Mass Effect: Andromeda is currently unplanned for Switch

Last year, EA said one of the publisher's big games is planned to come to the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, Mass Effect: Andromeda is not "that" game.

Bioware didn't say it was impossible for the future though which I suppose means its more of a demand problem rather than a Specs problem which is something I guess. It'd be interesting to see if the Switch could run a scaled down version of Andromeda, cus its on UE4, probably could

rjason123459d ago (Edited 3459d ago )

Yeah, people underestimate Nintendo hardware and it's capabilities.

Edit- obviously they don't put out hardware as strong as the other two, but Nintendo are still able to make great looking games with what they have.

Edit 2- @phunky for one, all we have are rumors to go on, two, the hardware isn't "old", three power does not dictate how old hardware is.

OrangePowerz3459d ago

Really? I'm seeing quite the opposite here on N4G with people thinking a handheld won't be far behind the current consoles when it comes to hardware power.

Phunkydiabetic13459d ago

The hardware is old. It is underpowered. Just like the Wii and WiiU.

Artemidorus3459d ago

If you are going with 4K with that statement then you are in for disappointment bar retro remakes.

gamer78043459d ago

imagine what they could do with a properly powered console and a robust network.

Garethvk3459d ago

I would not want my game scaled down. Look how many diminished titles were scaled back for the Wii. One had to omit an entire level. This cost them when the Wii U came around. With so many PS4, PC, and Xbox One systems out I can see more publishers saying we will wait and see or simply no to the Switch especially if it means limiting your game.

EddieNX 3459d ago (Edited 3459d ago )

To have a portable version of Mass effect Andromeda it would have to be scaled down. It wont limit their game, Mass effect Andromeda is on UE4 so maybe at 720p it will run fine on Switch, I mean the people at Bioware said maybe in the future and they obviously know the specs, they didnt say it wouldnt run on switch. Everything is rubbish compared to maxed out ultra settings on a PC by your logic as well. We all want Maxed out ultra settings but thats not realistic, especially on a Nintendo tablet .

The gap between the Wii and 360/ps3 was HUGE the gap between Switch and Xbox one, absolutely tiny compared to the game between the Wii and 360. Keep an open mind, the Switch might be a bit more capable than you think.

_-EDMIX-_3459d ago

"it wont limit their game,"

But you don't know that for sure, they might be using Unreal Engine 4, but they're also using 8 gigs of RAM for this game in mind..

OrangePowerz3459d ago (Edited 3459d ago )

Eddie, the amount of scalling down models, environments, effects, physics, etc. to run on a handheld would be limiting the game and it's not something that can be marketed either. If you show the downgraded version next to the "normal" version nobody will buy your downgraded version. Yes a game running on max settings on OC looks better than the console version, but in things like advertisements it wouldn't be a huge difference to the average consumer. The gap between a handheld game and one that's running on consoles would be quite obvious to your average consumer. So you are stuck with a downgraded version that your can't really advertise because compared to the other versions it looks like crap.

Also what gives you the idea Andromeda runs on UE4, the game uses Frostbite.

Phunkydiabetic13459d ago

Dude. Nintendo is pulling the same shit they have for two decades. Expect some initial third party support that will drop off very soon after launch. Then it will be the same typical dribble of games like it has been for nearly all Nintendo do systems since the N64. There is a near zero chance that Mass Effect Andromeda is coming to the Switch.

The Mass Effect that was released on WiiU sold horribly, that isn't exactly going to spur EA on to port this one over to the Switch....

Aloy-Boyfriend3459d ago

Why you keep mentioning UE4? Even phones run that engine. It is nothing special. Besides, that does not guarante a game could run just fine on Switch

EddieNX 3459d ago

Okay well anyway, Bioware have said not at launch but haven't ruled it out in future, which I think you will find suggests that they think it could run on Switch. Its more to do with with demand than specs which is what I initialy said.

OrangePowerz3459d ago

It's not on UE4. Andromeda runs on Frostbite.

EddieNX 3459d ago

Fair enough I just assumed it would be UE4 cus the trilogy was on UE3

The_Sage3459d ago

Actually, Eddie... Mass Effect Andromeda runs on Frostbite 3, not Unreal Engine 4.

Has there ever been a Frostbite game on a Nintendo Console?

XStation4pio_Pro3459d ago (Edited 3459d ago )

people are already trying to wish for and justify the lack of power and the console isn't even out yet... how can that possibly be a good sign? why would people look forward to a "scaled down version" of a brand new game on a brand new console that hasn't even launched yet when the game will run "at full scale" on consoles that were released 3 years ago and have even better graphical support for mid-console refreshes... this is the very essence of my problem with nintendos hardware these days and the resulting lack of 3rd party support. even if the switch was as powerful as the base ps4, it will be competing with the ps4 pro which has literally twice the GPU of the base and Scorpio which has more than a full ps4 of gpu power stacked on the PS4 Pro's power.

rjason123459d ago (Edited 3459d ago )

PS4 pro, and Scorpio will not be the main models it competes with, everything will be built for the base models (both companies have even said that there will be no exclusives to the upgraded system).

And using that logic, why develop for Sony at all since Scorpio is more powerful? May as well only develop games on the most powerful system.

Plus it won't be as noticeable as people think since the screen is small compared to a regular tv screen, resolution doesn't need to be as high. Portability is a plus to many people, that's why some want it on the Switch. This is not the same as games running on the Wii compared to the competition, the gap is much smaller then it was there.

