I expect a downgrade also. But not by much. And the reason is simple. It's not a vertical slice. Digital Foundry has already confirmed it ran on actual Xbox One X hardware. There was also use of checkerboard rendering and other graphical sacrifices done to keep the frame rate stable.

A vertical slice used on events like E3 are pre-rendered bullshots. That are made to look it's best with zero flaws. That was not the case with Anthem.

I don't know entirely but Horizon looks more impressive graphically. Even so, I'm sure it'll look great, it's EA right? Frostbite is probably hands down the best multiplatform engine. Only engine to really make me feel from a multiplatform pov that games have gone to a next level.

Well duh it's part of the modern day AAA industry. Over promise under deliver but people buy it anyway so who cares.

Obviously the game will be downgraded for xbox one/PS4, but i fully expect these kind of visuals when the game is running on xbox one x/PS4 Pro

the game will definitely be downgraded, and by a lot. they showed what is their target. remember that we didn't get in the trailer big and epic fights which would tank the FPS so they still gotta tweak the game based on the worst case (storm + lots of enemies + explosions at max player count and etc.) which at the end will cause a massive drop in quality, i hope that next gen with a zen cpu (hopefully second or third gen) will allow for devs to push the games a lot more to what unity tried (like in DF's video).

That seems to be the norm lately with these developers,showing their game off which usually looks great & when it's finally released the graphics are downgraded.

the game has been in development for a few years now..it was rumored to release march 18 but I think they kicked it back to fall18.this game is almost done...I think they wanna pretty it up alittle more for the PC an one x to try an do a showcase...but we'll see..

Yeah, I think the final build of Anthem will have fewer particle effects, dark shadows, and lighting effects. I'm still getting a xb1x anyways.

Watching the whole "demo" was like the Division all over again. First off, nobody talks like that (at least the people I play with). And secondly, it just has that "Too good to be true" look to it. So I am expecting a significant change or reduction in scope when the game actually comes along.

It'll look great on 1x and the pro. Problem is people will cry because it won't look as good on the base models even though it was stated to be a showcase for the advanced one's

Mass Effect: Andromeda looks awesome in terms of Graphics even in Xbox One the weakiest console running the game. So, I think we will still get amazing graphics but not as shown and well get some different lightning, effects and downgrade as ME but not as Ubisoft downhell. Anthem looked so smooth and perfect and it impossible.

To state the game will be "downgraded" implies they stated the graphical resolution and frame-rate the game will launch at--which I'm pretty sure they didn't.

Which leads to the definition of downgrade to be "Getting something less than what we were shown". This is the insidious nature of platforms like E3. A company can get up on stage and use it to advertise without being held accountable by law. They can show a game running at 4K and 60FPS, generate pre-orders, then suddenly come out with "game will be locked at 30fps ". I mean the tactic obviously works rather well with mostly only the unmotivated core audience to shout foul into the abyss of the internet and buy the game anyway. All the large companies do this, and all it does is generate mistrust between corporate and the customers.

There's no denying that it's all scripted, and there's likely a huge downgrade incoming, but I still want to hope.

Maybe I'm alone in this view, but it looks like a well polished, believable, current gen game. This far into the generation, I don't see why all the doubt exists. This isn't Crysis. It looks like what we should be achieving on the latter end of the 8th generation.

This isn't news, and with the Pro and X1 I am sure it will look fine. I just want any PvP to be separate with option for 60 fps!

Why I am excited though is the return of the man who penned BG, ME 1&2, KotOR and SWtOR. A great Bioware story with evolved ME mp. A loot grind mixed with real endgame content.

My only worry is that which plagues every mmo, or shared world shooter! The ability to keep up with good endgame content. Companies ALWAYS underestimate the time it takes players to chew through the sp content they spent 5+ yrs working on. For many, it will be less than a month. It's best to have at least 1 years worth of additional content ready to go!

At the show everybody tries to sell their game the best way they can. Many takes the strategy to sell "AIR DOUGHNUTS". These tasty air dugnuts are likely to happen in a very important video game show like E3. This happened before and it will continue to happen in the future. BioWare knows that such 'place holder game play trailer' is not possible in the PS4 and the Xbox1. Their ambitions are impossible for this generation due to hardware physical limitations. With the PS5 and the next Xbox in 2020 we could see games of this sort since many software and the hardware will be ready to deal with large scale open world terrain and complex geometry. Today the current generation can't move that high quantity of polygons or provide a full accessible terrain at that level of detail. Compensations have to be made in order to sustain 60 frames per second or 30 frames per second performance.

Many "AIR DOUGHNUTS", the game Watch Dogs, provoked lots of disputes with the disparity with the final product in the past among many other notorious cases. This is part of the show. We have to know how to deal with the harsh reality. We know for sure that such downgrade is going to hit hard, very hard, on Anthem. We expect no less because what they showed is beyond the capabilities of the systems. Companies with experience in open world games like Rockstar* knows how hard it is to sustain a fair performance on consoles on large open world maps. We need to hit the ground and land our feet in reality. Everyone would like to see Anthem with those graphics, however those graphics belongs to the next generation hardware not the current one.

Star Citizen 42 or Beyond Good and Evil 2 would have tremendous downgrade if such games are released in current hardware.

And this matters because...? I will never understand this obsession with 'omg the pretty shiny'. If the graphics don't hurt the eyes and the gameplay is good, why does it matter that X blade of grass wasn't rendered in super HD 4k resolution.

I must point out that the game can't be downgraded until after it's released. If it's released looking good, and a patch a month later makes it look worse, then it got downgraded. Its initial release state sets the bar from which to upgrade or downgrade.

Let's not dilute the meaning of the word "downgrade" by applying it incorrectly, as here. Pre-release footage for public consumption routinely looks better than what you get in an actual game, like pictures of burgers in commercials always look better than what your local McDonald's hands you over the counter.
