Pristine on PC, blurred on PS4 and Xbox One. What's actually going on?

So there still isn't a definitive answer for this issue. The fact that a very underpowered PC with much less bandwidth can run 16× AF with almost no performance hits when consoles can't is even more baffling. What is really the issue with AF on consoles? Also, I think most of the games stated by DF in the article aren't good examples. Most are just quick cash grabs with the devs probably not giving a shit about AF on the PS4, which seems to require some additional work or else it defaults to trilinear.

marioJP873866d ago

Funny thing is, applying 16X AF to all my games doesn't affect them at all.

Its AMD cpu its killing the consoles. This is what happens when the suits and ceo's try to be engineers. The engineers told these fools that amd x8 core cpus were for servers only and these fools told them to shut up or get fired and they have ruined amd because if it.

BlackKnight3866d ago

The computer they tested it on was also AMD APU...and it had no issue.

awi59513865d ago (Edited 3865d ago )

The weak cores from amd cpus all this gen since the new fx series was launched is because they are server parts. There were never to be released as desktop or laptop parts. The tards in amd management and Pr forced these chips out as desktop parts over the engineers begging them not too. They were making them for servers only and the suits wanted to make a fast buck at the long term detriment of the company. They have been just average in gaming performance because they were never meant for games. The whole way amd 8 core cpus are made is for servers. And that is why we see such crap gaming performance out of them. Now the 8350 and newer chips work ok for gaming but for cpu bound games you are going to have some issues. I love amd because of the price but they dropped the ball on the fx series. The only amd cpus is worth it is the 8350,9370 and higher. The rest i wouldnt try to game on.

It would be like putting in a 12 core intel cpu and try to game on it. Anyone that tried knows that you will see a loss in performance and would have a hard time getting 60 fps in games. Does that sound familiar? You can't put server parts in desktops or laptops you only screw up performance.

If you havent noticed amd engineers are all jumping ship because of the stupid calls management has made. The amd engineers knew this would happen and it makes me not want to support the company anymore on the cpu side of things. Gpu wise ATI is killing it. I'm maxing all games on 150 dollar dual gpu build. For those of you that go the 270x when it was on sale for 150 you know you got a good deal with that. Its maxing battlefield 4 at 30 fps and you can get 60 fps@ 1080p if you turn some settings to high. IF you want to pay more you can get the 4gb version of the 270x and it can max bf4 at 60 fps

"I think most of the games stated by DF in the article aren't good examples"

Why cant console owners just accept that their hardware is the issue?

For god sake.

FlexLuger3866d ago (Edited 3866d ago )

"Anisotropic filtering is very expensive, so it's an easy thing for the PS4 devs to drop (due to the higher resolution) to gain back performance, as very few of them can hold 1080p with AF. Xbox One, as it is running at lower res, can use the extra GPU time to do expensive AF and improve the image."

Very interesting......I think in time devs will get more out of both machines though. the 2016 games look better than the stuff we had this year visually, so surely the only way is up. Its good that devs are ditching last gen deveolpment more raplidly now. Sooner all resources are put into current gen, the better.

lolosgolos3865d ago

The next paragraph in the article eludes more to what is true than what you picked out

FlexLuger3865d ago

How is another paragraph in the same article more true than this? that makes no sense....

TheGreatGamer3866d ago

So basically the unified memory means that cpu intensive games have a negative effect on gpu bandwidth?

Ck1x3866d ago

This is why people think that shared memory architecture is such a great thing, but forget that the bandwidth is shared. HBM will completely fix this in future consoles, but currently developers have to make sacrifices and games just won't look as pretty for awhile...

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio26d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing25d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9226d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit26d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing25d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9225d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
