War Thunder Dev: Project Morpheus 'the same incredible VR-experience as on PC'

VRFocus - Only a handful of videogame and virtual reality (VR) fans will have been able to get their hands on Sony Computer Entertainment's (SCE) Project Morpheus head-mounted display (HMD) for the PlayStation 4 in 2014. Since being revealed in March, the device has only made a few appearances to the public, including Gamescom in Germany and Tokyo Game Show in Japan. You might be wondering just how the HMD stacks up to the Oculus Rift HMD on PC, then. According to War Thunder developer Gaijin Entertainment, it's the same 'incredible' experience.

I highly doubt it. It's hardware and software makes the parity impossible.

Sure,you are a developer??

It's gonna be nice having something I can just plug in and play.

And then when I can be bothered with modding games and installing drivers I can hit up the oculus for improved graphics.

@sin7279: Let's check with real developers for a second.

PS4/XBox One games like Alien: Isolation and Far Cry 4 are running at 30fps; on PC, they can run at 60fps or better. (I'm running a GF 560 Ti from more than two years ago, and I'm getting 60fps solid with Alien: Isolation.)

To do real 3D, you need to get 30fps minimum to both eyes, which means 60fps total. That's *minimum*. Ideally you want 60fps to both eyes, so that's 120fps.

If Morpheus is putting 1080p to both eyes, that means 120fps. If you can't compromise on framerate, then you gotta sacrifice graphics. Sub-HD resolution, lower-res textures, lower-poly models.

All that said, I'm sure Morpheus can provide some excellent 3D experiences. Console exclusives can be wonderful, and I'm sure that something developed specifically for the PS4 and Morpheus can be awesome. But cross-platform stuff will always look better on the Rift, so far as I can see, given anything like recent PC hardware.

[Edit: typo fixed.]

Great to hear! Can't wait for this thing!

Me too! I wish it came out yesterday!

Wow, that's incredible. To be honest I thought that Sony's Project Morpheus was going to be a failure since VR requires a LOT of power. Waiting forward to seeing how they are able to do it

I'm guessing the PS4 will use some sort of secondary chip to help render VR. From what I read it seems the PS4 is built for VR on a hardware level.

War Thunder is pretty cool with VR, but after a while you realise its still the same boring repetitive game.

But its free so why not try it
