Quantum Break for PC Is Yet Another Disappointment from Microsoft

"We've tried Quantum Break for PC and it has several issues, unfortunately, such as bad performance, aliasing and blurry textures."

and just last night we had this awesome credible 10/10 review for the pc version
http://n4g.com/news/1887739...

also, thanks microsoft.i cant wait to see what you port next.

marioJP873691d ago

Haha. I read the review last night and was like 'SMH' because be didn't mention his rig or settings.

starchild3691d ago (Edited 3691d ago )

Ok, I clicked on the article and it turns out he's using 2 gtx 980ti in SLI, which is obviously a very powerful rig. On the other hand, SLI is pretty hit and miss (which is why I don't personally use it), so it might just be that the drivers are borked for SLI.

The only other possible explanation for that much stutter would be if the game has serious performance issues on the CPU side of things. But others, like PC World are reporting good performance. So what's going on here?

Yes, it's demanding, anybody with a brain knew it would be, so if you're running it on midrange hardware of course it won't run at high framerates.

I'm seeing some conflicting reports about the PC version.

I just don't take anything at face value anymore. There have been quite a few examples of games that some claimed were "poorly optimized" that ran well on my PC. And I'm a pretty picky and discerning individual.

Often I see these kinds of reports from inexperienced PC gamers who don't understand the graphics tech involved and who have the idea that just because they bought a "gaming PC" every game should run at max settings and at a flawless framerate. I need to see some better analysis from sites I trust more.

Yeah tis a shame...

Ah well..Xbox version it is then for the definitive version. For now..

Crimzon3691d ago

I can't decide if it's more hilarious or depressing that what you said actually is fact. Knowing that a high-end PC with incredibly powerful GPU/CPU can't run this anywhere near as smoothly as the Xbox One is just baffling, to be honest. I can't even figure out how something like that happens unless you intentionally go out of your way to make the PC version have poor performance, but it seems to be a common theme among these UWAs.

I was glad to hear that Microsoft was bringing Xbox games to PC and abandoning GFWL but everything about this initiative has been disastrous so far. They lost me when they locked all of this stuff behind Windows 10 which I refuse to upgrade to, and now it's looking like I haven't missed out at all. It's stupid really because if they stopped messing around and actually supported PC properly (which make sense since it's their main product and ecosystem) they'd make a lot of cash, but at this point it's almost as if they're deliberately sabotaging their own efforts. I can't make sense of it.

Volkama3691d ago

To be fair, the blurring and aliasing are present in the console version. Those are problems in the context of a person who usually games at 4k. Performance is the bigger concern.

Hopefully within a few weeks we'll see further driver improvements and patches get the framerate up to snuff. I hear Gears has improved a lot since release. AMD's game-ready driver claims a 30% increase in performance for this game already, so there is a glimmer of hope.

Godmars2903691d ago

@Crimzon:
No. This is another case of a game optimized for a single platform running less that perfectly, much less better, on non optimized systems. Multiple platforms that operate under a unified OS, but are different for any number of reasons including hardware.

This has always been an issue with PCs, yet PC gamers refuse to admit it.

gangsta_red3691d ago

And yet...

http://www.pcworld.com/arti...

Who to believe, the good news or the bad news?

AngelicIceDiamond3691d ago

X1 version it is considering that's the main platform they built it on with little to no probs.

Christopher3691d ago

From that PC World article: "The good news is the game runs preeeeeetty well for me thus far, though others have reported some performance issues."

So, they kind of confirm what this article is saying and he's just saying he didn't have any issues on his specific setup.

This is the problem with PC games. Do you need it to only run smoothly once for it to be 'not a problem' or do we say if it's not running at a specific level that it is a problem? I know based on the author's specs listed, it wouldn't run well on my PC.

gangsta_red3691d ago

@Christopher

"So, they kind of confirm what this article is saying and he's just saying he didn't have any issues on his specific setup."

So he kind of hints at a little of what this article is about and yet with no sensationalism and extreme exaggeration for a title and bulk of the story.

I hardly call that a confirmation.

I'm upset because I never received the PC version (Crossbuy) after getting the game for the Xbox one

Errorist763691d ago

As far as I know you will have to wait 10 days until you get it. You have every right to be upset though...what a shady tactic!

ShadowKnight3691d ago (Edited 3691d ago )

Dude they changed it. It was supposed to release the code the same day. Now I have to wait 10 days smh. They should have clarify that in the beginning

Anomander3691d ago

I thought they said the Win10 code would go out the week of the 5th when the game launched. I'm a bit pissed that MS waited so long to get the Code sent out since I would like to be able to try the crossplay out between the X1 and PC and see how well it picks up.

dreadz743691d ago

LMao this guy does not know what he is doing been watching PC streams all day game is running fine. They also just released new drivers for AMD this is his setup not credible man when evry other review says PC version runs fine aside from win store issues not sli, forced vsync etc.

