Alien: Isolation and The Evil Within, from Sega and Bethesda respectively, both hit shelves within the last few weeks and deliver on the holiday-appropriate scares in decidedly different ways. One will have you clutching the controller in fear, jumping at sounds, while the other will have you mashing at buttons with your eyes closed. Both definitely deliver on the goosebumps and the frights, but which one is actually scarier?

My favorite Aliens game also, having the three campaigns to play was great. Scaling walls as an alien waiting to ambush anyone that came too close.

Aliens Fireteam Elite was my GotY in 2021, single player was kinda bad but playing that game 3 player with friends was so good and really challenging on higher difficulties

While Capcom is still working on its Resident Evil series, I look back at the now-dead survival horror series from Bethesda, wondering why the series was left wide open, and yet still not revisited.
An OK horror series left behind. It had some great ideas, but it never knew how to play to its strengths. Instead, it came out like just another RE4 clone.
I would love for a third entry to come out, but it needs to learn to lean in on the psychological aspect and move away from the generic "pew pew" ideology at the center of the gameplay loop. It doesn't need to abandon it; it just needs to put it into better context, is all.
Also, try a first-person perspective instead. Too many 3rd-person games with nothing to offer but an avatar taking precious screen space. At least make it an actual option and not that janky-ass mess the second game pretended to have.

I played through most of the PS4 version of the game but stopped because another game came out. I bought it last year for PC with the intention of using the VR mod but haven't gotten around to setting it up. I am glad I waited.
Great game, even better in VR. A little drawn out by the end, but I hope we see CA do something a little different with the sequel.
Sweet. I also rebought this game on Steam for the purpose of VR. I'll have to give it another shot w full immersive controls. I had only tried it out briefly before.
It's funny this was never officially released at retail as a VR game, bc it feels so perfect for it!
I prefer to fight the horrors attempting to get me in games.... So Evil Within would be my choice.
Alien isolation was scarier but the evil within was more fun , so neither.
For a TRUE survival horror experience, Alien Isolation blows Evil Within out of the water.
The enemies in Evil Within you can run from but in Alien Isolation if you try to run your asking for mr stalker Alien to find and kill you, because the Alien A.I. is smart as hell and even so much faster than you are and this makes the already panic and fear inducing atmospheric tension that much more unbearable.
