Why Star Wars Battlefront Might Answer Our Prayers

Jo from GamersFTW writes: "Unless you have been living under a rock for the last year or so, you may have heard of a small upcoming game release called Star Wars Battlefront. Oh, you have heard of it? Good, then it will make this all the easier. It has been a massive ten years since that last Battlefront game and fans of both the game and film franchises have been waiting patiently to get their grubby little mitts on it."

In all honesty with Fallout 4 just around the corner I'm not too excited about Battlefront itself. I completely agree, however, that if it means that publishers suddenly sit up and say "Hey, Star Wars games still do pretty damn well", and support exciting-looking games like Battle of the Sith Lords, then I say let the hype roll on!

ninsigma3896d ago

Publishers can't do that though because EA have the star wars gaming rights.

Perjoss3896d ago

It's a shame that EA got this exclusivity, apart from DICE getting the job of making Battlefield as I really could not think of a better dev to handle this.

It could be worse though, I just pray that Activision do not get the rights after the 10 year deal ends. The only possible good that could come from that would be Blizzard being involved in making Star Wars games, but Bliz dont really do licence stuff as until now they work on their own IPs.

ninsigma3896d ago

Yeah it's really sucky, especially because I steer clear of giving EA money. After the deal is up I'd rather not one got exclusive rights to the license. Disney should license out on a per game basis instead of stupidly long deals like this to crappy companies. That's what's good for us but unfortunately what's good for gamers most of the time isn't good for companies which is really bad!

MrsNesbitt3896d ago

Too many games coming out now :( Fallout 4 is my personal priority probably look to catch up with everything else after that! I know it's the Christmas rush but they could spread it out a bit more

OB1Biker3896d ago

Fallout 4 and SWBattlefront for me is all I need for many great gaming months.

GamerGabs3896d ago

I do enjoy a good Star Wars game, with a soft spot for the Lego version. It will be exciting (I hope) to see what sneaks out of the closet and what new games are inspired to be created, if all goes well.

Shillmeister3896d ago

Maybe we'll one day get the version of Battlefront along the lines of what Free Radical was envisioning..
All seriousness though, give us that Star Wars 1313! Still cannot believe that was canned!

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

isarai_lee122d ago

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

Different elections. Different scum. Same results.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