ITPython3691d ago

Guess I'm glad M$ made it so difficult for PC gamers to actually buy and play this game (only M$ could make it difficult for you to throw money at them). I was willing, eager and ready. But no, buying a game should be as convoluted and inconvenient as possible, right M$? And also forcing us to buy the XB1 version to get the PC version? No thanks, I'd rather not artificially pad your XB1 sales numbers to make the game seem like less of a flop on your failing console.

This is one huge reason why I am not a fan of digital only, as you are a slave to whoever is offering that digital content. You have absolutely no choice in how you buy or play it. I will ALWAYS get a physical copy of a game if I can, but it really sucks that physical copies of PC games seems to no longer exist (at least for newer games).

Oh well, I'll wait until this hits Steam. And I realize the consensus right now is that it will never come to Steam, but I'm pretty sure M$ doesn't hate money, and they are losing out HUGE by not allowing it to be sold on Steam. It will be there in a few months after it's "Windows store exclusivity" ends, hopefully it's discounted too.

But with that said, screw you M$. You never fail at continuing to ruin gaming. Wish they would GTFO of the industry already.

crazychris41243691d ago

Here we go again. First Gears remaster now this. They are not going to sell a lot of copies on PC if the games takes months after launch to fix and the Windows store has little flexibility. This is why I don't buy launch anymore. Tired of being their guinea pigs. I'll wait till it's fixed and gets a sale.

Alexious3691d ago

Yes. It would have been preferable to delay the game, for sure.

Sciurus_vulgaris3691d ago (Edited 3691d ago )

The are doing quicky ports, which will in no shape or form benefit the gaming division at MS.

Alexious3691d ago

Indeed, they're damaging their own effort this way.

Erik73573691d ago

You can actually sell a lot of copies for a game on PC if it's a good port...

kraenk123691d ago

Tomb Raider port was terribly optimised as well!

starchild3691d ago

Huh? It runs extremely well for how good it looks. You must have a terrible PC or something is seriously wrong with it.

iistuii3691d ago

It runs perfect on mine. It all depends if little Tommy is trying to max it out on his dads 5 year old Dell, which is usually the case when these people start crying about performance..

And this is why I didn't purchase Quantum Break for PC. I hope they fix the game with patches in the next few days/weeks.
Windows store is a big disappointment.

Alexious3691d ago

Indeed. I hoped they had learned the lesson of Games for Windows Live...

SniperControl3691d ago

Damn, i was going to buy it today but baulked at the 50 quid ms are asking for.

I'll wait till they drop the price and fix the game before i buy.

Chris_Wray3691d ago

And this is why Microsoft will never be able to control the PC market. UWP stops mods being made to fix the bad ports, so the bad ports are left lingering on the MS store.

343_Guilty_Spark3691d ago

Well that is lie. UWP is just a platform for distributing games across multiple ecosystems. In theory a PS4 game could be made under UWP. Now whether a developer decides to go the sandboxed app wrapper style or the regular .exe that's up to them, but do not spread lies and misinformation.

Aenea3691d ago

Ehmm, MS said that they will allow some mods in the future with UWP, currently it's not possible. So I don't see that as a lie by Halbarad, mods can't fix it now and it's uncertain they will allow mods to fix these types of issues.

Then what you say about UWP is just plain wrong. It's not a platform to distribute games, it's an API to code against (instead of the regular Win API) which the dev. environment, at link time, turns into a new(er) executable format that can be run on more than 1 platform that runs Windows 10.

PS4 does not run Windows 10, but am sure you knew that, so no, one can't even in theory make a game for PS4 under/with UWP since it then will have OS system calls to the UWP layer and not PS4's own OS.

So, who is the one spreading lies and misinformation?

Christopher3691d ago

***Well that is lie. ***

It's placing the blame on the wrong thing, but it's not really a lie. Windows Store games do not allow mods. It's not because of UWP, but because of their ecosystem that utilizes UWP.

Single A games and live service games. Those make sense

S2Killinit789d ago

None of it makes sense. But its happening.

Ps5conehead789d ago

That’s up to Microsoft they want return on there investment. From buying up those publishers. That’s what there in business for. And they made a mistake putting day one exclusive on game pass. So now Microsoft wants to profit any way they can.its called buisness . Just like Sony putting games on pc a year are two after ps5 launch.
So if they can make money off PlayStation and Nintendo. They will do that. And I bet soon real soon they will release some aaa exclusives .and I bet one day it will be same day release

TheEroica789d ago

Sony gamers begging for Xbox games.... Who would've thunk it?

BISHOP-BRASIL789d ago

Yeah, because random site off the internet represents all Sony gamers, they have the letter of attorney and all...

Some of these seem to be exclusive for lack of enthusiasm of the publisher rather than because of deals. A lot of cool indies skip ps for some reason like katana zero, el paso, elsewhere and gunbrela

S2Killinit789d ago

Even more indies skip xbox. We know that right?

