These people are ignorant. The reason you were required to press the PS button was simply to turn the controller back on after a "REBOOT". You can't agree to the terms of service if you can't select Agree lol. Also back in the day when plug-in was required was simply because it was running in a "safe mode" type setting aka BlueTooth was deactivated during firmware updates. People read way to much into things these days.

Hopefully Sony will be able to stay one step ahead.

you are also forgetting that the xbox 360 is hacked, you can play backups in the system with simple firmware modification ;)

It's probably just a chip that allows bluetooth devices to interact within the Firmware update application. Doubt they would be able to exploit it, it would have to be on the motherboard of the system itself.

Homebrew is the biggest excuse for piracy. Just look at those with hacked psps. Not even one person i know with a hacked psp owns at least one original game. All downloaded iso. Thank god that ps3 is hack-proof

That the PlayStation 3 has a unified online system this time around with a password / email log in. This just means everything you do will be tracked it's called authentication servers / programs that is basically an electronic police officer. It isn't like the PC (Personal Computer) where it's freedom land when no one governs the online but the games developers make online. Things has changed now and partly why most people get away with the PlayStation Portable (PSP) because it's virtually freedom land, no unified online system. This makes it a whole lot harder to track down hackers from manipulating their hardware.

All I'm saying is once you hack your console just say goodbye to any online feature. With the XBOX 360 there is no password / email log in so it's easier to hack than the PlayStation 3 and not get caught. It would suck if somone got a digital distributed game because you have to log in to play, lol. This is one major factor why I prefer the Sony PlayStation 3 over any console hacker free.

The mentioned chip is an industry standard eeprom to store data. It can also be found on a huge number of TV's dvd players and just about any device that needs some stuff stored.

do we need to hack the ps3? its perfect as-is!!!! thats why we have the psp, i mean yeah it would be cool to play Mario/Sonic in HD, but c'mon, its funnier on the psp...also if you talk about backing up games, blu-ray discs arent cheap, so yeah, its really no point of doing that, plus just liek firmware 2.80 m33, there were a lot of bricked psp, and there is no pandora for the ps3 right now..i swear people want too much just play the f*cking game you f*cking idiots!!!!

Hacking and modding is one of the reasons the Ps2 was so popular and through a mod chip in and a harddrive in the 1st gen ps2 and you could rent and copy the game to the hard drive eventualy it will happen they said that blueray movies were going to be copy proof but i know alot of people who copy and bootleg bluerays all ready

"I must admit, being a south American resident (Argentina to be specific) That sometimes prohibitive prices in U$S or Euros (1 Dollar consting me 3 argentinean pesos and one euro going for about 5 pesos) lead me to make ilegal downloads. I do try to buy what I like most out of what I get to play/listen/use, because I think there is a nice added value in having an original game in it´s box, or a music cd/dvd with a nicely designed packaging... but the rest of the things, I remain a pirate user.

I do believe this is true for the vast majority in this somehow tech-wise left aside corner of the globe (360 and PS3 not officially released in argentina, our only chance is to import everything at prohibitive costs)... hell the reason I wont buy a PS3 is that games go for about 80 to 100 dollars here... now should there be a chip released soon I would totally reconsider it (sad but true...)... In the views of such panorama, the internet is a blessing here, and I quite think it also is on many other places arround the globe. The move for developers/artists is not in trying to avoid this issue, because there will ALWAYS be a way to jump over this legal fences, and piracy will remain one of the lead spreading mechanism for any kind of media. The key is using this free publicity and offering a low cost download option (like VALVE with steam) and the Boxed more costy option (adding REAL value to the pack... maybe extra maps/ graphical printed media / art )...

Oh... and not forgetting about south american markets would be great!!! Software companies should realize that countries that have a more expensive dollar can´t be expected to pay 3 times what their product costs (in their local currency, that is). They should develop some kind of mechanism (as with dvd regions) to ensure specific releases for other non dollar driven markets at more accessible prices for those markets. They would really see a boost in their sales after some time. And I state after some time because the piracy runs almost 90% of the gaming market at least here in argentina (and I believe in most part of south america and probably other developing countries) and it will take time to get people used to pay 50-100 pesos (a reasonble price, not the 300 you must pay for an original console game import) rather than the 5-10 pesos a copy costs.

I would really like to see the main companies show a little mre interest in these regions :)

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
