Tom Clancy's The Division: Was It Really Graphically Downgraded?

How does the 2016 closed beta build fare against the original E3 2013 reveal?

Yes. But that's not to say the game doesn't look good, it does. Its not like the Watch Dogs downgrade

Edit: for clarification I am talking about the console versions only

gameseveryday3765d ago

Yes, indeed. But the game looks great.

donthate3765d ago

I would be less concerned about the graphics and more about game play and content personally.

Graphics discussion is getting old, very old!

_-EDMIX-_3765d ago

Even though there's a clear difference between when it was first shown and its current build I'm not sure how important that really is.

I gotta agree with don'thate the whole graphics comparison thing is getting a bit old and I question why so many gamers on this site are merely talking about its graphical difference.

There was a clear graphical difference between when the Witcher 3 was first shown and its final build.

It didn't stop it from being one of the best games last year if not staple RPG.

I think many on here are putting a bit way too much stock in how it looks like

OoglyBoogly3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

@_-EDMIX-_

I think the reason why it's a big deal is because The Division, since 2013, has made a lot of the focus about it's graphics. From tech demo's to developers constantly talking about this effect and these lighting techniques, etc.

Not to mention we've been told multiple times that there was no downgrade. From Massive and Ubisoft I believe.

So while it still looks damn good it doesn't look as good as we were shown time and time again and told time and time again that it would. I mean, do you remember the tech video they showed, bragging about this and that graphical effect? I don't see anything even in the PC version that comes close to half of what they showed.

So I think it's because of all the big talk that fell flat on it's ass as to why gamers are pissed off. I know I am! My 5820K and 295x2 rig was MADE with The Division in mind. The fact that it's not pushing my hardware to it's limits is a bit sad...

OoglyBoogly3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

"Its not like the Watch Dogs downgrade"

Sure it is, if not worse. Watch_Dogs was really only missing a few effects from the E3 showings which were easily enabled on the PC version (which actually didn't look/work that well outside of showcasing) where as The Division is missing things like global illumination, advanced physics (like the billboard blowing up from the tablet app video) or the more detailed car destruction, etc), reduced ground clutter, reduced lighting effects, plus more.

I mean, it still looks VERY impressive, no doubt, but I certainly think the level of downgrade is larger than Watch_dogs ever was.

OpenGL3765d ago

Agreed, the difference visually is massive compared to what we were originally shown.

kaizokuspy3765d ago

Still one of the most fun games I've played on ps4 with the only load screen being between single player and pvp, at least in beta. Games a ton of fun on any playform. Gamers have it good this year.

StoneyYoshi3765d ago

@oogly

How can you say that the game is missing global illumination when the guy in the video was clearly talking about how nice the global illumination is? He actually thinks it looks better than the original reveal.

Where did this rumor of no global illumination come from anyway??

jeromeface3764d ago (Edited 3764d ago )

@dontbhatin They advertised global illumination in their early marketing videos for the engine. The reflections you see on the ground are baked and not impressive compared to real time global illumination. Basically when you look at the reflection of fire on the ground the way it stands now you just see a bright globe that doesn't move... you should be able to see the fire flickering in the reflection on the ground, and your reflection should block the fire if you pass in front of it, far more impressive.

OoglyBoogly3764d ago

@dontbhatin

I certainly haven't seen anything that comes close to global illumination. In fact, the lighting over all seems to be fake in a lot of cases. Just ran across two trees next to each other covered in yellow Christmas lights except one of them had red light surrounding it while the other tree next to it had the correctly colored yellow light around it. The only reason for one of the trees to have red light is if the lighting is fake/baked on.

So yeah...

@ yinyang

If you're saying you're saying that it's just the console version that's been downgraded then please show me console footage where it looked better. You're comparing the initial PC footage to a ps4 then screaming downgrade...

Activemessiah3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

Of course it was... a blind monkey with a speech impediment can see that it was. You'd have to either be in absolute denial or handsomely paid by Ubisoft to say otherwise.

I mean yeah it's fine to say it doesn't bother you and it still looks good but it's another to just sweep the E3 footage under the rug along with the Watch Dogs one.

Niceman913765d ago

Why does this monkey need to have a speech impediment?! Haha!

yarbie10003765d ago

Just like that first reveal of that Uncharted 4 video...

FoxyGotGame3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

@yarbie1000

Was it really necessary to Troll? ....So Sadly Embarrassing ...urgh /

Edit

Chug gets it...

Chug3765d ago

What does Uncharted have to do with this?? While we're at it, let's compare Uncharted 4 to The Division graphically. Which do you suppose looks better?

yarbie10003765d ago

@Chug We're talking about downgrades. Sorry that topic was over your head.

Division looks great on PC. I'm playing on Ultra settings, and the level of detail is awesome especially considering how large the map is.

For a linear style game Uncharted looks good. But I like my framerates above 30 :)

Chug3765d ago

Haha wow.

The only thing going over my head is your total lack of sense and comprehension.

I'm sorry if a console game looks better than your awesome ultra PC specs. Speaking of, I wonder what settings my 670 could run this game at?

KwietStorm_BLM3765d ago

No, dummy, we're not talking about downgrades. We're talking about The Division. I'm going to give you benefit of the doubt and say you're smart enough to know this, so you're trolling for bo reason.

jb2273765d ago

How 7 people could agree w/ a statement that can only be false at this point is insane to me. Regardless of what you & the rest of the trolls say, UC4 has always maintained the same visual consistency in its previews & trailers that will be present in the final console version. The first section was taken in the evening when shadows are deeper & richer, the other sections were taken from the daytime when shadows & details are washed out by the sun. I guarantee when the game releases & people can compare that first gameplay section to the final game that they will be identical in every aspect. ND has never been guilty of a downgrade & I highly doubt they start here. Ubisoft on the other hand has been guilty of these practices on multiple occasions & The Division is no different. Beyond that if we are talking sheer visual aesthetic there is no way that The Division looks better than UC.

saywat2473765d ago

u know what i think. i think ur jealous that u dont have a ps4 and cant play the great exclusives such as uncharted 4. when has pc ever had an experience like that? nice try tho kiddo

yarbie10003765d ago

I had one. Not much of one for collector items tho. I prefer to have platforms I actually use and game on

Clunkyd3765d ago

@Yarbie
Still salty that you don't have Uncharted on your preferred platform? lol

Utalkin2me3765d ago

@yarbie1000

Talking about "downgrades". Where in the heck is that in the article. It's referring to one game and a company that has been doing it lately.

This is not a comparison downgrades article. There is a reason why you have as many bubbles as you do and ignored by so many.

pdblacknoir3765d ago

I think it still looks good. Not really much difference

_LarZen_3765d ago

Yeah there was. But it looks great on PS4. And amazing on PC.

ProgressiveLiberal3765d ago

Was it downgraded? Sure. But is it a bad looking game? Far from it.

KwietStorm_BLM3765d ago

I don't think it looks too great. The textures and color saturation are very dull. The look reminds me of The Last Of Us on PS3, but this is 2016.

Lamboomington3765d ago

I think it looks gorgeous. Esp on PC.

It's got a lot of impressive graphical features that you just don't see used in most other games, atleast not to this extent.

gwumper9873765d ago

They aren't going for super flashy and eye catching, rather more realistic and gritty. The visuals are very fitting with the tone of the game

Grell5663765d ago

Tested it on both Xbox One and ps4, looks the same on both.
Gonna buy it on PC.

kraenk123765d ago

Wonder why you're getting disagrees. Even Digital Foundry have confirmed aside from minimal stability advantages the game looks exactly the same kind of great on both consoles.