Friendlygamer789d ago

Quality over quantity, Microsoft got some really interesting and curated niche games on their machines, maybe in part because of gamepass

S2Killinit789d ago

Quality and MS are not things you bring up in same sentence.

shinoff2183789d ago (Edited 789d ago )

Alot of indies skip xbox to. It goes round and round. Personally I think your off base on that but no need to have the argument.

Friendlygamer789d ago

Between katana zero, valheim, Battletech, el passo... I don't feel off base. maybe ps got a million of light novel games that will never release on Xbox but like I've said, I'm talking about niche games highlights, the 10%.

Heck, it's probably thanks to Microsoft that the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games came to console ps included, meanwhile Sony backwards compatibility continues to be extremely anemic.

And I'm sure most ps5 users are happy to ignore these games and just play wathever new 3rd person action game is trending but it's cool that Microsoft gives some love to smaller audiences and software preservation

shinoff2183789d ago

Again your off base just to be snide. All it's showing though is your ignorance.

One light novels wtf is that even. Ps has plenty of pretty damn good indies.

Speaking of indies and ms being responsible. You know F.I.S.T. of course you do alot of you guys just support gamepass. Well here's a history of Sony being responsible for helping indies. Look up the China project from Sony.

Lastly lol your ignorance showing again. Sony has plenty of games. Personally third person is better then first anyway but that's besides the point. Sony gets so many games that xbox doesn't get because yall don't support the games. Jrpgs being a great example. I personally am not into every Sony first party game. Alot of us aren't. On the other side you don't get to eat often so you gobble up everything. Me personally God of War not my cup, etc. For me I'm into jrpgs and ms just can't touch Sony on those. Again because the Xbox base doesn't support it. Devs dont wanna waste their time or money. Hit me up when falcom develops a game over there.

Speaking of third person narrative games. Aren't yall drooling over hellblade 2. The first one was Sony exclusive at one point. Another not my cup game. Showing we don't have to fall in line and agree we love everything Sony puts out. The facts are they sell though unlike elsewhere(not nintendo)

StormSnooper788d ago

You are same person as GamerRN, yes?

Abnor_Mal789d ago

They really think PlayStation fans would want to play Redfall? Pfft.

Personally nothing on that list would be any game I’d want to play.

TwoPicklesGood789d ago

I’d absolutely love Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Quantum Break on ps5 as I’m sure tons of others would too. There’s nothing wrong with wanting games from another console and its sad that people try to act like they aren’t interested in them.

shinoff2183789d ago

While indont agree with the games. I agree with the point. Your not wrong.

DarXyde789d ago

Sunset Overdrive makes very good sense. Palworld might.

Don't know about the others. Hellblade II does make sense given the original launched on PS4 first. Quantum Break was a massive letdown for me. I absolutely hated the whole TV show thing and I don't think anyone should have to relive that on modern hardware.

Now that Remedy owns Control, it’s time to reclaim Quantum Break

Alan Wake 2 studio Remedy Entertainment has reclaimed the rights to Control, and now sci-fi hit Quantum Break deserves the same treatment.

Totally agree with that especially when Quantum Break has several references to Alan Wake and Alan Wake make allusions to QB.
I do believe that MS and Remedy can work things out and MS has usually been nice to devs and publishers regarding IP.

Obscure_Observer805d ago

They can't "reclaim" what was never theirs.

Petebloodyonion805d ago

I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP.

Lightning77805d ago

MS is not doin anything with it. Plus they're doing a multiverse of their own so Remedy needs the IP.

If MS wants to have exclusive let it be timed for 6 months then go to other platforms. MS seems to be, let's say, generous with some if their games as of late.

Or have QB2 be multiplat from the jump, put it on GP. Keeping QB2 as an exclusive is kinda weird these days.

Obscure_Observer805d ago (Edited 805d ago )

@Petebloodyonion

"I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP."

Good luck

@Lightning77

"MS is not doin anything with it."

Japan Studio is dead nd Sony isn´t doing anything with Bloodborne either! Yet I can 100% guarantee that there´s a far bigger demand for a sequel, remake or even a remaster for that game from both PS5 and PC gamers.

That been said, why don´t you ask Sony tol sell the IP to Fromsoftware now that according to rumors, they bought Elden Ring from Bandai?

ZwVw805d ago (Edited 805d ago )

Reclaim? That would mean that they actually owned the ip at one point, which they never did (MS always has). Apples & oranges. Remedy always owned the Control ip (just not the publishing), as they have with Alan Wake.

About as likely as them getting the Max Payne rights from Rockstar.

mastershredder805d ago (Edited 805d ago )

Sending you game to a publisher does not mean they get "rights to own it " unless that was part of the contract (monetary/ strategic reasons). 505 was the publisher they worked with to publish and distribute it, it dos not mean that 505 flat out "owned" anything, clearly they did have a special arrangement that made them open to limit their publishing rights. and so here we are and big whoop

Jingsing805d ago (Edited 805d ago )

Yeah get Quantum Break PS5, only if you put it on disc with all the associated movie material.

isarai805d ago

I mean they got the Alan Wake IP back from MS, so I feel like they could get QB back as well
