Fringe benefits

As development budgets for blockbuster games soar, major game publishers and developers will become increasingly reluctant to experiment with unproven or risky concepts.

As in Hollywood, much of the innovation will occur on the fringes of the industry, largely from emerging and independent talent that has more to gain than lose.

Thankfully, the game industry has not reached that dire stage yet, but there are often gems released that do not get the recognition they deserve and disappear all too quickly from store shelves.
