I think the choice is obvious. For the best gaming in the the universe,there is no choice more important than X.

It's a shame, because at one time last gen, MS showed some great potential. These days they don't even seem to have any interest in this area.

In 2013 Microsoft cut first party support for Xbox 360 and spent $1 billion on securing exclusives for Xbox One, yet four years later their latest console still comes up short in that department.

In fact with the way Spencer speaks they’ve only recently just started putting in more effort in producing more first party titles.

Sony definitely has more exclusives right now. I think it will slowly even out, Microsoft's Board in November just gave Phil the go ahead for a massive investment in game studios, both building them and acquiring them so they can build their exclusives. This will take some time but expect big announcements upcoming, probably first from acquired studios that have been working on games and years down the road as they build studios to create games.

More important than the sheer number of studios is the talent of the studios that Sony has. This video seems to undermined that fact a bit.

I'm pretty sure nobody in their right mind is arguing that Sony and Nintendo both have a worse first party line up than Microsoft and this is coming from a Xbox fanboy. I wish this site would just stick to news i like scrolling through and seeing new things but way to many "articles" like this.

Funny thing is Sony has many other close relationships with 2nd/3rd party studios that produce many great games.

Housemarque - Super Stardust, Resogun, Dead Nation, Alienation, Nex Machina, Matterfall

Ninja Theory - Heavenly Sword, Hellblade

Sega - Yakuza

Level 5 - Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, Ni No Kuni

Super Giant Games - Transistor, Pyre

These were off the top of my head, but they also have publisher relationships with Devolver, Atlus, and numerous Japanese pubs/devs. When u really start comparing the developer relationships and infrastructure the difference between Sony and Microsoft is staggering.

Sony studios are completely dominant in this area. The sheer volume of new games is amazing, it's all about the choice on the shelf PS4 brings compared to Xbox one..

I thought everyone already knew this. Microsoft never has and never will have the amount of studios Sony has. It's why Sony can pump out plenty of exclusives.

While I prefer sony’s First party titles, I guess we forget this subject is subjective. If we’re talking strictly numbers, Sony has without a doubt released more first party titles than MS this gen, but as far as quality and what’s the better title, that’s not a tangible thing like straight numbers.

Give me Sony for games and MS for everything else.

ALso how are you going to gloss over casual games like Sony doesn’t also pump those out? You said fellow gamers, that means casual included.

The thing I love most about Sony is that they know when to sit a IP down for a few years and or end them. For example I love Killzone, that whole series, shhh I bought a vita just to play Mercenaries lOl. However, them allowing the team to explore new possibilities because Killzone didn't sell as well as they thought it would've and they noticed the inflation in FPS games and fighting with Destiny, Titanfall, Battlefield, COD, Overwatch etc. isn't worth it especially when your only source of monetization is from the playstation community where those games will be bought on playstation and xbox, pc etc. I'm sure Killzone will come back out, but now that it's had that break since launch, it will be a fresh experience especially if they don't number it and call it Killzone: Something or Nother lOl, Because when someone see a game that is numbered they feel like they need to have played the previous games to understand it. My first Final Fantasy game was the last one that came out on the Playstation 4, because I don't like turn based games and didn't know that I didn't need to have played the other games to enjoy this one. Final Fantasy was one of my most favorite games shout out to Noctis being Sasuke reincarnated as well lOl.

But yeah, I buy a console for the exclusive experiences that I will have on them. I love Nintendo and Sony because they find a way to keep you a fan. Microsoft buys limited exclusive experiences and don't produced great indefinite exclusive experiences. Halo hasn't been good in years, GOW fell off of the map since GOW2 and Forza is the only game going strong for Microsoft however, the game doesn't sell good and I have Gran Turismo so I don't have the urge to buy a whole other console to experience that game. I doubt that Microsoft will continue taking the hit for developing Forza games, it won't surprise me if they were to let Turn 10 go much like how Sony did with Evolution Studios. Yes they made a great product, but that product isn't making money. This is a business, and that's the bottom line, yes it's pretty but does it make me rich? No okay then make something else that will or we aren't financing it.

