Why EA's decision not to attend E3 is smart

Alex Gibson from GamersFTW writes "EA has always been a staple at E3, and the company’s announcement that they will not be attending the 2016 show comes as somewhat of a shock. It’s a clever move on the part of EA, which is sure to save the company tens of thousands of dollars in set up costs. Moreover, it represents a strategic move for control that cuts out the press, and is likely to generate huge excitement for EA’s content prior to E3."

rather than become a laughing stock or snorefest like pc im gonna say its smart

* Just leaves more room for somebody else to take that place.

EA isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so there will probably copy what Nintendo does with the Nintendo Directs and try that.

Good thing Nintendo does both.

E3 should be pretty awesome this year though.

Tons of RPG's + NX reveal/more in depth look.

YinYangGaming3768d ago

EA are big enough to do this and as long as they make the conference better and less cheesey I'll be happy to see where it goes

Kalebninja3768d ago (Edited 3768d ago )

Im disappointed, they have huge games releasing this year and keeping them out of E3 is pretty lame. love sitting down during E3 week to see all the press conferences.

Neonridr3768d ago

It doesn't mean that they won't show up on stage during the Sony or MS conferences. It just means they won't be hosting their own event.

-Foxtrot3767d ago

Isn't that a problem though. I always hate when other companies like EA/Ubisoft/Activision waste slots in first party conferences like Sony or Microsoft when they have their own presentations

I'd rather see longer walkthroughs or trailers for first party games.

Nothing worse then seeing the same trailer twice/three times during E3 week.

Yukes3768d ago

As Neonridr says. With any luck it'll help keep their offerings more concise without all of the s*%& that usually accompanies their press conferences.

basilboxer3768d ago

EA are flexing their muscles here.. Will definitely be interesting to see if more publishers follow.

madhouse023768d ago

Not a big loss from E3 really.. their press conferences are normally a complete joke.

RosweeSon3768d ago

The fact you can guess the following years games doesn't help, FIFA, madden, NFL... Yawn.

nitus103767d ago

Yes rinse and repeat seem to be the norm for many games today. What is even worse though is Pay To Win which we are now seeing in many smart phone games fortunately there is not much of that in console games yet.

I don't mind some DLC, providing it is worth it and even some micro-transactions which I never purchase anyway.

-Foxtrot3767d ago

EA Sports segments are the worst...acting like we're all football/soccer fans

If I was I wouldn't be watching E3 I'd be outside, during the hot Summer day, playing a sport

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

cue the apologist saying that these are mostly just contractors hired for this specific project bla bla bla

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

isarai_lee86d ago

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

Different elections. Different scum. Same results.

i know its a long shot, but i hope this gets shot down.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
