Are they saying it doesn't do 60->120fps reprojection? That's what Sony said the box was for in the first place

mixelon3711d ago

I'm with you, initially that was supposedly the whole point of it.. I'm guessing it still does motion tweeting type stuff or the graphics are going to have to be severely cut back to reach ideal framerates.

uth113711d ago

It's in the specs that 60fps will be reprojected to 120fps. Not sure why we both got so many disagrees on this

Ashunderfire863711d ago

Not really cut back graphics when you have graphically powered framerate games like this:

Christopher3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

I think they're just not mentioning the specifics on how it handles sending frames to the headset. They say it manages video, but not the specifics in that regard.

Edit: It obviously does reprojection since it sends images to both eyes. You can't have that without it. The 60fps to 120fps is 60fps x 2, not adding frames. It's 60fps per eye, not adding frames in the process. So, framerate on PS4 must, as Sony said at GDC, never fall below 60fps.

"The PS4 is perfectably capable of 120Hz all on its own"

Yeah, maybe if games looked like they were made for the PS1 or PS2.
I have a hard time believing this.

Tell me, what decent looking game will operate at a non interpolated 120FPS per eye at native resolution?

/Queue Jeopardy theme.

Christopher3710d ago

1. Why are you responding to me with that?

2. He's not wrong, though. Sure, the games wouldn't look all that great, but (some) of the games they've shown aren't horrible or bad looking, just not up to usual graphic quality of non-VR games. This is true for PC-based VR as well.

Rute3711d ago

I think Sony should clarify on whether PS VR will be forwards compatible with Playstation 5 or not.

G20WLY3711d ago (Edited 3711d ago )

Sony have never said there will even be a PS5. We all know there will be, but to speak of it formally at this stage would be to dampen desirability of PS4 - they would be mad to speak about that at such an early stage.

After the initial sales spike starts to plateau to 'normal' levels, that would be a better time to speak of it in such a way. This would then encourage those thinking like you are to part with their cash.

Looking at the games and the support, PS VR & PS4 are plenty enough for me for the next few years. :^)

“I think there will be a PS5. However, I don’t know what form it’ll have. It could be a physical console, or it could be in the cloud,”
-Masayasu Ito

G20WLY3710d ago (Edited 3710d ago )

Yes, well done Marlo.

Perhaps next you could look up the meaning of the word 'caveat' and how the word 'think' in your irrelevant quote has been used as one.

Do you not see that if he "thinks" there will be one, they can't possibly tell you what will and will not work with it? They don't even know what 'it' is FFS!

Death3711d ago

Rute has a great point. Sony doesn't need to state their will be a PS5, they only need to let gamers know if PSVR will be forward compatible. Releasing 1/2 through the gen, it would be nice to know.

iceman063710d ago

Essentially, it is just a personal HD TV. (receives audio and video signals and translates to each eye) There's not even some specialized port or wire. So, unless there is no PS5 or it is without usb ports, I don't see why it wouldn't. With t cinematic mode, it should work fine. Now, if you are talking new cameras or games, we are WAY too early for that. We still have to see if VR takes off first.

DivineAssault 3711d ago

I dont see why it wouldnt be.. The little box only sends the audio and video signals.. If PS5 releases, it should be made to utilize it..

_-EDMIX-_3711d ago

Because they could already be working on PSVR's sequel for PS5.

Christopher3711d ago

I don't see how it wouldn't be since it essentially just receives peripheral-based audio and video that can be replicated on any other device. The only thing it would need it certification as an acceptable peripheral just like any controller or camera.

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2132d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
