Does the Next Titanfall Game Need a Single Player Campaign?

We know that Titanfall is expected to release by April 2017, but does it need a single player campaign to make it successful?

bixxel3808d ago

I think, given the former Moder Warfare developers' experience, they might make a great campaign.

RevXM3808d ago

I think so too and it is a cool world they have created in Titanfall. A proper campaign could be quite epic I think.

Please NOOO, let us mp only gamers have our one title, make that aspect perfect without allocating significant resources to a mode that barely gets playtime comparatively. Just put it on the ps4 as well and sales will easily meet expectations

jb2273808d ago

"one title"? You must not keep up w/ the release calendar, you mp only gamers have quite a few more than that now...off the top of my head Evolve, Battlefront, CoD for last gen, Rainbow Six Siege & The Division have all released as mp only games in the last year, and I'm certain there are more I'm forgetting. MP only & open world rpg gamers were virtually the only two categories catered to in the AAA space in 2015. Now us sp gamers who enjoy a good linear story are the ones that are truly hurting for games these days. This year seems to rectify that though (hopefully)

I don't necessarily think Titanfall needs a campaign either way...I only play SP so I'm uninterested in the franchise as long as it doesn't have one, but Respawn should make the game catered to the audience they want to court. I don't want to see them shoehorn in a half hearted campaign just to trick sp gamers into buying just like I don't want to see sp games shoehorn in a bad mp to trick those gamers into buying something they may not be interested in.

Fist4achin3808d ago

If there are too many mp games there won't be enough players to keep it going as more and more mps continue to come out. I think the mp crowd is a little fickle when it comes to games bc new and better stuff keeps coming out all the time nowadays.

rainslacker3808d ago

Those SP campaigns can bring in more players, as people who are into SP are more apt to go online. If there is no SP campaign, people who like/prefer SP probably won't bother with it, which means fewer MP players to fill the games.

DivoJones3808d ago

It was also one of the biggest complaints about the game from the masses. Add in about a half-dozen Titan variants, few more weapons and some weapon customization (attachments, camo) and boom they should be in business. I was a big fan of the original myself.. solid mechanics and gameplay.

mryams3808d ago

I'll admit that I didn't play the original mostly due to the fact that is didn't. I like a good story.

GrmpyolGamer 3798d ago

There was an online campaign. MP matches with a story happening in the background but no traditional SP can be off putting to some people

Relientk773808d ago

Yes it does, if they want me to buy it

gangsta_red3808d ago

No, if the game is a multiplayer focus type of a game, then why "tack" on a single player campaign?

TwoForce3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

Then you just want to be a faceless factions soldiers ? Also, these guys are former COD developers.

kraenk123808d ago

So you want to doom the 2nd game as well?!

WellyUK3808d ago

SP would not of saved Titanfall anyway... Stop making up a load of BS.

kraenk123808d ago

@WellyUK

No, but it kept many people from buying it...including me.

GrmpyolGamer 3798d ago

Doom? Titanfall sold 10 million copies

BQ323808d ago

How did titanfall need saving? It revolutionized the genre and had the best gameplay of any new shooter at that time, though there was not enough variation in the weapons. It was more hurt by being an Xbox one exclusive at a time when consumers still had a sour taste for Microsoft. I bought the One specifically for that game and thought it was amazing. While being a Halo player who didn't like COD.

2pacalypsenow3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

What did it revolutionize tho? I don't see any other developer copying the play style, If anything it just added robots and bots to a COD game and took half of the leveling up and guns from it. I see Advanced warfare also had the running on building etc but I cant say if they had that concept from before or copied it maybe they had a concept for it when they worked for IW. But no one is trying to be the Next Titanfall like they are with COD, most of the sales came from the Huge marketing for the game and the fact that it was the first killer App for Xbox 1 at the time I even fell for the Hype and bought it on PC and regretted it.

Clogmaster3808d ago

I thought Starhawk was more revolutionary.

But that game was left to die in a ditch.

spicelicka3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

That should be the case if they're making the multiplayer epic and with enough content to make up for the campaign, unlike Battlefront. The last Titanfall was brilliant but unfortunately the multiplayer was as big as the multiplayer component of many other games like Halo/CoD, in which case a single player wouldn't be a "tack" on, it would complete the package. In fact, Halo has a much bigger multiplayer than Titanfall while having a full 4 player campaign, so it's definitely possible.

I think it should have a single player campaign for a few reasons:

Firstly, from what I noticed the multiplayer was only a focus because they had a budget, resource, and time constraint. They tried to incorporate a story in a multiplayer campaign as best as they could with what they had. I have not played ANY multiplayer-only game this gen that's justified a $60 price.

Titanfall, Evolve, Battlefront, and Rainbow six all felt like games that had campaign components ripped out of them. (This is also true for many single player games that were too small, but then there were games like Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, Dragon Age that WERE worth their price tag). There is no guarantee that developers will spend single player budgets on multiplayer, instead they'll just use a smaller budget to save costs and charge full price.

Secondly, this is a personal opinion but all throughout my time with Titanfall I could just imagine how freakin EPIC a proper campaign would be. The game had great music, and an atmospheric culture that left me wanting so much more. Imagine fighting those giant creatures in the background with half a dozen other titans. Imagine the set pieces they can create with nex-gen tech, while keeping the multiplayer as good as it would still be otherwise.

I just think with a proper campaign and a bigger multiplayer this franchise could be HUGE hit.

GrmpyolGamer 3798d ago

Agreed. If they do it it has to be done right or why bother?

Nah. I'd rather they focused online than make a half assed SP. However, there should be alot of content to make up for it. It's EA though, so i'm guessing no story and a lackluster MP, just like battlefront.

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

isarai_lee126d ago

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

i know its a long shot, but i hope this gets shot down.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
