'google+ required'

We need a 3rd console to rule them all. Not sure Google is the one to do it, but they do have a lot of money. I would hope if they are going the console route, that it wouldn't be some of these tablet and phone app devices. I can't understand the interest in these. At the very least a successful 3rd entry would at least shut up some of the fanboys.

Perhaps some of these new contenders are sensing the vacuum being created due to the Wii U floundering... Amazon and possibly google?

Now Apple needs a game console too, so we can finally play iOS and Android games on TV, don't know who the fuck wants to do this but hey there surely are some people out there waiting for it...

I want another console contender but I want them to do an SNK Neo Geo and make it ridiculously more powerful than everything else available. Yes I know it would be expensive but I'm sure there's enough hardcore gamers that would buy.

How much more powerful was the Neo Geo compared to the SNES and the Megadrive anyone like to have a guess.

I've been beating the drum for this product and the gaming capable Apple TV for the past two years.

there's already so many consoles coming out with the x1 and ps4 obviously. then there's multiple steam consoles at varying prices and performance. I hope this isn't a competing game console, because there's enough as it is.

I don't think is a home console. It could be something to compete with Amazon fire tv.

Why not, they make everything else

Google certainly has the money and developers to make a good console and extremely flexible and optimized OS. If they can get some good game development teams together then this could be a good product.

if they make a console with really powerful hardware then it could be great

I like what the big three to be honest. This is good for those who are into the Google OS, but I don't think that makes up a lot of core gamers. The experience seems pretty different if you ask me.

this might work if they didnt try to push their own OS or software on it which would require devs to port their games to it and be more trouble than its worth.

Honestly, who does this benefit? There are plenty of Android game consoles (and most are failures...) on the market. The Ouya, Game Stick, Amazon's console (not out), and various Android tablets with their accessories. Maybe Google will think of an extra feature, but nonetheless it will be an Android console.

i will never buy a home console to play lousy android mobile/tablet games. i have a tablet & a phone that can play these mini games,even calling them mini is an insult to the psp's own mini games. super mini maybe ?

It baffles me as to how large corporations STILL want to make Android game consoles, even after EVERY SINGLE ONE has flopped horribly.

People play mobile games because they are a captive audience -- they "choose" to play mobile because it's the ONLY THING AVAILABLE at the time. Mobile-based devices are designed to run on TINY BATTERIES, and will NEVER dominate the livingroom. It is unbelievable how many non-gamers still don't understand this. Playing mobile games is like BEING IN GAMING JAIL, where you, and all the other kids forced to play in that playroom, have the same cruddy toys to play with until you get out and get to a real console/PC. Yeah, they are there. That's all they have going for them!

Isn't the Tegra 4 the *first* mobile GPU that actually trumps the X360's GPU (barely)? And it came out what.. 8 years afterwards? And it is 28nm, rather than the 90nm that the Xenos debuted at? 1/10th the scale!

(warning) Technical reasoning ahead:

By the numbers, mobile GPUs won't match the XB1 or PS4 until mobile tech is shipping at 10nm... which is gonna be a long time, given that even with finFET transitors, the electron leakage is so bad at that scale that battery-powered GPUs, at that performance level, are basically out of the question.

On top of that, 14nm fabrication is costing fab companies like TSMC billions of dollars in investment (each 14nm fab machine reportedly costs over $500M USD, and each factory has a fair number of them -- that's like 5-10x the cost of a fab machine at 28nm).

Which means, for us (the consumer), that it'll be a LONG while at 14nm before we switch to 10nm. The companies have to recover their investment -- we're talking decades here. That upgrade will only happen, at first, for high-end devices that also cost a fortune (high-end GPUs may cost $2-5K at this scale), to pay for a slow rollout.

End result: Mobile GPU that competes with even mid-grade PC GPUs? No. Not feasible from either a raw financial or common-use-case (battery) standpoint. It's not some dude on the internet saying "no" -- its the known laws of physics and economics!

Android game consoles -- No. Biggest joke ever. These devices simply cannot compete. They cannot be built cheaply, AND be better than a decent phone at the same time (unlike actual consoles). Android console gaming is the pipe dream of the tech-dumb businessman, and nothing more.

Sighs..just another Android console to fail. I'm not sure there will ever be another Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo...

Diversity is good for the Industry, but to much really isn't. With all these consoles coming in like the Steam Machines and possibly this Google console, which may make Apple come in as well, I could understand how a crash might occur again.

I know what most who see this will think, I'm just some doomsayer, however one of the many things that caused the 83 crash was the amount of consoles being released. There were a lot of failed consoles that made people lose faith in supporting any of them. and with the failure of the Ouya (kinda) I fear somewhat for this beloved industry

The biggest question for a standalone Android Console is: WHY??? I already have 3 different Android devices, a S4, a 7" no-brand phonepad & a media box, which all can play games. I don't see a stand alone Android console to play those same games the 4th time.

Most likely another set top box that's closer to the VITA TV and Fire TV.

Would be great if it's 4k resolution.
