Are Ubisoft Downgrading games again?

Ubisoft have come in for quite alot of criticism in recent times for allegedly downgrading their titles graphically from reveal to release. Just last week Ubisoft revealed further gameplay of Rainbow Six Siege and the same thing appears to be happening with this game.

Business as always, One would think this isn't news coming from Ubisoft

NecotheSergal4071d ago

Downgrading is definitely not a business.

Just Ubisoft seems to be the one who uses 'Bullshit' and Deception strategy the most these days as a form of 'Tactic' to hide things, if anything it gives the aura of them thinking their consumers are stupid.

Their very method of marketing employed by Ubi involves lying and deception. I have to think they sit down in the boardroom and look at the buzz vs blowback and obviously decide the attacks that will come once the sheep wake up is worth the initial good press.

Here is an example:

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

This is the initial reveal of Watchdogs. When it came out people were drooling. When those such as myself pointed out that there were times in the video the guy wasn't even using the controller yet the character was shooting, people refused to listen and instead attacked us, the evil naysayers. Result?

Then they flipped out over The Crew and several of us warned people again. All to no avail. With AC Unity we spoke up and look how that turned out. Remarks were made about The Division and again people wanted to ignore this because they were slobbering at bullshots.

Rainbow Six Siege looks nothing like the reveal - I am still cringing from those absurd voice overs - so yes the same situation is once more happening and much of the press and public is duplicit.

Very often, people get what they deserve and as long as Ubi and companies like them are able to make bank on these actions they will continue unabated.

@Morgan - Not like you need to lecture me about this, I wasn't born yesterday. lmao.

I used to respect Ubisoft back in the old days - AC Unity and the AC Milking and the Watchdogs downgrade were plenty for me to not buy anymore of their games - and when I say this, I don't then go out and buy their next game like many do, I really do mean it.

morganfell4070d ago

I wasn't lecturing, I was agreeing. I didn't mean to come across like I was educating someone with whom I am obviously on the same page :)

We both likely had good experiences when Red Storm was still in charge of the IPs. Then Ubisoft came in, Christian Allen took over as Creative Lead and Ghost Recon 2 became an abortion of casual gaming. What do you expect from a guy behind Takedown. Of course we warned people about that one too and they still bought into it. Just head over to Steam and look at some of the reactions to that game.

DonkeyDoner4071d ago

at least they're not taking out your video on youtube

Big_Game_Hunters4071d ago

I guess we live in a world where wanting a cut from people who use your copy rights is worse than lying to consumers and downgradinge the quality of what matters most... the actual game?

brich2334071d ago

They did this with Watchdogs. Remember?

That is a very noticeable downgrade to me.

Meltic4071d ago (Edited 4071d ago )

no they did not. The ultra setting files ( e3 files ) was in a document in the game files for the moders to mod. If i remember correct. They was lazy.... better graphic means more bugs to put out and more optimizing

rdgneoz34071d ago

" The ultra setting files ( e3 files ) was in a document in the game files for the moders to mod."

So it was downgraded unless you found the hidden files and modded the game... Pretty much every pc game gets mods that drastically improve the graphics of the game, just look at some of the amazing Skyrim mods for example.

What the game shipped with for graphics options that were visible to everyone, was a downgrade from what they had shown before.

Ubisoft lately seems to have that bait and switch tactic going on. Show something amazing, then downgrade it right before release. Or release a buggy broken product with an embargo that doesn't lift till release day (Unity).

crazychris41244071d ago

It wasnt downgraded, it was butchered on PC. Poor performance, hidden graphic features and Uplay being Uplay. Then they managed to screw up AC Unity even more. Time for Ubisoft to step up a release some quality games that work at launch. Not buying another title until they do this.

starchild4071d ago (Edited 4071d ago )

True, AC Unity wasn't downgraded. It looks amazing and is quite demanding, but it runs stable on my PC. The NPCs are buggy sometimes, but other than that I haven't had any problems with it. I have a gsync monitor and I'm sure that helps with my perception of it because it runs smoothly, but I would probably cap it at 30fps otherwise and still be decently happy with the game.

Bathyj4071d ago

I dont give a damn about the graphics in this game, just give me a good tactical single player campaign with solid squad commands.

d_g4071d ago (Edited 4071d ago )

i don't remember Assassin’s Creed Unity had a Downgrade
and Rainbow Six Siege looks great

but if ubisoft Downgrade the division like Watch dogs...i will never trust this company again

Haru4071d ago

I'm pretty sure Assassin's creed unity wasn't downgraded, that's why it ran so bad

UKmilitia4071d ago

i want The Division so bad its unreal but they better not screw it up because it be last UBI game i get it its a mess.

I can't sit here and act like I know these workers financial situations. And I'm sure nobody wakes up WANTING to go to court. But for the sake of the industry, I wish some of these types of cases made it to trial.

Settlements allow companies to continue to do whatever abusive practices they do. While the trials (should the company lose) would actually force real changes for the better.

But again, I'm not in these workers shoes and I can understand them not wanting to risk it.
