“Gamers Hate Change.” – Power, Generalisation and Electronic Arts

Callum of Paranerds writes: "Yet another person high up has opened his mouth and said something extremely stupid. The last time we properly covered this sort of thing was when Dan Didio declared superheroes did not deserve to be happy. Now we have the head of a major publishing giant stating that a large chunk of the gaming community in general is opposed to all change and progression. Not only that but they are openly holding it back from having the gaming industry as a whole entering a golden age."

Super Heroes don't deserve to be happy? Oh Come on...

XiSasukeUchiha4344d ago (Edited 4344d ago )

So does Ninjas apparently now that is just sad.

Off topic: I wonder how Team taka is sometimes *retrospection*.

Mikelarry4344d ago (Edited 4344d ago )

No gamers hate the nickle and diming approach the industry seems to have adopted over last gen. everything now is a paid DLC or season pass. big established publishers even though with the millions they make would rather rehash old franchises rather than invest in new ips. I understand the recessions took a toll on the industry but this approach will not last long and will soon come crashing down.

xxBiG_BoSSxx4344d ago

They don't invest in new ips because they don't sell. Not as well as established franchises. Its a sad but true fact. Every year the biggest sellers are madden, call of duty, assassins creed, wwe, battlefield etc.

I've never bought a call of duty game. I stopped buying assaassins creed. I love football and only buy madden once every five years. But that's me, and I know people like me are not the gaming majority.

Companies like EA deserve the hate they get, but Moore is essentially right when he says gamers hate change.

ShaunCameron4343d ago (Edited 4343d ago )

That's because old franchises especially ones that the mass market care about sell. Most new IP's flop, and this "phenomenon" didn't just start in the 7th generation.

GarrusVakarian4344d ago (Edited 4344d ago )

No, we just hate your change.

Yet another example of these big companies putting all the blame on us when their plans don't go as smooth as they would like (MS did it with the X1 reveal, too). It's all OUR fault, WE aren't ready, WE don't like change. Nothing is ever wrong with THEIR plans and policies, no no, it's always us.

GTFO of here, EA.

MightyNoX4344d ago

Well said. Phil Spencer and the rest of the clown car actively blamed Gamers pre, during and post X1 reveal (Used games be bad, it's your fault, Kinect is da future, you just don't like change) - It's why I consistently say EA and Microsoft are cut from the same cloth.

Mikelarry4344d ago

I believe if the MS approach (DRM, 24 hour check in) was adopted EA would have been on the front lines patting themselves on the back about pioneering the games industry to a " golden age" but see how quickly they let Ms take all the blame and vitrol once the backlash took off

Gazondaily4344d ago

Omg give it a rest Nox. You act as if Phil Spencer stole your girlfriend.

" Phil Spencer and the rest of the clown car actively blamed Gamers pre, during and post X1 reveal "

Show me where Phil Spencer did that (I know you are notorious for making outrageous claims, even personal ones against me, and not having the decency to back them up, so please surprise me this time).

pompombrum4344d ago (Edited 4344d ago )

^^^Don't recall Phil Spencer specifically blaming gamers but the general view I got from the Microsoft camp last year was that they actually thought there was nothing wrong with what they were doing and we were the ones that were wrong. A great example would be that Microsoft exec who played the innocent victim card and claimed us gamers never game them a chance.

Fortunately it's 2014 and Microsoft are bloated on humble pie and actually seem to be seeing sense at long last.

iDadio4344d ago

Maybe that's why they are spying on us, to check if we are ready :o

Godmars2904344d ago

No. They hate *underutilized* power, *simplified* change to reach a *broader audience* and EA because they've come to exemplify both, as well as a compromise of quality for the sake of profit.

I wish I can blame the spoon for being fat and get paid top dollar for it.......

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

isarai_lee98d ago

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

lodossrage132d ago (Edited 132d ago )

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

thorstein132d ago

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

TheColbertinator132d ago

Different elections. Different scum. Same results.

rlow1132d ago

i know its a long shot, but i hope this gets shot down.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
