Quantum Break set to launch in 2016

Microsoft Studios announced today that the highly-anticipated action-adventure Quantum Break will launch in 2016. With so many games launching this year, moving Quantum Break to 2016 extends the strongest blockbuster line-up in Xbox history into next year. Quantum Break is created by Remedy Entertainment, the critically-acclaimed studio behind Max Payne and Alan Wake.

My guess, Quantum Break will launch at spring 2016 just like Uncharted 4. I am equally excited for both. Alan Wake was an underrated/overlooked masterpiece.

Gazondaily4064d ago

Ouch! THat's a big title out of the 2015 line-up. Like Sony, MS need something to bolster its lineup in 2015.

Also, not a good sign for the game imo.

Dark114064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

MS already have Halo 5 and Rise of the tomb raider for 2015

nice try lol.

LMAO @Disagrees for my post and The_Infected post

i guess some people are mad lol.

4064d ago
Gazondaily4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

@Dark

I'm not trying anything. Uncharted 4's omission in 2015 left a big hole in Sony's line-up for me. Similarly, the same applies here with QB.

QB is something else. Not a FPS or a timed third party exclusive.

poppinslops4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

They delayed the hell out of Alan Wake... it turned out great!

Still... this news sucks.

Edit: I'm all for delays in the name of polish - it appears to have been great for games like 'Arkham Knight' and 'Wild Hunt'... but it 'sounds' like it was delayed as a means of avoiding the Christmas competition (CoD, Assassin's Creed, Battlefront, Tomb Raider etc), as-opposed to it not being 'ready'.

Perhaps Microsoft were worried about another Sunset Overdrive situation (great game with 'underwhelming' sales)?

DarXyde4064d ago

How is that not a good sign? I'd argue it means they care about the quality of the product they're pushing.

That's a win in my book. Uncharted was delayed and Zelda was delayed. Both very highly-acclaimed franchises. Though Quantum Break is a new IP, I'd say this is the best course of action.

Gazondaily4064d ago

Whilst a delay is good if it allows devs more time on the game, it is also a sign of project mis-management when it comes to planning, timing or something with the game.

Look at Driveclub as an example of a delayed game, or Duke Nukem Forever.

Seafort4064d ago

@Dark11

And you're 100% sure Tomb Raider, Halo 5 and Forza will all launch in 2015?

I already said one of the exclusive AAA games for Xbox would be delayed in another post and Quantum Break has done just that.

What's next? :P

Tedakin4064d ago

Microsoft's holiday lineup dwarfs the PS4s.... even without Quantum Break.

uptownsoul4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

@Tedakin

"Microsoft's holiday lineup dwarfs the PS4s.... even without Quantum Break." -- 2 things:

1) Thats yet to be seen since no release dates have been mentioned for any Xbox games (outside of Halo 5) & who knows what Sony can bring for Holiday 2015.

AND

2) The only reason why that might be a possibility is because Microsoft will have done nothing for the 1st 7-8 months of the year

Genuine-User4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

There goes another game I was looking forward to this year delayed 2016.

Edit: @ septic, It is disheartening but I think it'll be for the best.

Gazondaily4064d ago

@uptownsoul

"2) The only reason why that might be a possibility is because Microsoft will have done nothing for the 1st 7-8 months of the year"

Ori came out last month. I wouldn't say that's 'nothing'.

@Genuine

Yup, Zelda, Uncharted and now this. Its really disheartening and putting a damper on my expectations for those games tbh.

Genuine-User4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

@ Septic
Come on mate. Unlike Sony, Microsoft needs to do all they can to bolster its line up through out 2015.
Sony has already released The Order 1886, Bloodborne and MLB 15.
Here is a list of some PS4 exclusives I'm looking forward to in 2015:

Until Dawn
Tomorrow's Children
Hellblade
Rime
Tearaway Unfolded
The Witness
Street Fighter V
Alienation
No Man's Sky
God of War Remastered
Ratchet and Clank
Persona 5

Kribwalker4064d ago

Pretty funny how everyone has called this a delay, while it was never announced as a 2015 launch anyways. As for halo Forza and tomb raider, they have all been given MS release windows or as halo is concerned release dates by MS of this fall.

martinezjesus19934064d ago

You know, Ive noticed everytime people make these lists that they include rise of the tomb raider for Microsoft even though it is cross gen, but always leave out Persona 5 for Sony because it is cross gen. Interesting.

