Steam changes family sharing rule, Now requires a two-factor authorization process

In order to share your library of steam games, You must now authorize both the machines and accounts you want to share games with.
Previously, you just needed to authorize another computer that would allow it to access your steam library. Now, a friend or family you wish to share with needs an authorized computer but also a specific, authorized Steam account. You may authorize up to 10 computers and 10 accounts that share your library at any given time.

Sounds alot like an all digital version of Microsoft's "vision". Microsoft's folly was extending it to physical media.

come_bom4527d ago (Edited 4527d ago )

Microsoft does it! ...oooohhh.... so bad.

Steam does it! Damm, what a great idea.

Brucis4527d ago

MS's version didn't allow you to play games at the same time because your friend was using your account. Steam's allows up to 10 people to play your games at once.

LAWSON724527d ago (Edited 4527d ago )

Yeah this is MS idea and then some. The difference with this and Xbone is people dont like change and the competition was making sure consumers realized that, while on PC Steam is king and people are used to digital and how it works.
We are not having things taken away to get this to work, unlike the Xbone.

Kurylo3d4527d ago

Wow.. never expected anyone to do something like that. I would think it would hurt the bottom line, but then again... steam is just awesome.

maniacmayhem4527d ago

This is pretty much what MS was going to do. Unfortunately the console community isn't willing to accept so drastic a change as the DRM MS was trying to implement on the consumers. Even I hated it only because I love Gamefly and would never want to see that go.

Spinal4526d ago (Edited 4526d ago )

No. MS was trying to stop people from trading unwanted games. Thats taking options away from you. also forcing consumers to be online 24/7. Not everyone connects their consoles to online.

With Steam all games are digital thus not tradeable anyway so they're not taking anything away from customers just giving us further options like letting friends play our library.

maniacmayhem4526d ago

No. MS was also going to go the family/friends share route so it would have been the same options Steam would have offered now.

Steam also makes you check in to play offline and not everyone connects their PC's online...I'm just kidding about the last part but seriously, Steam is also a form of DRM no matter how you try and defend or justify it.

Condemning MS and praising Steam is hypocritical.
