr3032d ago

While I agree with you on the incorrect pricing, the general theme of the article is accurate. I was looking through the marketplace just last night on the Switch and couldn't bring myself to purchase anything because it just didn't feel like good value.

gamer78043032d ago

the pricing is its only problem? I thought lack of online service, robust os, and lack of power when docked to be also issues.