On topic. As someome that has all major platforms (Ps4, Xbox1, Pc, Wii u) I'm glad they delayed it, so many games to play this year I was going to be broke, now my hope is they space out next years games nicely like they are doing this year

imt5584064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

Quote :

Like Sony, MS need something to bolster its lineup in 2015...

What 'like Sony'? Do you know Sony's line-up for 2016, beside Uncharted 4?

vishmarx4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

Tedakin

yeah we know xbox year is only 3 months long and the rest 9 dont matter to you.
also its stupid to believe any such thing when ps4 already has 3 exclusives out,many without release dates and we havent even seen e3 yet.

i could too,say sony's early 2016 lineup dwarfs xbox's with uc4 and sf5, but thatll be a really stupid statement to say this early.
the only thing true for now is ps4 has had multiple exclusives out and has several others coming this year while xbox has no big exclusives coming out before october it seems

@septic

"Well a baseball game and the Order aren't exactly going to put immense pressure on MS are they. I don't think many people feel they are missing out on that one.

Bloodborne yes. Microsoft has had Ori too.

If anything, the pressure is on both of htem but less on MS I'd say based on what we know is coming out this year. "

being outsold 2:1,having no major exclusive for 2/3rds of the year while sony already has 3 . yeah ms sure would be chill.clearly winning.Until Dawn ,
Tomorrow's Children ,Hellblade ,Rime ,Tearaway Unfolded ,The Witness ,Alienation ,No Man's Sky ,God of War Remastered ,Ratchet and Clank ,Persona 5 , dragon quest heroes,disgaea 5,god eater 2 arent actual games that people can possibly buy.yet everyone will buy a new xbox for halo and forza im sure

also, yeah ori . a digital only self published multiplat indie is totally comparable to bloodborne

Gazondaily4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

@Genuine

"Sony has already released The Order 1886, Bloodborne and MLB 15."

Well a baseball game and the Order aren't exactly going to put immense pressure on MS are they. I don't think many people feel they are missing out on that one.

Bloodborne yes. Microsoft has had Ori too.

If anything, the pressure is on both of htem but less on MS I'd say based on what we know is coming out this year.

I don't get why people care so much about the way games are distributed in the year but even if we do take that seriously, I don't see the MS camp feeling pressured with the exception of Bloodborne which has a more niche appeal anyway (although its getting more mainstream attention I feel).

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree mate but, whereas before, MS had a robust line-up, that lineup has taken a dent now that this has been delayed.

@vishmarx

"being outsold 2:1,having no major exclusive for 2/3rds of the year while sony already has 3 "

Firstly, please don't bring sales into this. I know how much you love the fact that SOny makes a lot of money but please, this isn;t about sales.

"also, yeah ori . a digital only self published multiplat indie is totally comparable to bloodborne"

So you don't care about indies. That's nice.

But for those of us who don't care about sales and ACTUALLY enjoy games, Ori being an indie title does't preclude it from being a good game and one available on the X1 platform.

uptownsoul4064d ago

@Septic

Ori seems to be a great game but it isn't "exactly going to put immense pressure on" PS is it?

My point is, Xbox doesn't release major titles that put "immense pressure" on its competition till Holiday. But the first, approximately 7-8 months of most years doesn't bring anything major

Genuine-User4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

You shouldn't disregard games based on their genre or critical opinion. And if you want to compare Bloodborne to Ori, then I must add Hotline Miami 2, Olli Olli 2 and Helldivers to the list as well. The fact is friend, Playstation has more games that average 80+.

The pressure is mainly on Microsoft based on what they have released so far (2015).

Why shouldn't people care about the first 8 months of the year?

MS has a good line-up for fall 2015, that's still the case.

Gazondaily4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

@uptown and Gneuine

Well if we're going to formulate lists like that wellt hen:

Halo 5
Forza 6
Tomb Raider
State of Emergency
Inside
Below
Fable Legends
Cuphead
etc etc

It all boils down to taste.

