Microsoft "won" the E3 coverage race

With the curtains already closed for E3, the company that runs a yearly analysis of E3’s coverage statistics, ICO Partners, just released the numbers today. In the blog post by Thomas Bideaux, ICO Partner’s CEO, it shows that Microsoft “won” the E3 coverage race in this year’s E3.

Good Job Microsoft you deserve it.

Miss_Weeboo3238d ago

Ok. So, the problems I see with the XBOXONEX: (other than the name) is too expensive.
Is not even 500 bucks, it's in the thousands, cause u need also a 4k TV.
4kTV's are gonna be cheap like in 4 years from now (maybe 3)
You could buy one with your regular set, but what's the point?
And what u gonna buy all that for? to play cuphead? (Which btw looks so cute!
I'd buy that game cause I absolutely love old 40's cartoons)
It has no games. It was so boring... Do you think people care about Teraflops?
They didn't sold the device.

Why would u want to get a PS4pro?... is cheaper, and yeah u also need a 4ktv ; not really but,
let's say u don't have one: still better performance than regular PS4, definitely better performance
for PSVR, and tons and tons of games, exclusives: sony exclusives and 3rdP exclusives, and 3rdP non exclusives,
and indies...

Kiwi663238d ago

Only to a few it is as for everyone else not so much

Brave_Losers_Unite3238d ago

Smh there are multiple 4ktvs under 400

Aenea3238d ago

Yikes, would be a waste of money to play games on One X or Pro on a cheap ass 4k TV!

It's either too small or doesn't have a 10-bit panel or both...

gamer78043238d ago

Wrong, you don't "NEED" a 4K tv, you can still take advantage of supersampling and games going from 720-900p to 1080p.

Wrong, 4K TVs are already cheap, you can get a 55" 4K HDR tv for around 550 bucks (i got mine on a double discount deal for 435$)

Wrong, Would buy it for Gears, Forza H3, Forza, Killer Instince, Minecraft HDR 4K, and lots of 3rd party games like Shadow of War etc.

Wrong, "They didn't sold the device" (grammatical errors incomprehensible present-past tense and bad pronoun reference)

PSPro is cheaper, and there are similar reasons go with that but you don't get as much of a resolution and effects bump and no 4k bd drive. Sony does have more AAA exclusives right now is correct.

4Sh0w3238d ago (Edited 3238d ago )

MegaGirl.....please, please tell me you are studying English and this was your first public attempt to actually communicate with humans(If so I forgive you) OR you are freakin wasted on some unkown substance that would put an elephant down(If so, dont touch the keyboard for a week, go to bed) because that post actually made my head hurt.

OT, Despite the accolades personally I was just very dissapointed with the lack of C3 destruction gameplay and absence of 1 or 2 big AAA announcements....other than that the hardware reveal was a huge plus and the variety of games was cool.

Chriscrinkle183238d ago

Just FYI @4Sh0w there is still destruction in the campaign but it's limited. This was always the case, back when it was announced in 2015 the destruction shown was for MP only so they could draw on extra servers to allow that level of destruction to happen. IGN did a video with one of the developers that showed the level of destruction on MP and it's crazy.

Miss_Weeboo3238d ago

Hi! No. Of course: English is not my main language (not even the second one). But in my defense, I didn't try my best, (Is really hard 4Show! Whenever I do it, takes a long time to find the mistakes and correct them) I guess you were able to understand what I was saying... but I'll try to be more careful in the future, specially with this sort of articles... I find people to be a little jumpy with this articles...

4Sh0w3238d ago (Edited 3238d ago )

MegaGirl,

Well now I feel like a real big A-hole. My apologies, I was being sarcastic about studying English, I actually assumed you were one of those random keyboard warriors who just don't pay attention to what they are typing or worst the guys who think they are too cool to speak regular English. That's what I get for assuming and trying to be funny. Hey, I appreciate the reply and actually I wish I could speak several languages, I know a little Spanish and Japanese but not enough to really hold a conversation so all things considered you're language skills are a lot better than mine. Again my apologies and I hope to hear more from in the future.