XStation4pio_Pro3459d ago

@rjason12:

ok...so the Switch is going to be less powerful than the less powerful versions of current mid cycle refresh consoles... and they want to attract new customers and third party support... seems they're off to a great start..... competing for the lowest common denominator. i dunno - to each their own but I already bought the Pro and I definitely plan on buying Scorpio, i didn't take the switch seriously for even a second.... i was mildy curious to see if nintendo would do something good this time but the second i saw that announcement trailer I instantly checked out. after everything I have read about it since then only solidifies my opinion.

Derceto3459d ago (Edited 3459d ago )

It probably has better chance of coming out on PS2 than Switch. Switch is DoA. Another failed disaster console by Nintendo. That makes 3 now.

gedden73459d ago (Edited 3459d ago )

I believe this will change, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

_-EDMIX-_3459d ago (Edited 3459d ago )

That is a very bad sign, it is very telling of the titles that Electronic Arts might consider even bringing over.

Smh.

Nintendo's going to need to extend themselves a bit further to third-party for support, But ultimately I believe they're probably going to be okay because they're going to rely on Japanese support like they did for 3DS so I believe they'll probably be ok even without major third parties from console.

I expect titles like Bravely Default, MonsterQuest, Professor Layton etc

I expect their library and their support to be extremely similar to what it was with their previous Portables.

So this is bad if anyone's expecting the level of support being given to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One or PC, but I believe they're going to get the same level of support they got with their previous Portables so they should be ok, for their core install base of fans but anyone expecting new consumers is likely going to be disappointed.

For All Its Flaws, Mass Effect: Andromeda's Approach to Romance is Something ME4 Can Learn From

While Mass Effect: Andromeda was let in several key areas, one of its approaches to romances is something Mass Effect 4 should consider revisiting.

I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.

anast521d ago (Edited 521d ago )

Mass Effect 4 should just make Mass Effect 1 but better with current tech. Fans would be happy. As far as romance, they should take notes from the Witcher and Cyberpunk.

Ristul521d ago

Later Bioware games have to little build up. You can have a normal conversation and all of a sudden BAM! The character you talk to becomes super flirty.

TricksterArrow520d ago

Reminds me of Baldur’s Gate. I wanted to practice some magic and Gale made it super weird. Not even gonna mention Astarion.

gold_drake520d ago (Edited 520d ago )

iii dunno about that.

the only really great and funny dating partner, is that outlaw guy anyways haha he was funny as hell.

other than that, i found every character to be very annoying.

Shout out to Keri the Asari reporter. Current relationship status be damned as she's game either way. Anything for a good story. 🤣

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast562d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine562d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast562d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman562d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast562d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

it's like bitch but your shirt back on, your not blue or spikey get away from me

BioWare Thinks Mass Effect Andromeda Was Better Game Than Reception Suggested

BioWare thinks Mass Effect: Andromeda was a better game than what reception suggested; taught the studio not to shoehorn open-world without any meaningful content in it.

I played it and it wasn't as bad as people said. Is it in the 8-10 range? No.

It's a 6-7, which means it's a solid game.

LordoftheCritics597d ago (Edited 597d ago )

Veilguard and Andromeda are of similar level to me.
6 to 6.5 ish

Though I think i enjoyed Andromeda's combat and sense of scale a little bit more.

XBManiac597d ago

Veilguard has better graphics.

neutralgamer1992597d ago

I agree with you It was a 6.5 type game. Gameplay was solid everything else was lacking. Playing at launch with all the issues was just absurd. EA could have let the developers keep patching and fix the game but they stopped just like they did with anthem. It’s crazy to think multi billion dollar publishers can’t afford to keeping patching their games get medium size developers can support the game for years

But when you have android wilson running the company what else can we expect.

OtterX597d ago

Except 6-7 doesn't translate as solid. 6 means a bit flimsy, but still good/enjoyable if you can look past the flaws. 7, a little less flimsy, and enjoyable. 8-10 would be "solid".

But I get your point. I skipped the game entirely, so I don't have an opinion on it.

H9597d ago

I played this game back when I wanted to give every game I bought a fair chance and finish it, it was the reason why I stopped doing so, god the game was bad

TheNamelessOne597d ago

I actually enjoyed Andromeda. It wasn't a 10/10, by any means, but I played it years after the fact, after a lot of patching, and I had a good time with it.

anast597d ago

Same, I enjoyed it too. I might even replay it soon.

TheNamelessOne597d ago

Might do the same, honestly. Went through the trilogy a couple months back.

raWfodog597d ago

I liked it as well, and also played it for the first time over a year after it was released. The original trilogy was a better story overall IMO but I still enjoyed Andromeda.

lellkay597d ago

The game is so unbelivably bad, it's laughable.

pwnmaster3000597d ago (Edited 597d ago )

It really wasn’t. Well for me nd I’m a big fan of the series.
Was it mass effect standard? No
But overall I thought it was a decent game.
6-7/10.

Armaggedon597d ago

You might want to try playing a truly bad game. Go boot up two worlds or gollum to get the perspective you need

MatrixxGT597d ago

Wow, two worlds…red ringed my 360.

Armaggedon597d ago

Lol. Its one of the only games that I have experienced buyers remorse with. The only one I can think of is riders Republic.

matt139597d ago

So delusional, the title was an embarrassment to the original trilogy. it’s the equivalent of 2042 to the battlefield franchise.

thorstein597d ago

2042 had a redemption arc and what exists now is a pretty good FPS.