I don't get why we're deflecting here. All I said was that MS have to bolster their line-up just like Sony. Those are heavy hitting titles and exclusives.

"But the first, approximately 7-8 months of most years doesn't bring anything major"

True but aside from BB on PS4, I don't see anything major either on the PS4 front (sorry but I'm not counting The Order or MLB- others might).

"You shouldn't disregard games based on their genre or critical opinion."

Well what I think is a crap game is a crap game and a genre that is niche, I mean it won't put that much pressure just like, as uptown said, Ori won't either.

"Why shouldn't people care about the first 8 months of the year?
MS has a good line-up for fall 2015, that's still the case."

Because there isn't a massive one-sided advantage to Sony's platform in my opinion.

Listen, we'll never agree on this I suspect because we obviously attribute different weight to titles.

But QB's absence in 2015 has left me disappointed. I just feel like MS has to plug the gap just like how I felt Sony 'needed' to do the same with UC4. That's all. I don't want to get into the gutter game of listwars. I regret mentioning UC4 now. -__-' (But then the MS contingent would be on my case)

4Sh0w4064d ago

I think its good for Quantum Break the holiday lineup starting around October is packed with big exclusives. QB is a big game but its a new IP and hopefully if they give it 3+ months of advertising on its own for a spring launch the game will be a huge success. Sunset Overdrive was 1 of the best games last year but I think its very hard to break out a new IP amongst other big time industry favorites and although sales did OK they definitely suffered because of this.

uptownsoul4064d ago

@Septic

"True but aside from BB on PS4, I don't see anything major either on the PS4 front (sorry but I'm not counting The Order or MLB- others might). "

I can't argue with that statement, but at least Playstation tries to put out major games throughout the year. Outside of Titanfall (which Microsoft didn't have full control over (Pub:EA, Dev:Respawn)) there has been no effort on Microsoft's part to release a major game on the XB1 before August[if i'm not mistaken] Now 2016 might be different, but that doesn't appear to be by design, that seems more like 2015 roll-over.

And I LOVE how Playstation releases their games. They could have held TLOU:R till holiday 2014; they could have held both The Order & Bloodborne till August or later. But they don't. Playstation likes sprinkling the whole year with major games

LexHazard794064d ago

This doesn't have the same impact as Uncharted. Moving it to 2016 was right move. Plus we don't know what other games are coming this yr.

StarLord_Who4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

All i wanted this year was Uncharted 4, Zelda and Quantum Break. Me and gaming are going on a break for now.

Everyone else is ok enjoying their procedurely generated dungeon crawlers, of which there will be thousands.

For all the soulless skanky vampires who still care about console wars.

Sony didn't want Uncharted 4 delayed because Tomb Raider will have the advantage.

Sony currently has a good grasp in terms of quality per quarter with Bloodborne while MS has no AAA exclusives out yet.

Xenoverse Wii U is coming, be excited for that.

BOTH companies have lost their token fall games, just as Sony lost The Order last fall. There is no such thing as a bad delay, only in terms of business and money making.

chrismichaels044064d ago

Cant say Im surprised based on what we've been hearing the past few weeks about the game. But like I always say, Id rather a delayed game be good than a rushed game be a buggy mess.

Iluvtrim4064d ago Show
AngelicIceDiamond4064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

Well that sucks to me as a gamer. But if it means more polish then so be it the game will be that much better.

Phil Stated this year will be packed with games and he'll have to push some games back.

QB seems very ambitious new Ip, Halo, Forza 6 and Rise Of The Tombraider. Already established Ip's that could cannibalize QB's hype.

Its best to release it in a window all to it itself or, at least a launch window where it has some breathing room.

Because with Uncharted 4 and Zelda releasing next year MS needs to be EXTRA careful when they release it.

Bdub20004064d ago

A very anticipated Microsoft exclusive got delayed... Who could have guessed it would be trolled by ps4 owners and turn in to a ps4 vs X1 game line up argument in the comments section?

I'm bummed it's delayed, I'm pretty amped for this one.

