Face-Off: DmC Devil May Cry Definitive Edition

Eurogamer:
We've already established that the PlayStation 4 version of DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition offers a palpable upgrade over both Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, with 60fps gameplay moving Ninja Theory's last-gen reboot more closely into line with Capcom Japan's origin titles. In addition to the faster, smoother gameplay, native 1080p visuals also deliver the welcome boost in sharpness expected from a title running on a current-gen console.

However, despite the undeniable upgrades, we also came away a just little disappointed that the PS4 version doesn't quite manage to deliver the solid 60fps gameplay easily achievable on the PC - something we expected from the level of hardware on offer inside Sony's console. So the question is, can the Xbox One version iron out the kinks found in the PS4 game and hand in the 'definitive' experience we are looking for from a current-gen remaster? Or will its less capable GPU hand in a less stable experience?

i do not agree with that fps analysis...
the fps drops were damn near identical, i dunno how they came to that particular conclusion.
about the AF, i dunno why devs choose to omit it the ps4 version
it was missing in dying light too which was added later via a patch, so it cant possibly be lack of appropriate hardware..

it is truly bizarre when something like the order has some the best AF out there but a cross gen port has texture filtering worse than the last gen versions.
maybe on the ps4 sdk its not as simple as pushing an ON button and the devs simply ignore it?
since its neither taxing/complex nor hardware restricted, ill just have to assume that some devs are being lazy.

it probably has something to do with the old engine being port to the PS4, like you said other games on PS4 have AF plus its not taxing at all.

MadLad4069d ago

AF can, at least with certain engines, be taxing.
I remember gaining almost 10fps when dropping it from x16 to x8 with Tomb Raider.

Other cases though, yes, it literally has no affect on performance.

UltraNova4068d ago (Edited 4068d ago )

Its obvious they used the original PC built to port to the new consoles since they are now x86 based which is weird since it doesn't answer why the lack of AF on the ps4 side...especially since we can see even more advance AF applications in other games like the order.

It was patched in to Dying Light

Never knew that

Dudebro904069d ago

First I've heard of this. Can't find a link to support it.

vishmarx4069d ago (Edited 4069d ago )

its not directly mentioned in patch notes, just says improvements
but im not the only one on the internet who's noticed it.ive seen posts on gfaqs and reddit saying the same too.
the af thing is definitely a bug thats being overlooked

Vishmarx thats not true here is what Digital Foundry said

"Texture filtering is another key point in delivering excellent image quality and it is here that The Order: 1886 stumbles. Despite the realistic depiction of materials, surfaces are sometimes tarnished by noticeable blurring at oblique angles. Secondary objects, such as wooden tables or push carts, showcase these artefacts quite noticeably and detract from game's sense of realism"

Texture filtering is AF.

It has happening so much answers are needed there is even a huge thread about it on Neogaf

AF is a graphical asset there is a reason you get ranges from 4x to 16x.

I applaud DF for contacting sources to find out whats causing it.

gamerfan1284067d ago

It is an API issue. Dying Light patch 1.05 fixed AF on PS4 with no framerate loss.

SonofGod4069d ago (Edited 4069d ago )

You should probably watch the video again because you're completely wrong.

"it is truly bizarre when something like the order has some the best AF out there"

LOL The Order barely even has AF. The graphics on The Order looks amazing, but it does suffer from lack of AF and blurriness, even DF said this. So stop spreading fanboy nonsense.

I'll Probably be getting this one on XBO.

akaFullMetal4069d ago

Weird with AF, is this the third game from capcom that has weird AF issues on ps4? Other games run AF just fine on the ps4, I wonder if there is a bug in the SDK.

if its any game then alot of the times ps4 wins hands down but it seems ps4 tends to do crap on ports

Master-H4069d ago

So who's to blame here, the PS4 or the devs doing the crap ports for it.

DmC: Devil May Cry - So Good They Named it Twice

DmC: Devil May Cry launched 10 years ago to critical acclaim, but caused a significant stir amongst fans of the series.

SDuck1198d ago

all in all, it was the 2nd most replayed by me (first being dmc5)

Godmars2901197d ago

Named it twice cause they lacked imagination.

ApocalypseShadow1197d ago

No matter how many times they try to push this game, I'll never play it.

But the PR keeps pushing it and pushing it when other DMC games are better and sold better.

TheLigX1197d ago

Lol that’s absurd. You must be a real charmer.

Sgt_Slaughter1197d ago (Edited 1197d ago )

Ah we're at that point in time where failed games end up being needlessly defended and pushed as "underrated" or "gems"

There's a reason this caused Capcom to go back to the traditional DMC franchise.

DMC V became the top selling game in the series by a longshot. Even the team was more eager to make a new DMC game rather than try and continue the DmC reboot/spin-off and listened to fan input for V.

CBaoth1197d ago (Edited 1197d ago )

cue the puff pieces for Ninja Theory. Like what we saw happen with Deathloop and Tokyo, the MS marketing team is starting the hype machine early. So we see the revisionist history with their past games. Suddenly it's the best in the series lol. They've never made a bad game, they've just never made a successful one. Now, right or wrong because of the timing, their new game has the extra pressure of being the face of GP in 2022 alongside Starfield and Redfall. A lot of pressure for a studio that made its last game with 30 people. Let's hope 4th time's the charm

Looking Back to 2015 and DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition

Daniel writes: "DmC on Xbox One may have disappointed many, but it also provided an entry point to a previously impenetrable series for newcomers."

It sold poorly it’s why we have DMC5 instead of DmC 2 and from what I’ve been seeing of that Anarchy Reigns clone from Team Ninja I think it was for the better.
