Ubisoft has not had a good year when it comes to game launches, and yet it seems to continually make the same mistake.

Well, Far Cry 4 seems to be holding it's own. However as many have already pointed out - it's not a yearly franchise, and it is not a new IP. These two factors mean that it was not rushed to market, and it had a previous test bed of game mechanics which could be improved upon and developed further.

It's clear that Ubisoft's mistake is rushing games to market, and therefore not optimising games for their respective platforms. Their parity B$ is a thin veil of an excuse to avoid the added time needed to properly optimise their games per platform. The fact that their PC games run the worst is testament to this. The PC versions of all games should really be the definitive version.

However, as long as gamers keep pre-ordering games I don't see these industry practices changing anytime soon. First we allowed day-1 patches, then we allowed them to charge us for on-disc-DLC, then they charge us for half the game, and we have to buy the second half of the game as a "season-pass". Soon they'll be charging us for multiplayer separately.

The point is, gamers know how to troll each other, but are woefully inadequate when it comes to sending a collective message to developers and publishers.

Really well said. +Bubbles.

I really can't argue with you here but I can say this: I bought Fallout 3 on PS3, buggy mess that it was, and it remains one of my favorite video games of all time despite getting stuck - literally stuck in rocks - multiple times and losing my progress.

Bugs, glitches, lack of optimization...these are real problems that seem to affect peoples' experiences with games. But they've never been a problem for me. I wouldn't condone this practice of "releasing an unfinished product"...but it also doesn't impede my ability to enjoy video games. Perhaps I am the exception.

The PC performance of Unity is right in line with multiplat games from other studios relative to the console versions. My GTX 770 runs the game at a higher resolution, with better settings and a solid 30fps, while the PS4 version has regular drops into the 20s and even teens.

It's just a demanding game all around. Ubisoft shouldn't have been so demanding on consoles and should have scaled things back until they got a solid 30fps. But other than that the PC version is not a crappy port. It runs well and looks astoundingly good.

End pre-ordering. Let them sweat.

The next scandal in the video game tabloids.

Meanwhile, in my corner of the Earth...I still have fun with video games and don't bother bitching about my favorite past time. But I guess that's just me.

meganick4205d ago

If people don't voice their concerns about the issues mentioned in this article, then these problems will persist and get worse. If gaming is really your favorite past-time, then you should be more concerned about games being released unfinished with bugs, glitches, and huge frame-rate dips.

And yet I grew up WITHOUT all of this whining and complaining and yet...here we are. On the road that the past has paved.

I can't sit here and act like I know these workers financial situations. And I'm sure nobody wakes up WANTING to go to court. But for the sake of the industry, I wish some of these types of cases made it to trial.

Settlements allow companies to continue to do whatever abusive practices they do. While the trials (should the company lose) would actually force real changes for the better.

But again, I'm not in these workers shoes and I can understand them not wanting to risk it.
