3GEM Retro Review: Comix Zone

Alex St-Amour from 3GEM writes: 'If you’re in the mood to tackle Comix Zone today, you’re in luck! The game has been re-released on each of the last-gen consoles’ (Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360) downloadable services as well as on Valve’s Steam service. You should definitely check it out, if not to challenge yourself, then to simply to experience a game that was ahead of its time and gave gamers who were just cutting their teeth on consoles something unique and innovative to chew on.

The Best 15 Underrated Sega Genesis Games

The SNES’s success in the console war (it sold like 20 million more systems, that’s a win) meant that many games on the Sega Genesis never got as much positive attention as they should have. Whether they were not well-known or received a poor rating in light of the existence of competing SNES games at the time, some really good games slipped through the cracks.

Aerobiz was definitely my favorite sim game in that generation

Longie_long1572d ago

Yessss! Aerobiz is a ton of fun.

Comix Zone is criminally underrated. It's definitely on my top 10 list of Genesis games. Landstalker was pretty cool as well along with Beyond Oasis. It felt like Sega's take on LOZ. Made me enjoy the game even more. That and the art style.

Longie_long1572d ago

I love Comix Zone but I'm terrible at it. It's so hard!

ZeekQuattro1572d ago

So many games were hard back then. I beat it once or twice.

Comix Zone is amazing and it sucks we never got a sequel or more of it.

lifeisgamesok2296d ago

Comix Zone, Streets of Rage 2 and Golden Axe were some of my favorites on the Genesis

P_Bomb2296d ago

Loved me some Golden Axe. They got the better version of Strider too.

lifeisgamesok2296d ago

@P_Bomb Golden Axe was so underrated. I regret not playing Strider back in the day

Knightofelemia2296d ago

Ristar should be thrown on that list

isarai2296d ago

Beyond Oasis, really wish Sega would revive that ip

"Top 10 Sega Genesis games that get no love!!"

Proceeds to name 3 games that are included in almost every Genesis collection/compilation.

CosmicTurtle2296d ago

It says Top three (now). But it is an underwhelming list regardless of quantitative quibbles.

Tross2296d ago

True. The real underrated classics would not have made it onto those collections and I'm sure there are many. That Taz game I rented once comes to mind.

lifeisgamesok2296d ago

I wonder if anyone besides me ever played the platformer Boogerman

Rebel_Scum2296d ago

Nah man you're the only one out how 7.53 billion people. Buy a lotto ticket.

lifeisgamesok2296d ago

I meant anyone on the forum but thanks lol

WELL DAMN!

Really smart and tech conscious move though. I mean everyone is downloading these for free anyway on mediocre emulars on their phone anyway, so do this and you give a much easier and more refined way to do so that not only allows them to browse/discover games they never played but will certainly earn Sega some good publicity to the masses

Mobile...urgh

Why not give console players a bigger, better Sega Ultimate Genesis Collection

lellkay3268d ago

This whole thing would have been so much better on console....guess they are just pursuing the mobile market as its big in Japan.

godashram3268d ago

hmm... I get a "cannot be installed on your device's country" error when attempting to install....So not available in the US yet?

optimus3268d ago

I read another article that said it starts on Thurs. And today is wed. (In the u.s.) so check back tomorrow.

godashram3268d ago

Started working about an hour ago (Still wednesday here) and Sonic just went free too.. you just have to manually search for it since the link on the Sega Forever site is broken (Sega delisted the $2.99 version and relisted it as free)
