Capcom decided it was a good idea to cut a lot of content from DMC 4, which is why you see the backtracking in the game. The combat is still top notch, and it's certainly much more pleasant to listen to than F bombs and other immature insults.

The combat was cool and all. But even the combat wouldn't let me stomach the insane amount backtracking and recyled bosses, the story (or lack their of). And your damn right Thanatos I will not understand its cool "because you can teleport".

And I guess that's what I was getting to...everyday I see people come down on games for much less than recycled gameplay and bad writing. But to see DMC4 put on such a pedestal simply blows my mind. The DMC3 hype I understand, though I'm personally a huge fan of the original and all its cheesiness.

I said the same thing back when DmC was first revealed. DMC4 is only good for the gameplay (and the graphics were nice for the time).

The story was horrible, Nero was a wasted character and pointless IMO, and it was literally back tracking and playing the same boss fights over, and I got disagreed to death.

DmC has the best set-up for any of the DMC games, as far as world goes. How the demons hide in the world, how they control the world, getting pulled into Limbo to fight. Having Dante and Virgil Nephalem (half angel / half demon) instead of nephilim (half human / half demon), with it giving a new understanding of why the demons hated Sparta and his family so much, and also offering new gameplay options and bringing in a new potential race/species/beings to fight angels. The problem with DmC was the engine at the time (DmC just didn't look as good as DMC4 to me), and the combat (DmC was Heavenly Sword 2, not DMC).

If they take the world and lore of DmC and Capcom builds the game on their engine with upgraded gameplay from DMC4, then I think they have an amazing DMC5 on their hands (the odd games are the good ones anyway, but as of today 3 is the only great one, because 1 didn't age well).

The final change would be just to let people choose to play as the new or old Dante from the beginning, with their own personalities in tact so there's no room to complain about anything. It can't be that difficult recording dialog for both characters (Virgil's too), and swapping character models during cutscenes.

I think the reason these 2 games are coming out again is to see which one sells best so they can go in that direction, but the best thing to do is simply meet in the middle taking elements from both games.

DmC: Story, World, Lore
DMC: Gameplay, Graphics, Dante (although add a skin for new Dante)

But I agree DMC4 is not the holy grail of DMC at all, gameplay and graphics (at the time), and Dante were the only saving graces of that game, because story was bad, Nero was boring and far more emo than new Dante, the game recycled everything, and I'm sick of DMC taking place in cathedrals and old gothic run down church towns.

And as far as are these remasters worth it, as long as they're less than $40 and even then I'm not buying it new, I'll wait until they're $20 or less since I've played and beat both games.

It's all because they decided to be lazy when they made the choice to go multiplatform. Nero was created because they figured most ppl playing the game on XBox would be new to the series and would need a new character so that they wouldn't feel obligated to have played the past 3 games to understand the story.
