Guitar Hero Live developer responds to microtransaction concerns

FreeStyle Games has defended its decision to integrate microtransactions into Guitar Hero Live, explaining that it simply wanted to "provide a lot of variety" and "give people choice" over the way they accessed new music.

you technically don't have to spend any money, but you also can't just hop into the game and play a setlist of all your favorite songs unless you have enough of the currencies saved up. really stupid idea, imo.

donthate3858d ago (Edited 3858d ago )

You can play any of the 40+ songs included in the game at any time without any tokens/credits/currencies. They are included in the game, and is yours to keep.

The micro-transaction part is a new additional feature where songs are played randomly decided by the dev and you can play them for free. As you play you get free tokens to "rent" any new song (not from your 40+ included songs) to play. If you want immediate access with no tokens, you can buy tokens.

So in some way it is quite novel idea and not nearly as bad as I thought. Not a fan, but at least there is an alternative called RockBand if you abhor this.

You have to be kidding me? Microtransactions in Guitar Hero?? This is a new low even for Activision.

--Onilink--3858d ago

didnt previous GH (and RB games) already had microtransactions in terms of buying new songs?? o.O

how is this a novelty?

crazychris41243858d ago (Edited 3858d ago )

You are renting songs here. Not like in previous games where once you bought it you own if forever and can play it as many times as you want.

"But players will never actually be able to own the additional songs available on GHTV, with FreeStyle abandoning Guitar Hero's traditional DLC model for a method that lets players stream tracks at random for free, or play individual tracks on-demand by spending an in-game currency known as 'Play' tokens. Players are also able to purchase a 'Party Pass' to gain unlimited access to all on-demand music for a limited period of time."

I like the old dlc model. Im getting Rock Band 4 next month and plan on picking up a bunch of dlc songs once they get a sale.

--Onilink--3858d ago

the model might be worse, but it doesnt make your original comment any less innacurate. Microtransactions in GH have existed for years

Have fun with Rock Band 4's lack of online play.

Yes because none of the other Guitar Hero games sold extra songs, right? Lol

Metal gear was probably the worst way to end a franchise that was at one time the best out there, sad how that went down. Call of duty was good and it’s crapping out hard if u ask me. Uncharted ended right

I wouldn't say resistance crumbled
it came to a natural end

Losing Dead Space and Silent Hill really sucks. Good horror games are hard to come by

Fist4achin2311d ago

RIP Dead Space! Puns intended

I liked Killzone 2 and 3. KZ2 amazed me with the graphics. KZ3 refined the gameplay mechanics, although a small minority of fans thought the movement wasn't heavy enough like KZ2. I thought it was perfect

7 Times Games Forced Us Online (Against Our Will)

Some games force online-only measures onto people. It sucks! Especially when some titles, like these seven, 100% didn't need it.

The Destruction of Guitar Hero Live

With Rock Band 4 still chugging along and the actual teaching tool known as Rocksmith teaching guitar in a world where that music is a dying breed, there may not be another renaissance for the music gaming genre. Guitar Hero Live will likely be the last Guitar Hero game ever released.
