Can they get a DLC lobotomy while they are at it?

Volkama4115d ago

Sitting on the other side with 3 AMD cards, gameworks is the worst thing about PC gaming.

I'd admit I'd probably love the features if I had nvidia hardware though.

LordDhampire4115d ago

I go back and forth between nvidia cards and AMD cards, and Gameworks is not one of the factors i can tell you that.

It doesn't really have any feature that stands out, from Physx to txaa. It just has things other engines can do just as well with other engines. Like ambient occlusion or aa is really going to make a game.

Physx was the only real thing what could of grown into something but it is pretty much obsolete other than a borderlands and few games here and there.

I will surprised if including gameworks doesn't just bring down performance on AMD cards, and just put random crashes and unnecessary bugs on all system.

I don't agree at all. HBAO+ has dramatically improved the look of every game I've seen it used in. It looks a lot better than standard SSAO to me. TXAA is the best anti-aliasing method available now that it isn't possible to force super sampling in DirectX11 games. TXAA cleans up the image to a remarkable degree and it is a godsend in many games that would otherwise have pretty terrible image quality. The minor blur doesn't bother me and can be sharpened up with a bit of downsampling anyway.

PhysX, when used properly, can really add a lot to a game. I love PhysX in games like Mirror's Edge, Alice Madness Returns, Borderlands 2 and the Batman Arkham games.

actuslly the worst thing in pc gaming is amds lazyness.

They are slow to do anything.

They need more core for the same performance as competitors.

And they number two in e erything they do.

Also they fuel the consoles that will hold back pc in the first place.

Slower, hotter, 2nd place amd.

Gameworks has been going hard lately.

Project cars, the witcher 3, borderlands, killing floor 2, farcry, dying light, probably batman again, assassin's creed 3, monster hunter online + more.

It's business and things like vxgi may make nvidia stand out.

Amd should be trying to compete.

All they do is cry and do things less effient.

They are the reason intel is hardly trying anymore.

Not saying nvidia is perfect but they are clearly better.

Now I don't have to buy a 1440p monitor thanks to nvidia DSR.

I hope they come up with something like ice enhancer I can apply to all games!

They just make pc gaming feel like it should!.
Meanwhile amd is spending years trying to perfect hair..

Tress effx 3.0 at gdc!

Deus ex while be shown! :)

Say nvidia and amd both use openCl.
Nvidia will give similar of same performance with less cores.

I think dx12 performed better on nvidia acording to anandtech.

Amd could atleast use open cl and team of devs to create a package of features and give it away to devs! But they won't.

The gameworks package is made by a team of 200 nerds.

AMD's hardware is fine. They put 4k gaming within my budget (the only thing better is 3 or 4 sli titans). I'm very happy with my hardware, but it hurts a bit when there is a gameworks feature I can't use.

I like things like soft body physics, and it isn't as though nvidia are the only ones offering such tech but whenever it's there I have to settle for less than perfect. If AMD did compete with nVidia in the same way it might help drive games forward, but it'd make the split in PC gaming worse as everyone would have to settle for 2nd best.

I also don't think you can really blame AMD for their part in the consoles. I'm sure they would have been happy to sell MS and Sony better parts if MS and Sony had paid for better parts...

I'm not a manufacturor fanboy though. If an upgrade to nvidia makes sense in the future then I'll do that. Right now it'd be a very expensive sidegrade at best.

Edit: DSR is nowhere near as good as a native 1440p or 4k monitor either, just to chip in on that side topic :)

Didn’t bother with the first one.

TheColbertinator312d ago

All I wanted was Left 4 Dead 3 instead

Abnor_Mal312d ago

Was this game ahead of its time? A few years later games like Dead By Daylight, Friday the 13th and other asymmetrical games exploded onto the scene.

MeteorPanda312d ago

if lm not mistaken it started the asymmetrical pvp matches. Evolves logo was a nod to their concept.

The_Blue312d ago

They should have because I played the first one when it was already dead

‘Evolve: Stage 2’ is back from the dead as peer-to-peer servers come back online

From NME: "Evolve: Stage 2 had its multiplayer servers shut down back in 2018, but today players are once again able to matchmake and join peer-to-peer multiplayer games.

Several months ago, peer-to-peer functionality was lost for Evolve Legacy, which was the only way fans of the series could play with friends. Upon a multitude of players reaching out to publisher 2K, the issue was eventually fixed earlier in July. It seems 2K have gone a step further now, and reinstated peer-to-peer and matchmaking functionality for Evolve: Stage 2 after four years."

^^this, I have so many awesome skins on Xbox that I’d rather not lose

Germaximus1402d ago

Yes so far because it's just the servers alone coming on and the console version never had the free-to-play update.

I imagine if they find people playing the PC version and enough players are enjoying it then they'd probably reconsider opening console as well but I wouldn't count on it.

The game was epic as a monster. Hunters were really boring to play as to me.

LordoftheCritics1402d ago

I used to play this a bit.

Was kinda fun.