3-4-54064d ago

Septic....you MAY be overreacting a bit.

bouzebbal4063d ago

please stop bringing Ori into every single one of your posts, it's painful overtime. Damn...
Ok xbox one got what sounds like your game of the year, no need to bring that back every single time. This is my problem with the xbox fanboys in general, holding tight in one game and glorifying it more than they should.

OT: QB delayed, i wish Aussigamer1 could come here and tell us what games x1 has left this year.. I can feel TR will get pushed as well.
it's just a terrible year for x1 with no big games. but i guess it's no problem for you guys you will be playing Ori over and over -_-'

Gazondaily4063d ago (Edited 4063d ago )

Why does Ori burn you so much? What about the list above? Xbox is having a bad year??

Xbox fanboys holding on to one gam? Clearly the point went over your head about games and how they are distributed throughout the year. I never called it my GOTY so please, grow up.

How is the year terrible btw? Its got a pretty solid list.

"it's just a terrible year for x1 with no big games. "

Thsts B.S lol. Halo 5 is not a big game?? Forza is not? Fable is not? You may not like ot, of.course you don't because you try your best to hate anything on the machine but others know and like those games. They are BIG titles believe it or not.

Tomb Raider will be delayed why?? Just because you wish it to doesn't mean it will necessarily happen lol.

As much as you guys want to believe the X1 lineup is terrible, you're only fooling yourselves. If you think it is then fine so be it but someone like you, who,imo, loves mediocre stuff like the Order and Knack isn't really in a position to talk about 'terrible' games.

Mr Pumblechook4063d ago

A non-partisan headline would be 'Quantum Break Dealayed until 2016.'

gangsta_red4063d ago

It's funny how people have to assume that MS HAS to bring out a triple A exclusive every single month of the year.

It's as if everyone caught convenient amnesia how console schedules work or how Sony and Nintendo went through long periods too without triple A exclusives released. In fact Driveclub was pushed back from launch and The Order and Bloodborne were delayed to 2016.

@Abzdin
"This is my problem with the xbox fanboys in general, holding tight in one game and glorifying it more than they should."

You have to be kidding right? I guess you never see TLoU being brought up constantly in almost every article.

ziggurcat4063d ago

@septic:

i never see delays as a bad thing, honestly. to me, it just means they're taking that little extra bit of time to make the game as close to perfect as they can get.

frankly, i'd prefer devs be allowed to take as much time as they feel they need rather than release a broken, unfinished product.

the people at remedy are pretty amazing (alan wake was one of my favourites last gen), so i think that the delay will just make the game that much better.

freshslicepizza4063d ago

from the article,
“With so many Xbox One games launching this year, moving Quantum Break to 2016 extends our incredible portfolio into next year with a monster new IP,”

besides screamride and ori (which are not even monster ip's) what congestion for the first half of 2015? i don't get microsoft and how they think sept.-nov. are the only months that matter.

XanderZane4063d ago

They will probably upgrade it to DX12 and enhance the game. Microsoft hasn't announced their full lineup yet. They will at the E3 and if it's as Phil Spencer said, I don't think we'll have to worry about big exclusives or new IP's. I'm hyped for this game and all the new games that will be announced soon.

tuglu_pati4063d ago

@Septic

I don't think it has anything with project mis-management, more like there are too many exclusives coming out in the same time frame and its not a good business "money wise" decision to release them so close of each other.

I trust Remedy will use the extra time to polish the game. Lara croft,Masterchief and the heroes of Albion will hold the fort until Jack Joyce arrives. For now the 2016 titles will most likely be QB, Crackdown3, Gears4, Scalebound and Forza horizon3 for 2016.

AngelicIceDiamond4064d ago

@Chris Yep.

Established Ip's this year: Halo 5 Guardians, Rise Of The Tombraider, Fable Legends and Forza 6

New Ip's or resurrected Ip's of next year: Phantom Dust, Battletoads, Crackdown, FH2, Scalebound, Gears Of War 4, Rares new Ip and now Quantum Break.

Gears and FH2 are really the only 2 established Ip's of next year.

bouzebbal4063d ago

Wow that just dawned on me now...Uncharted 4 and Quantum Break in spring....not a bad spring at all. I could see a spring release.

