In the future it might not be as it is now, but VR is the future of gaming! Once they solve many of the current inconveniences and solve the nausea thing so everyone can enjoy it with ease it will take off massively and some day no game will be released for 2D screens anymore...

Not if companies give up. Most VR ventures in the past failed because it wasn't immediately successful, and it got very little to no support, coupled with very poor marketing campaigns.

What we have no is a concerted effort to make it a reality. While I personally wouldn't expect it to be like we see VR be in silly television or movie representations, we're actually at a starting point of VR potentially becoming a mainstream reality.

MS is playing it safe, not smart. MS lost market share with Windows by playing it safe. If they played it smart, they wouldn't have abandoned their early efforts in the smart phone field, only to struggle to try and make headway in that market years later....to eventually fail. If MS played it smart, they would have refined and relaunched Zune to actually compete against iTunes and prevent Apple from becoming a mainstream success and further eating into their Windows sales.

Shall I go on with more examples of where MS played it safe, only to try and come in later and try to act like they were some innovator? The example of Zune above actually had MS with a better product, ad their smart phones when they came in late were actually pretty good until they basically gave up trying.

MS being in or out of VR will not determine the success of VR, and given that VR is going better than it ever has, it's very hard to call it a failed technology. MS opinion on VR at the moment is moot, because they are not trying to be a major player in the market. They want to capitalize on it, but right now, it seems like the only place they're even trying is with the sale of their controller with Occulus, which they get money for, and for marketing purposes to try and detract from Sony. Their efforts on PC are sufficient enough to allow it to be supported, but they aren't creating those technologies, they're simply implementing what other's have done.

It just proves that Microsoft is not an innovator, just a follower, a copy-cat and not a risk taker. They have more money than Sony, yet Sony is willing to innovate, take risk and further evolve the technology. They have that "somebody has to do it attitude" to succeed.

Apparently MS has no interest in promoting VR to the point of making it not be a gimmick. They will utilize the VR buzz to market their system, but when it comes time to deliver, they back peddle and say it's not ready? I guess when they get a working solution for X1X, which they said there would be, then VR will be ready and not a gimmick anymore?

If MS at this point can't care less about VR, why should they even be included in the conversation? What are they bringing to the table other than including VR implementations from others in DX, or selling their controller to occulus?

If Phil thinks that VR isn't ready, then it's time he stop talking about it. DX isn't in his division, and VR currently isn't part of Xbox, so the efforts of Windows team building API's to support technologies is not his purview. His opinion on the matter mean nothing until they're ready to bring something to the table. His opinions mean nothing so long as MS itself can't care to push the technology to the point of being a player in the VR field. All he's doing is holding back the potential success of VR by saying that it's not good enough, or that it needs to be better.

MS collaboration on VR right now seems purely out of necessity to get support on Windows, and for them to implement VR technologies in Halolens.

PSVR, and other PC solutions work fine. They may not be earth shattering in terms of graphics, but they do what VR is supposed to do, and that's immerse the player and give new ways to play. It's on the ground floor, and while I understand there are those who want more before diving in, those anecdotal instances mean nothing to the overall success or relevance of the technology itself.

Because is about business and for now it doesn't worth the effort.

I read a few articles a while ago about the console getting update software to be able to address VR in a more efficient way. I just think they wait for it to be ready and it's supposed to be next year. Until then they sort of keep quiet as in looking like they do when they want to.

Lol, now that's some great mental gymnastics right there. Not only is the Xbox One X more powerful than the PS4 Pro but if they do support Xbox One X it will not be handicapped like it is on the PS4 Pro. Which explains why we are seeing GT Sport with one on one races and Driveclub with less cars onscreen. Sony has done a pretty bad job promoting PS4 Pro up until now and PSVR solidifies that because Sony mandates the regular PS4 gets the same content. The Xbox One S is unlikely to ever get VR support as its even weaker than the regular PS4 but if they did VR for Xbox One X at least it would be providing a much greater overall experience.

The headsets generally do 120fps. Not 30 or 60. Which is why graphics take a hit

I never said that, I said it would offer a better experience over PSVR because of two factors. One is the system is moreb powerful than both the PS4 and Pro, are you going to deny that? Secondly Microsoft is likely never going to support the Xbox One S with VR which means we wont get the same parity Sony puts onto Pro users to accomodate regular PS4 systems, are you going to say no to that too?

We also don't know what type of VR it will support, Oculus, Vive and so on. All we know is Sony wants to keep its walled garden totally closed off but will allow games to be crossplayed with PC users but won't open it up for PSVR on the PC or support outside VR headsets, now that's cute!

In summary you are trying way too hard to upsell Playstation all the time at the expense of the Xbox, nothing new here.

And like so many other ventures in computing, MS will not be considered the go to purveyor of the technology.

It's not smart business, it's safe business. It keeps them from having to take risks, but means they have to take more time being seen as relevant to the market. If MS didn't have Windows, their place in technology would be a string of failures, because using Windows is the only way they seem to be able to make their products relevant. Even then, about half of them never gain the respect that their competitors receive, and their products become after thoughts to the general consumer.
