EA Should Stop Doing E3 Live Conferences

Rich Drummond of Gaming Tech United writes:

"For the gaming community, E3 is a great time of the year. New games are announced, games that we are waiting for are showed off, and leaks tell us things before the companies have a chance to on stage. One of the major companies that gives an E3 live presentation is EA and to say it nicely, their presentation this year was plain garbage. Simply put, after this year’s conference EA should withdraw from doing E3 presentations in the future."

Essentially all I'm hearing is E3 should just end more and more every year. Yet, people line up to experience the event and would probably complain if it didn't exist.

GamingTechUnited3620d ago

Like the article says, EA should continue this EA Play event. It's a great way to interact with their consumers and show the public things, but I doubt many would complain if EA pulled out of the live show itself. All their announcements could happen through trailers and social media posts and I'm sure no one would really mind.

Christopher3620d ago (Edited 3620d ago )

Yeah, but no sense in paying higher costs to do those at E3 when they can do them for cheaper at other locations and even at different times when costs for doing it are lower. The only reason they do the conference at all is for marketing purposes with the media, otherwise the rest of the stuff they stream can be done anywhere.

GamingTechUnited3620d ago

@Chris That's the thing though. They DON'T have to do EA Play at E3. They can do it off location somewhere in California at a rented out space. IF they were to do that, live stream any HUGE announcements from there, and not do a live show, I doubt people would complain.

I do think its important to do it DURING the week of E3, though. There's always more interest in video games and video game news this week, so holding it during E3 week guarantees the attendance and stream viewership is higher than it would be any other week.

Christopher3620d ago

I guess we agree, just we came at it from different angles.

GamingTechUnited3620d ago

@Chris

Haha I think we do! Hey, great minds think alike!

Relientk773620d ago

It would be wonderful if EA just didnt show all the sports stuff, but no they again had to waste 30 mins of my time with sports again.

Atleast the sports segments didn't last as long as last years.

Christopher3620d ago (Edited 3620d ago )

Marketing/stakeholders need to see that stuff, though.

What was sad for me is that the stuff I actually wanted to see (ME and SW) were pretty much just filler material with nothing worthwhile or substantial.

GamingTechUnited3620d ago

As long as EA is making millions upon millions through the Ultimate Team modes in FIFA and Madden, you're going to be hearing about those games every time EA gets on stage. Haha. That's just business. Is it always entertaining? No (looking at you, Pele), but I can guarantee the higher ups demand it.

"It would be wonderful if EA just didnt show all the sports stuff" ?

Don't run a business bud. Your comment makes very little sense in regards to why they would not market a part of their company that makes them some of the most money.

JackBNimble3619d ago

I buy ea games for easports and that's about it. What's the problem with easports at E3?

It really sucks that we got teased so hard with the Mass Effect and Star Wars stuff. I knew the SW games would be far out, but by the looks of it, the ME game is gonna be farther out too. :\

GamingTechUnited3620d ago

I was very shocked we didn't at least get a release date. Can't believe they didn't at least shoot one out at the end there.

MatrixxGT3620d ago

I'd rather not get a date than to get a date only to keep getting pushed back.

_-EDMIX-_3619d ago

Not sure that would be wise if they don't feel its shaping up the way they feel.

Iberius3620d ago

If it makes you feel better, I expect we will see a lot more Mass Effect stuff on N7 day (November 7). I still think there is a chance Mass Effect is pretty far along (like Alpha stage) and they will give it a dedicated little conference.

I could still be totally wrong though, but I haven't given up all hope on it hitting a March release quite yet.

Joe9133620d ago

I Wonder how much they can say about SW stuff if games are canon stories. Disney has it's own SW event like With battle front they announced and showed a lil at e3 but I think they showed more at that years SW event.

Iberius3620d ago

It would help a great deal if EA didn't announce their games so far out when the developers are nowhere near ready to show their game.

Servbot413620d ago

"Here's a new Star Wars game! It's coming... sometime in the next five years... well, we haven't even named it yet. Please be excited."

_-EDMIX-_3619d ago

EA still needs to market their games.

If they want to reveal titles years in advance, pretty sure they are free to.

Did you die because of it? LOL!

When you are spending millions and millions on development, pretty sure more exposure is better then less.

Iberius3619d ago

EA is free to do whatever they would like with what they own, but I think they would generate way more hype and good will if they waited until Bioware and their other devs (Visceral) had something real to show.

At that point they can give us something more substantial than a second teaser trailer and it makes the game easier to market.

But yes I am aware marketing is critical, and I am still kicking after such a pathetic conference, much to my surprise.

_-EDMIX-_3619d ago

"but I think they would generate way more hype and good will if they waited until Bioware and their other devs (Visceral) had something real to show"

Those teams are not flipping the bill for those games funding though. They still need to market and this is simply a business move.

Who is not getting Mass Effect based on this? Who is buying games based on reveal?

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio12d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing12d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit12d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing12d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
