This made me wonder. You know how in the music business more and more artists are not announcing release dates but just dropping their project(s) out of no where?

What if the gaming industry did that? What exactly IS the point of a release date? Why not just release your game one day, 12AM - and make a press release letting everyone know; with hard copies being in stores the NEXT day.

Not talking about completely dropping unknown projects - but maybe announcing it, then releasing it at random.

uth114119d ago

I would love to see much short times between announcement and release, but you do need some time to build hype to generate sales.

The music industry is different, because it's old way of doing things has completely imploded. Fewer people listen to radio, Forget MTV. It's much harder for artists to get heard. So the "oh guess what? I'm releasing an album today" tactic is a way of generating headlines and attention. If too many artists do it, it will quickly lose its impact

What if i don't have $60 that day?

Blaze9294119d ago

@Z501, then get it when you do o_O?

@uth11 yeah, valid points.

Should be called Delay Cars not Project Cars the release dates have been a total joke and the game looks nothing like what has been promised,as of now my hopes on this game are heading for the crusher.

NatureOfLogic_4119d ago

The gaming community is getting very annoying lately. If they want to take their time to deliver their best possible work, I say let them. There's plenty to play until PC releases. Let the developers take their time and deliver a great game.

DoomeDx4119d ago

Gamers have a point here. They constantly delay there game while players are keeping their hopes up for a release date.

Gamers are not getting annoyings, developers are.

GTA V PC anyone?

uth114119d ago

I won't argue that most complaints aren't annoying, But in this case.. everytime a developer announces a release date and misses it, they lose some credibility. SMS has done it at least 5 times, maybe more.

delay from 2012 to 2013
delayed to fall 2014,
delayed to March 17 2015
delayed to April 2 2015
delayed to unspecified date

The 3rd one just pushed me away forever.

GamingExplained101276d ago

The third one was the best racing game in years. You can make it as realistic or arcade as you like, with tons of options to meet the performance points for each race. The graphics were great on PS5, running at 60 FPS 1440p on quality mode, it was certainly good enough. It was a lot like the Forza games, just more flexible in its sim and arcade options to cater the game to how you wanted to play, it's absolutely criminal how this game was trashed by losers who didn't get it and wanted to hate on it.

After the last installment I’d say most hardcore fans left. It’s just not that good anymore so I can’t really blame EA this time.

masterfox1316d ago

because it was always a project and it never got finished :D

ChubbyBlade1315d ago

Every game is a project. Your joke doesn’t make sense

InUrFoxHole1314d ago

It makes perfect sense. It's obviously a play on the title. Jesus christ you must be a blast at parties.

ApocalypseShadow1316d ago (Edited 1316d ago )

Ask Bullfrog or Black Box or Tiburon or Studio 33 or Criterion or any of the previously acquired developers who made racing games as competition, or as developers of EA games, then eventually dissolved into oblivion or reassigned. Just ask them. They'll tell you why.

ApocalypseShadow1315d ago

Oh. I forgot. Even Code Masters were absorbed into Criterion. Another racing developer EA took over.

Every racing developer either absorbed by EA or eventually destroyed by them. They either kill competition or have them in the end make Need 4 Speed for them.

MadLad1315d ago

EA only cancels projects for one reason.
They didn't see enough money in it.

Kombatologist1315d ago (Edited 1315d ago )

Not when it's because it didn't meet some crazy margin. It's like if something doesn't make EA a billion dollars on day one (I'm exaggerating that figure of course), they swiftly put it out to pasture.

SurgicalMenace1315d ago (Edited 1315d ago )

Much like if you're spending money on what's a bad investment for your desired goals, you'd do away with it, if you're wise. We should try to get away from thinking we know more about business than individuals that have been doing it for decades. Perhaps you could benefit from going into business instead of wasting all of your talents in comment sections. It's clear that you're the missing piece that EA's been looking for.

MadLad1314d ago

I've made a good amount of money betting on underdog investments over the years.

EA sets unrealistic expectations of their more niche developers, yet continue to fund absolute blunders like DICE and the Battlefield series year after year.

dumahim1315d ago

EA butted in and messed with the formula and act shocked when it doesn't work out.

If it's just going to be another sim-cade that doesn't do either one correctly then no thanks.

Project CARS 2 was a step in the right direction but the physics still aren't where they should have been, so what did they do for PC3? Go completely arcade. That killed the franchise.