The problem is that MS has spent the majority of their time in the console business, relying on paying third parties for exclusive, while most of their first party efforts were wasted on smaller scale titles like remakes and Kinect games. They didn’t fund their Studios to start AAA development from the getgo, so they didn’t gain the resources and talent over time to create truly masterful works.

Just look at a studio like Guerrilla Games; they started out making GBA titles, followed by a subpar FPS called Shellshock; now they’re on an open world RPG that has industry-defining graphics, and is already a GotY contender despite being only their first installement. Sucker Punch: they originally made a N64 title, followed by a relatively small game like Sly Cooper; now they’re developing an open world Samurai/ Ninja game that looks incredible. Same stories with Sony Bend, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, etc.

With Sony’s first party, they are the definition of Sic Parvis Magna: Greatness from small beginnings.

Wow an article on the difference yet all that is talked about from everyone is exclusives, well yeah Sony have been on top this gen if it's just that. There are a ton of other things where Nintendo and ms trump sony. I like Sony Because they risk sometimes and surprise, it works, i like MS because i game on PC and they have made that a pleasure with X controller.

How does this rambling mess of a video get so high on N4G? The premise of the video is fine, but the execution is pretty horrible.

Sonys studios are also extremely talented. Some of the visuals of their games are so good. Horizon zero dawn on a standard ps4 looks like a high end pc game. Some of the stuff coming over the next 2 years look spectacular too. While microsoft are talking about power, sony are the ones giving us some of the best looking games we've ever seen.

The point in the video is correct but it's not a good video. You should be able to find something else that highlights the differences more effectively than this video.

I seriously expect Microsoft to announce a TON of first party & third party Xbox exclusives at E3 2018. I think Microsoft got the message when the X launched and it was criticized for lack of exclusives. They really need to focus on the games if they wanna stay competitive from this point onwards. Sony might have slightly weaker hardware atm, but its cheaper and has a heap of great exclusives. Come on Microsoft!!!! Spend some of the big cash and get those games!

MicroShaft just sits around and waits for others to make the game then if they think it will be a good game they try to buy it ie,..Minecraft,TombRaider,Call Of Duty,Titanfall and now a one year exclusive on Battlegrounds.
They let others do all the hard work then try to throw a bunch of money at them when they are done.

All those studios are also always ready to help each other.

Sony Studios is by far superior because they made the difference in the delivery and quality in the library of exclusive titles. No one at this day doubts that fact.

For a company that a lot of hardcore Xbox fans hype to have more money than Sony and Nintendo they don't have any killer games anymore they say they don't rely on Halo Gears of War or Forza but they do.They went out and bought RARE and they RAREly make games 2 companies don't have the money Microsoft does but yet they're out banging games out left and right and even taking risks with new games. Microsoft game studios don't compare to the first party developers Nintendo and Sony have they really have no new ips and they fail to go with sequels to other games they already have out like Conker Perfect Dark Banjo Killer Instinct 3 would have been great. They're in a fight when it comes to first party games that they're never ever going to win cancelled games left and right isn't good Sony and Nintendo are both up for game of the year with more than one game.

Yet Xbox has more games I'm interested in. Sony is really good at creating niche exclusive games that no one buys.

I'm starting to view this as a good thing. At a certain point theres gotta be a sort of end to this where the industry sort of destroys itself to the point where a parallel, albeit smaller industry emerges filled with passionate game developers and publishers who hopefully aren't beholden to the scourge that is corporate shareholders and focus more on delivering quality games simply for the love of it. So long as the Devs are able to live comfortably and the studio is able to fund their next game(s) they can keep on going. We're already seeing these smaller more focused devs and publishers pop up and at a certain point especially with these mass exodus style layoffs we keep seeing I really do believe we're going to see more of this sooner than later.