I'm happy to hear this. Let these studios take their time. This fall will have enough...Battlefront, Forza 6, possibly Rainbow 6 Siege(my personal most wanted), Halo 5, Tomb Raider, Batman and many others. I mean I need to have a life too lol.

I have a really good feeling about QB. I know Alan Wake and Max Payne were great but I have a feeling this could be the studios first really mainstream breakout title that really gets people talking. And the fact that we could be getting it around the same time as a new Uncharted....can't. stand. up.

jb2274064d ago

This just in, in news that everyone saw coming, no matter how hard they tried to believe otherwise….

I'm personally glad that Quantum Break gets the fighting chance it deserves to play to a larger base on release, Holiday 2015 would most likely have seen it lost in the shuffle. Hopefully this time next year the Xbox will have a masterpiece on its hands.

showtimefolks4063d ago

can't wait should be great, alan wake was a good game with room for improvement

Azzanation4063d ago

Its a smart move by MS. QB doesn't need to be out this year and releasing it next year will counter UC4. 2015 already has Rise of the Tomb Raider and Halo 5 which will both sell like hot cakes. As for QBs delay, that's more time increasing the quality that QB already has. I can wait for QB I am in no rush.

xxmagicmanx4064d ago

Delay??? They never announced the release date!

JMaine5184064d ago

They did announce a release year of 2015 which makes this new announcement a delay. http://m.ign.com/articles/2...

Spotie4064d ago

A release year is NOT a release date. It's a tentative window.

frostbite064064d ago (Edited 4064d ago )

The writing was on the wall for this once Halo was given an October release date. Forza is almost guaranteed to be launching in September, which means they were only going to slot either Tomb Raider or Quantum Break in November, with the other getting pushed. This is a business at the end of the day. It doesn't make sense launching a bunch of first party games/exclusives at the same time, even if they are all completed.

Mr Pumblechook4063d ago

@spotie. 'A release year is NOT a release date. It's a tentative window.'

If Microsoft said the game was coming out in 2015 (which they did) and now they say the game is coming out in 2016 it means the game has been delayed. This doesn't mean Microsoft are evil, most people are in favour of delays to improve a game, but it DOES mean the game has been delayed.

Seafort4064d ago

If none of them get delayed as well.

This goes for any game on any platform they all have a chance to be delayed so I wouldn't hold my hopes for any of those games mentioned till nearer the time.

christocolus4064d ago

It will definitely get better

@d_g

They are taking the time to polish the game even more.they've said over and over again that QB is the biggest and most ambitious game they've ever made and the game looks it, also Remedy isn't as big as other AA studios, they've always been that way.
Alan Wake went through similar delays but i don't
expect this to be anything like that though. It would be great to start next year with a new ip like QB
and according to Sam lake the delay is to make Quantum Break as awesome as possible. : )

Letthewookiewin4064d ago

None of it makes sense. But its happening.

Ps5conehead792d ago

That’s up to Microsoft they want return on there investment. From buying up those publishers. That’s what there in business for. And they made a mistake putting day one exclusive on game pass. So now Microsoft wants to profit any way they can.its called buisness . Just like Sony putting games on pc a year are two after ps5 launch.
So if they can make money off PlayStation and Nintendo. They will do that. And I bet soon real soon they will release some aaa exclusives .and I bet one day it will be same day release

Some of these seem to be exclusive for lack of enthusiasm of the publisher rather than because of deals. A lot of cool indies skip ps for some reason like katana zero, el paso, elsewhere and gunbrela

S2Killinit793d ago

Even more indies skip xbox. We know that right?

Friendlygamer793d ago

Quality over quantity, Microsoft got some really interesting and curated niche games on their machines, maybe in part because of gamepass

S2Killinit792d ago

Quality and MS are not things you bring up in same sentence.

shinoff2183792d ago (Edited 792d ago )

Alot of indies skip xbox to. It goes round and round. Personally I think your off base on that but no need to have the argument.

