'Fallout 3' Could Change My Mind About Open-World Games

MTV Multiplayer writes: "Open-world games scare the crap out of me. I have no problem admitting that.

I passed on "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" and never finished a "Grand Theft Auto" game until the most recent one. Maybe that's why I enjoy games like "Mega Man 9? so much; too much choice scares me away.

It's with this attitude I spent four hours with Bethesda Softworks' latest, "Fallout 3," last week at a morning preview event in San Francisco. We were told to avoid the main quest; that's a secret. The mandate made me panic - the next four hours would be nothing but choice."

I bet this guy likes socialism... no choices

original seed6445d ago

Who stays away from games because he is scared to play them yet it's his job to preview games for his audience.

Statix6444d ago (Edited 6444d ago )

I sorta like socialism, when I choose it.

poeo6444d ago

i think you mean communism.

we have socialism in Finland, and have pretty much all the choices we could hope for.. i have chosen to not have a job and play videogames all day long lol. working out great for me!

chaosatom6445d ago

I mean it's a RPG/action so u have choices to go to cities u want. I don't want a open-world game, I want a great game with or without open world choices.

robotnik6445d ago

I think it's turn based... like Fallout 1 and 2, I could be wrong...

LevDog6445d ago

I was never a fan of these types of games, Until I played Oblivion.. Im kinda excited for this game.. Even though I will purchase it way after it comes out.. I already have to buy Socom, GF is buying LBP.. Then I have Resistance2 to buy.. Then I gotta find money for Motostorm2.. 4 exclusives.. Fallout I think is the only multi I want.. Deadspace hasnt sold me.. But Fallouts on the list.. Just on the Cant buy it right when it comes out list..

Statix6444d ago (Edited 6444d ago )

What a wuss. Seriously, who gets scared by exploration in a videogame?

xionpunk6444d ago

Well, I think he means that with so many options open its kind of overwhelming. Like with Oblivion, there is so much stuff to get sidetracked on that sometimes I just wanna get through the game. There's a certain satisfaction in having a clear goal and path to reach the end.

But, IMO oblivion is awesome for the same reason (never really get bored.), and I can't wait for Fallout 3.

schmeidenkamp6444d ago

yea you're right about that, but i also kind of agree w/ the author. sometimes in obliv it just got to be too much. too much crap means overwhelming, and not to mention the fact that the enemies scaled to you. still a good game tho

Would be nice if they had New Vegas ready as well, especially because of the show.

Hopefully this doesn't have the same performance issues as Oblivion Remastered.

cloganart141d ago

I haven't seen anything on these performance issues? What's been going on?

walken7141d ago

Probably the Unreal Engine issues, I skipped it for that reason.

Snookies12142d ago (Edited 142d ago )

Throw in all the DLC as well, like Oblivion and I'll definitely bite. I recall having one trophy left to unlock on the PS3 version with 100+ hours in my save. When my save file got corrupted, lol. Very sad day.

To be fair though, Bethesda was trash at Playstation ports anyway.

Michiel1989141d ago

all devs sucked at porting to ps3 for the first like 3 years because no one had experience with the cell architecture. Even 1st party took a long while to get proficient with it, the difference between uncharted 1 and 3 is massive for example.

Extermin8or3_142d ago

Oh oh oh I can do this too. GTA 7 will be made at some point in the future. Fallout 5 will enter development in the future too

jznrpg142d ago

Everyone there should know most gamers want New Vegas and Morrowind more than anything.

Christopher141d ago

Which is why we won't get them. Gotta keep floating "support this one and it might happen".

BlaqMagiq1142d ago

Can't wait. Won't have to go back to my PS3 to play this when it comes out.

Fallout 3 remastered on the Nintendo Switch 2 is what we deserve, not the worst Fallout game

Fallout Day's disappointing news that Fallout 4 is coming to Switch 2 is a shame, as this 17-year-old entry is more deserving of a new port.

Why exactly do you think you deserve it??

Phoenix76214d ago

Fallout 4 isn't the worst game in the franchise. It's either Fallout 76 or Fallout BOS that's the worst.

gigoran8213d ago

PC and all other modern consoles never got a remaster of 3, but obviously the switch 2 was the tipping point to make it a reality... ahuh

1nsomniac213d ago

Meh, I thought 3 was garbage. I'm not a great fan of the franchise to be fair. They're like B-Movie films, really shallow and janky. 4 was definitely one of the better ones though.

UltimateOwnage213d ago

So the article makes a snippy entitled statement and acts like that is going to encourage a publisher to give them what they want. Okay.

Give us FO3 with all the dlc remastered like ESO. Load times faster, quality of life improvements, gun play improvements

I believe it shouldn't just be graphical they should make improvements where they can to make the game better. A simple face lift isn't what's needed

ZeekQuattro401d ago

Still my favorite one. I remember getting a digital copy of FO3 when I got FO4(XBO). It was nice to finally play a stable version of the game. Then when I got a Series S it was an even better expierence. Quick resume and FPS boost made it feel like a whole new game. Updated gunplay would be very welcome though. One of the few things FO4 did better.