Chriscrinkle18,

Thanks, for the info. I follow Crackdown3 so yeah, I knew already knew the destruction was for the online multi to use the cloud, my only point was that it was gaming's biggest event (E3) and with the it releasing in Nov they should have showcased that for C3.

andrewsquall3237d ago

@Chriscrinkle18 OKAY, WE GET IT, some people keep making that mistake of bringing up the destruction. That doesn't excuse the fact it looked like a last gen game with abysmal running animations and blurry textures and all while in an empty looking lifeless city that looks like it will always be one fixed time of day too.

YOU DON'T NEED A 4K TV

The 1X supersamples the image.

Basically your 1080p footage will look even cripser and will enjoy less aliasing.

Regarding the games:

XBOX has its own set of exclusives. Yes they are not what Sony has but thats why its different. Get a Sony console for the Sony ones.

Also all 3rd party games will look and perform better on the 1X. If you look at statistics on most played games, most hours spent on games, highest number of players on games etc. It's usually 3rd Party games. Overwatch, Fifa, Destiny, Division, BF1, GTA V, ETC ETC

zivtheawesome3238d ago

i am surprised the difference is less than 400 TBH. sony annoucned 2 games with one being exlcusive while MS announced a console. you would expect coverage to be a lot higher.

Elda3238d ago (Edited 3238d ago )

Imo it really didn't win E3 at all,nor Nintendo or Sony though the later 2 kept it safe. For starters I was hoping their show would have captured my interest in buying one.Not every game will run in native 4k,Crackdown 3 reveal was the graphics were gimped/dumb down,a new Forza of course,no new original interesting exclusives shown & the rest were multi-plats & lackluster indies with a 500 dollar price tag for a mid gen XBOX. Sorry...no way.

showtimefolks3238d ago

personal preference to be honest UBI had the best conference games wise for me followed up by sony and bethesda

that whole 42 games and using world exclusive console launch and using the word exclusive in general in deceiving ways wasn't good by MS. 42 games yet nothing we didn't know already besides metro

morganfell3238d ago

The only reason I cannot give Ubi the win is quite simple, and I love Far Cry and Splinter Cell (which wasn't there). And that simple reason is history. Their damned lying and deceptive history and anyone that gives them the win without waiting for them to deliver what they showed in a final form is not helping gamers or the industry at all.

The 10th Rider3238d ago (Edited 3238d ago )

Yeah, I mean I thought they showed some cool looking games and all but their history is sketchy. Watch Dogs looked pretty amazing when they first showed it and ended up being a decent game, but nothing particularly special. For Honor looked pretty cool as well, but now it's struggling to keep a decent userbase. Then of course there's the whole Assassin's Creed Unity fiasco.

It's just hard to get excited for much of anything Ubisoft related anymore. I feel like we're better off waiting for the games to come out and see how they're received before heaping them with praise. They certainly have released a few gems over the years, but they've also had a good chunk of misses.

morganfell3238d ago

@10th,

Agreed. I have no issue giving them a retroactive attaboy award. But they have shafted gamers so many times it is our turn to make them prove themselves for a change. You want my money Ubi? Earn it.

The 10th Rider3237d ago

I feel like most gamers around here either have short term memory loss or aren't that old.

In 2012 a lot of people praised Ubisoft's conference as the best. They showed Far Cry 3 and Rayman Legends, which probably ended up being the best games they showed that year. Outside of that Splinter Cell: Blacklist had been announced, Assassin's Creed 3 was shown off, Zombi U was shown, and they ended with the biggest surprise of E3 that year: Watch Dogs. Most of those ended up being disappointments.

At this point I'm not even particularly excited for Beyond Good and Evil 2. If one of their games comes out and it's great, good for them, I may pick it up. However I'm not going to get hyped for anything Ubisoft related until they can prove they're not going to let us down.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio3d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing3d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster923d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit3d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing3d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster922d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn25d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn24d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown5d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay4d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay4d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac4d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger5d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster30005d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde5d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde4d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".