Friendlygamer792d ago

Between katana zero, valheim, Battletech, el passo... I don't feel off base. maybe ps got a million of light novel games that will never release on Xbox but like I've said, I'm talking about niche games highlights, the 10%.

  Heck, it's probably thanks to Microsoft that the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games came to console ps included, meanwhile Sony backwards compatibility continues to be extremely anemic.

And I'm sure most ps5 users are happy to ignore these games and just play wathever new 3rd person action game is trending but it's cool that Microsoft gives some love to smaller audiences and software preservation

shinoff2183792d ago

Again your off base just to be snide. All it's showing though is your ignorance.

One light novels wtf is that even. Ps has plenty of pretty damn good indies.

Speaking of indies and ms being responsible. You know F.I.S.T. of course you do alot of you guys just support gamepass. Well here's a history of Sony being responsible for helping indies. Look up the China project from Sony.

Lastly lol your ignorance showing again. Sony has plenty of games. Personally third person is better then first anyway but that's besides the point. Sony gets so many games that xbox doesn't get because yall don't support the games. Jrpgs being a great example. I personally am not into every Sony first party game. Alot of us aren't. On the other side you don't get to eat often so you gobble up everything. Me personally God of War not my cup, etc. For me I'm into jrpgs and ms just can't touch Sony on those. Again because the Xbox base doesn't support it. Devs dont wanna waste their time or money. Hit me up when falcom develops a game over there.

Speaking of third person narrative games. Aren't yall drooling over hellblade 2. The first one was Sony exclusive at one point. Another not my cup game. Showing we don't have to fall in line and agree we love everything Sony puts out. The facts are they sell though unlike elsewhere(not nintendo)

StormSnooper792d ago

You are same person as GamerRN, yes?

Abnor_Mal793d ago

They really think PlayStation fans would want to play Redfall? Pfft.

Personally nothing on that list would be any game I’d want to play.

TwoPicklesGood792d ago

I’d absolutely love Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Quantum Break on ps5 as I’m sure tons of others would too. There’s nothing wrong with wanting games from another console and its sad that people try to act like they aren’t interested in them.

shinoff2183792d ago

While indont agree with the games. I agree with the point. Your not wrong.

DarXyde792d ago

Sunset Overdrive makes very good sense. Palworld might.

Don't know about the others. Hellblade II does make sense given the original launched on PS4 first. Quantum Break was a massive letdown for me. I absolutely hated the whole TV show thing and I don't think anyone should have to relive that on modern hardware.

Totally agree with that especially when Quantum Break has several references to Alan Wake and Alan Wake make allusions to QB.
I do believe that MS and Remedy can work things out and MS has usually been nice to devs and publishers regarding IP.

They can't "reclaim" what was never theirs.

Petebloodyonion808d ago

I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP.

MS is not doin anything with it. Plus they're doing a multiverse of their own so Remedy needs the IP.

If MS wants to have exclusive let it be timed for 6 months then go to other platforms. MS seems to be, let's say, generous with some if their games as of late.

Or have QB2 be multiplat from the jump, put it on GP. Keeping QB2 as an exclusive is kinda weird these days.

Good luck

"MS is not doin anything with it."

Japan Studio is dead nd Sony isn´t doing anything with Bloodborne either! Yet I can 100% guarantee that there´s a far bigger demand for a sequel, remake or even a remaster for that game from both PS5 and PC gamers.

That been said, why don´t you ask Sony tol sell the IP to Fromsoftware now that according to rumors, they bought Elden Ring from Bandai?

Reclaim? That would mean that they actually owned the ip at one point, which they never did (MS always has). Apples & oranges. Remedy always owned the Control ip (just not the publishing), as they have with Alan Wake.

About as likely as them getting the Max Payne rights from Rockstar.

Sending you game to a publisher does not mean they get "rights to own it " unless that was part of the contract (monetary/ strategic reasons). 505 was the publisher they worked with to publish and distribute it, it dos not mean that 505 flat out "owned" anything, clearly they did have a special arrangement that made them open to limit their publishing rights. and so here we are and big whoop

Yeah get Quantum Break PS5, only if you put it on disc with all the associated movie material.

I mean they got the Alan Wake IP back from MS, so I feel like they could get QB back as well
